As a man with a filipino wife and huge filipino extended family, the lumpia gets dipped. You must try Menudo, (different than the Mexican version) adobo and bbq on a stick.
@Aganoize
@Aganoize 2 жыл бұрын
When you head back, I'd suggest the classic Chicken Adobo, it's always a staple for home meals. Apritada is great tomato based soup, Menudo being similar but of slightly different taste. Sinigang is another great dish. If you're feeling especially adventurous and they have it, Dinuguan is a yummy dish. Though most people turn away from it because of the ingredients. Must try dessert: Halo-Halo Other mentionable dishes are Tinola, Kare-Kare (A personal favorite of mine), Kaldereta, and Arroz Caldo.

Filipina here! I was hooked from your Jollibee video (clicked subscribed before I was halfway through that video). Your appreciation of Filipino food brings me so much joy. Thank you for sharing it with the rest of the world. I live in NYC, so If you love sisig, Mama Fina’s is a must! If you love fusion, try Flip Sigi, which is one of my my favorites. There are so many Filipino restaurants in NY that you might get sick of it (just kidding, you won’t) My mom always leaves tons of uncooked Lumpia Shanghai (mini egg rolls) and Turon (egg rolls with sweet plaintains and jackfruit) in my freezer, so if you are ever in the city, come by and we’ll fry some up for ya! Keep eating the Filipino food!!! You rock!

I receive second hand joy in the way you enjoy Filipino food 😊 the sweet and sour sauce goes with the lumpia so you did good on that 😊 the one you thought was scallop is called a "squid ball" .. And the other kinda meat is called "kikiam".. These are common additions to pansit.. And these "meats" also commonly fried and sold as street food here in the Philippines 🇵🇭

You definitely are a Filipino, we eat everything with rice haha. I hope you'll try Crispy Pata which is a deepfried pork knuckle that was definitely crispy outside but juice on the inside, It also goes with a sauce its either a seasoned vinegar or soy sauce. We also have Caldereta which is a stew type of dish that can be cooked using pork or beef as its meat, added with lots of different ingredients like potato, carrots, green peas tomato sauce and liver spread with peanut butter also for others. Excited to see you try Filipino food. I’m sure someone may have suggest this by now, but please try Sinigang. It’s a tamarind based soup that has vegetables and some kind of protein (pork, shrimp, etc). It tastes kinda sour but you’ll get used to it. You also eat it with steamed rice. You tried Lumpiang Shanghai. Those are the little ones usually made of ground pork. The bigger ones you’re thinking of are indeed called lumpia. Those are usually either with veggies only or ground beef. The sweet and sour sauce is for the shanghai. I like to dip them in spiced vinegar.
@Menace_Lee
@Menace_Lee 2 жыл бұрын
Lumpiang Shanghai same size, pero ang Lumpia ay Gulay ang filling and also there's also Vegetables Lumpia or Sagiwa means (Fresh). Lumpiang Shanghai is more on Ground Pork and Lumpia is more on Vegetables. Between the differences, a lot of recipes uses ground pork nor beef sa Lumpia nila with Vegetables on it, are not called Lumpia it's still Lumpiang Shanghai.

You got the idea about the garlic rice & the egg bro, but FYI, Filipinos use garlic rice, egg ( sunny side up usually ) and any type of protein for Breakfast! It is called SILOG ( prononced See-Log ) If you do order a SILOG dish, your choices will be as follows: Longanisa ( Filipino sweet pork sausage ) called LongSilog , next is the Tapa ( Cured Beef Marinated ) called TapSilog, next is the Bangus ( fried milkmish ) called BangSilog, next is the Corn Beef ( sauted corned beef with onions ) called CornSilog.For other filipino cuisine, you should try the KALDERETA ( options of beef, or pork, or chicken Filipino Stew ) it is savory, and has to be eaten with Rice. ) next is ABOBO ( options of pork, or chicken, or squid ) marinated in vinegar, soy sauce, minced garlic, bay leaves, peppercorn, then sauted in a pan. Savory and eaten with rice. ( You are not filipino if you dont eat this dish. ) next is SINIGANG ( pronounced See-knee-gang ) its a Sour Tamarind based Soup ( options of pork. seafood accompanied by okra, spinach, other veggies. Served Hot, and slurped, and the broth can be transfered to the rice for a satisfying spoonful of umami into your mouth. There will be tons of requests like mine, but thse dishes are a MUST EAT to start your journey in Filipino Cusine. Oh get used to using a spoon & fork as you utensils. KAIN NA TAYO! ( pronounced Ka-In Na Tah-Yoh ) it means Let's Eat!

