Fill your toiletries bottles and see how long they last you before you actually leave for your vacation this gives a good indication of how much you actually use. A belt bag is invaluable for travel on trains and the Underground. I would suggest a lightweight umbrella for any holiday in Europe particularly the UK. A backpack for me is a must as it distributes weight evenly and allows you to be hands-free. Thanks for the great vlog xc

One of my favorite tips is to take a belt bag/Fanny pack; I swing it around to the back so it doesn’t look like another bag when I board. I keep my phone, ID, my mini wallet, ticket (if I’m not going paperless), my AirPods, a mask, and some lipgloss. It keeps everything I need handy- not loose floating in the giant space of my tote or backpack, and keeps it right next to me should anything happen with my bags. Joy Susan makes some wonderful ones-all different colors, the perfect size, and they convert to a crossbody or a wristlet, as well!

Finally! Someone who emphasizes those rules. Seems all the American girls blissfully ignore them when they make these videos. I shudder to think of all the people who ran into problems following their advice. Hard shell all the way! I ended up in a place in Paris with bedbugs! I’d never be able to clean a soft suitcase. Also, in tropical locations it protects your stuff from the humidity and mold. Going to Europe in fall and winter, bring silk long underwear. It layers smoothly without showing and is surprisingly warm. You can wash it in the sink and it dries so quickly. It keeps your clothing protected from body odour so that you don’t have to clean it so often. Yes, I pack only carryon for three months even in cold weather. Silk panties. You only need two or three cause they wash and dry so quickly. No denim. Too heavy. It’s hot in summer, cold in winter and takes forever to dry if you get wet. People really don’t like the souvenir junk you are tempted to bring home, so don’t worry about it.
@KRodCollective3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for watching! 💕 Yes, hardshell is great! I use more hardshell because of my own history with bedbugs. Whew! They are rough and I wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy. Ah yes, that's a great point! Hardshell luggage can protect against humidity and mold. Love the silk underwear tips! So good! Do you get your silk underwear from anywhere specific?

I agree skip the souvenirs. If I feel I should I do two things. Buy a big bottle of whiskey at duty free, something only available in Europe or wherever I am and bring it to my next party to share with friends and family making sure to remind them where I brought it from. Or Light a candle at a chapel or cathedral (if you’re in Europe you inevitably end up at one) and dedicate it to all your friends and family. Then let them know you didn’t bring them a souvenir but you did light them a candle. They will be touched.

My biggest tip is…bring clothing you can rewear BUT bring enough clean undies for the whole trip. They take up very little room and you don’t have to find a laundromat or wash clothing. Even better, bring inexpensive fruit of the looms or something that you can just toss as you go. Also - find out if the place you are staying has blowdryers. If they do that’s one less thing you have to bring, if you use that.

Longest carry-on only trip was 28 days. Spain, Morocco and UK in the winter. Multiple climates so layers and access to doing laundry a couple of times was the key. Pack for best case, not just in case. Light weight and fast drying clothes option for when you just have to wash out some things in the hotel sink. Like you said, you can purchase when you get there, if it's absolutely necessary. I'd swap out an easy to pack hat (for sunny or cold weather depending) rather than the extra pjs. My biggest struggle is with limiting the items I want to take to make that long-haul flight bearable.

I like to plan to leave with carry-on only, but include a light, foldable full-sized bag so that I can check a bag on the way back if I have to. Another option is to ship things home from the local post office. Just be aware, though, shipping things from Italy, you may beat your items home by a few weeks!

Great video! I am seasoned traveler but I love watching these types of videos for packing tips. You can always learn a lot from others. While I tend to pack a carry on, most of the time I rather check it in and only carry a back pack Throughout the main flight. The main reason I rather bring a small carry on is for those intra European train rides or budget airlines but even with the latter I rather pay the extra fee to check it in. Yeah sometimes that extra time waiting for the bag sucks but I rather do that than to be running with a bag through the airport.

That's interesting with all the Carry On vlogs. I think in America you have a much larger carry-on size than we do in the UK we are usually only allowed 10 kg. Love the thought of only travelling with a small suitcase but to bring everything you need and want to is far less of a headache than trying to cram a week's worth of your stuff into a tiny carry on suitcase. The only time that I do this and make sure that the suitcase is less than 8 kg is when I am travelling to London with my little dog on the train and on the underground. X

@@KRodCollective This will be my 7th trip to Istanbul. I've been there in the Spring, Summer, and early Fall (September). September is usually in the '70s-'80s but by December it will be down in the '50s. You really do need to go to Turkey. I have been to Italy, France, and Tunisia but since I first visited Turkey, I don't have any desire to visit any other country. I love it that much. I love everything about this country from the food, the historic sites to the people. Since I continue to visit Istanbul, I am learning to speak Turkish even though a lot of Turks speak English. But the Turks love it when you attempt to speak their language. Not only am I learning Turkish in case I get in a situation where no one speaks English, but I am also doing it as a sign of respect. @@phxminnie I've never been to Turkey but heard good things. What deters me is the regime and what they do to people who oppose Erdogan. Certain Turks that live abroad have reason to be nervous every time they visit family. This is why I haven't considered visiting. Politics are important to me when choosing a travel destination where I don't have family. E.g. I would never visit the Maldives and many other countries where they are anti-lgbt. But if you have fallen for a country or city, you just have to go. I have that with Czech Republic, ever since I went in 1994 and lived there in 1995 it is my second country. I am regularly shocked by the blatant discrimination of black people. I often had discussions with other white people Czech and non-Czech about this. It has changed over the years.

Love the video! Im planning on packing a capsule wardrobe but I may have to do some shopping 😅 one thing about the travel adapters is that some are only adapters and don’t convert the power usage. Make sure you don’t plug something in that will fry your electronics or the outlet. The voltage in Germany (where I travel to) is 230 and here in the US it’s 120. It’s an absolute must for me to bring a bigger converter so I don’t burn up my phone or hair straightener or mess up the house I’m staying in. ✈️😍

I’m a black woman and going to travel with a carryon. I need lotion, What’s the best way to pack enough lotion for my two week trip to Europe?
@KRodCollective3 жыл бұрын
Hey! Thank you for watching! I’m a black woman too, so I totally get that! If you need a lot of lotion, there are a couple of options. You could buy lotion there, or pack several travel size containers of your favorite lotion. I personally use Shea butter and oils. So sometimes, I’ll bring a large amount of Shea butter. I’ve never had a problem with carrying it, as it is a solid. I also bring some containers of oil or buy something like coconut oil when I get to my destination. Hope this helps! 💕

I recently got home from London and my suitcase didn’t make it to me until 4 days later. I’ve never travelled with a carry on only, but after this last trip, I’m considering it. Lighter luggage and planning outfits appeals to me, but what do you do about cleaning your clothes?? Depending on the climate I’m traveling to, I could possibly wear a top twice before it needs to be cleaned. How do you manage this so you don’t take an outfit for each day?
@KRodCollective Жыл бұрын
Hi Mary!! I'm sorry you had to go through that. It sucks not having what you need for your trip. For me, it all depends. Sometimes I hand wash my clothes and let them air dry if I have the time. Or sometimes I honestly just have to suck it up. 🤣And other times I might end up buying some clothes there that I want anyway, like a dress or something. I should make a dedicated video on this. 🤔

Watch out for Ryanair, they've made some changes recently 😑 To avoid a lot of liquids, I've switched to solid shampoo/soap bar/cake mascara (want to get bésame but they're sold out rn 😆) One question, in case I'd have a medicine in a tube of a gel consistency, would it go in a liquid bag or will stay in a medicine baggie?
@KRodCollective3 жыл бұрын
Hi Diana! Thanks for watching! Ooohh good to know about Ryanair. I was actually wondering if they had made any recent changes. I have flown with them many times in the past. Yes, solid shampoos are great and I absolutely love bar soap! I'm not sure which bag medicine would go into, that's a good question. My bet would be keep it in the medicine bag as I know medications in larger bottles (bigger than 3.4oz) are allowed, you just have to declare them with the officers at the checkpoint and they have to be screened separately.

If it is a prescription medication it doesn’t have to count as a liquid but can go in a separate clear bag. Also keep in original container with prescription on it. You probably need to put it in the bin container along with liquids bag unless you have pre check. Check this out on TSA. This has always been the case when flying out of USA for us.

These days, if it's part of your fare, you might be better off checking a bag. Unless you are one of the first to board, there are often no spaces left to put your carry on bag, and many people put theirs nowhere near where they are sitting, so they can be first off the plane (selfish plane etiquette!!). Plus, if you are short like me, I can't reach the overhead bins, and it is not OK to ask the stewards - they are not supposed to do it for fear of getting hurt. With so many people with carry ons, your time at baggage claim is much shorter, as there are fewer bags coming down! I do understand some people fear losing luggage, but in my 60 years of flying, I have never had this experience.
@KRodCollective2 жыл бұрын
Such great points, Fiona! Sometimes it pays just to check your bag, especially if it's included in your fare. And I totally agree, people that do all sorts of things just to be the first off the plane drive me crazy! 😂

Thanks for the great, highly informative video!! One question: do you have any tips for packing bras? I was watching for it specifically so I noticed you didn't mention them in the video (maybe you don't wear them, which is fine!). I have a large bust and struggle to fit bras into the "carry only" lifestyle. Have a great day!
@KRodCollective2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jackie! That’s such a good question. No, I definitely wear them. I have a large bust as well. The bras I’ve currently been wearing are foldable and pretty easy to pack. But that’s a really good question. With some of my stiffer cupped bras, I used to roll socks and put them under the cups to help them hold their shape. I wish I had more helpful tips for you. I’ll Lee that in mind and check back if I hear of any other good tips. 💕

When I pack I twist each bra 180 degrees at the front center (between the cups), which then allows me to nest one cup inside the other. I then stack 2 or 3 together (all cups nested together in same direction). I then nestle the stack(s) into the top corners of my carry-on, cup curves facing out. They hold their shape pretty well that way, and are also right on top when you unpack so you can untwist them right away.

Hi Gabriela! Yes, it’s permitted as long as you take them out when you go through security. It def helps that my makeup was in a clear bag, but as long as you take it out at security it shouldn’t be a problem. It helps expedite the security process. But if you have TSA Precheck, then you don’t have to take them out on the US side. 💕Hope that helps!

European airlines are definitely more strict with luggage rules. But it’s not just that either - I’ve always gone over the quart size liquids rule, and usually carry all my toiletries in a larger clear plastic bag. All American Airlines that I’ve flown with have never had any problem with it. When I was flying out of Paris, they made take all of my toiletries out of my bag and place them into smaller quart size plastic bags that they gave me. I really had no problem with this but it’s just good to know for next time while traveling in Europe! Definitely gonna pack much lighter next time!

Hi Ryan! Yes! I find America isn’t as picky when tracking domestically over here. But I’ve had the same happen to me in Europe. Sometimes I would take two of the plastic bags they would have at security so that I was ready for the next time. 😂And it really does help to pack light! Just means less shopping for me in Europe. 😩😂💕