Next time you eat Filipino food from a local restaurant again you should definitely ask if there's lemon or lime that goes along with the pancit. It's just so good. Also! There's a dip every Filipino makes almost every meal that we like so much that it's basically part of our lives and it's soy sauce, lime and birdseye chili that we crush in the sauce (or any chili that makes it hot). It's a dip for almost everything from grilled fish to even fried chicken. It's just beautiful when you have some of it on rice as well.

You're right, the Philippines takes a lot of influence from its trade partners and, let's be honest with the words here, colonizers, and it's very evident in the language and the food especially. Heavy influence from Spaniards (language, religion, some food), Asian countries like China and India (rice, garlic, curries/stews, fish sauce, vinegar, soy sauce), and even the US (English as the official 2nd language, "ketchup" made from bananas rather than tomatoes due to wartime shortages, spam) and there's many more. I think the main reason it hasn't taken off in the West is because the dishes can be VERY different in the different regions/provinces of the Philippines. As an archipelago, much of the native culture would actually be much different from island to island or even just province to province, especially due to the colonization and trade, to the point where even the spoken language can sound MUCH different. When the Philippines declared its independence, the US made sure to train the Philippine military and maintain bases there. Since then, the Philippines has started to modernize, and so by comparison to other countries, it's actually fairly new and the exposure hasn't reached the levels of Chinese, Japanese, Thai, or Vietnamese food yet. Dishes like adobo, lumpia, sisig, and the BBQ have started to become much more popular though. If the Filipino restaurant has kare-kare, I HIGHLY recommend, it's one of my favorites since childhood. Be sure to eat it with the bagoong, which is fermented shrimp paste. The shrimp paste might be off-putting at first due to its very strong smell and taste, but it's absolutely necessary to give this dish the extra umami and saltiness it needs to complete the flavor profile.

The white stuff that you ate on the pancit are called "fish balls" basically they are like fish cake shaped like balls (hence the name 😅) but yeah just found your content at random been watching it ever since (even at work 🤣). And also, just a little trivia, pancit are usually served on special occasions like birthdays.. and the sisig is usually partnered with beer. Keep it up, love your vidoes!! Much love from the PH 🇵🇭! I can recommend that you try, but not a lot of people like it but it's always my go to Filipino dish and it's called "Puchero/Pochero" it's basically a beef stew with assorted vegetables and "saba" bananas (plantains). It's more of a Spanish dish but since us Filipinos were influenced by Spanish culture we have our own variant of the dish. Also to further add, you should also try the "Bulalo". It's basically a Filipino Beef Marrow stew with some pieces of corn, potatoes and cabbages or what we call "pechay".

We actually like to put three of those (specially when my grandma feels a little bit extra 🤣) sometimes with little bits of shrimp as well and she mixes bihon or sometimes sotanghon and bato (i think it's also called canton) soo delish ❤🔥. It all comes down to preference i guess 😊😁✌

Sisig is freakin good as hell and that one you have looked soooo yummy 😋 and hell yes to the garlic fried rice. The way you mixed them together is exactly how a lot of Filipinos eat it lol We Filipinos love strong flavors and salt, not the healthiest per say but delicious nonetheless lol

Filipino Mango is a top notch. Philippines has one of the best mangos in the world if not the best. But I haven't tasted any mangos from other countries that is as good as filipino mangos. No wonder they export millions of tons of mangos yearly.

I was wondering why the sisig had mangoes and tomatoes, then I realized that it was served with a side of ensalada. I've never had that pairing before but it makes so much sense.

You can't go wrong with sisig ❤️ as far as i know it's a dish originated in Pampanga, the different parts of the pig especially the unpopular ones like the cheeks, the ears, and some organs are included in it. Nowadays there are a lot of variations of sisig, i think the one you're trying is lechon kawali based (the one with the garlic rice) it also can be chicken or bangus sisig (milkfish sisig) some even put raw eggs in sisig when it's cooked thru sizzling plates then we let the egg cook together with the sisig. Yum! 🤤😂

probably the white sliced thingy in your pancit is fish balls slices. Filipino cuisine is influenced by many cultures, mainly Malay, Spanish,Chinese, indian , american & Japanese influences. The sweet, salty and sour flavours.
