Its like a rice buffet. Get mixed gravy, a senior server will know the best way to mix it. Ok gravy done so now you choose either chicken, mutton, beef or fish (you can choose more than one), and finally some veges. You can add fried egg and dont forget papadom. Thats how I normally order.

Nasi kandar in mamak restaurants terminology simply means rice with anything.....so you choose the type of chicken or meat, or fish or veges to go with the rice or its combo. Another similar drink is apple juice with asam boi ( preserved plum)

Let me share a bit about the roti’s 1. Roti canai = plain roti 2. Roti boom = roti but bit thicker in texture and sweet 3. Roti telur = roti with egg 4. Roti jantan = roti with 2 eggs 5. Roti naan = oven baked roti, can add cheese,garlic and pair with tandoori 6. Roti tisu : paper thin roti and usually very tall like klcc tower 7. Chapatti : sibling to roti canai but taste bit flour’y 8. Tosai : thin roti , hint of sour taste but nice.. can pair with sardine for fuller dish 9. Roti bakar : toast 10. Roti jala : kinda like pancake, usually yellow in colour, nice to eat with curry 11. Roti poori : thin air puffed roti that would deflate when you pop it

Actually in Malaysia, there’s two types of Roti Canai, one is ‘Mamak Style’, that you have already tried. And another one is ‘Malay Style’ which is made by a malay guy. If you find any Roti Canai that is made by a malay guy somewhere later, you should have a try. I tell you what, it taste different. 👍🏻
@batustone87422 жыл бұрын
That’s true. While both are good, I always find myself preferring the small stall, regular kind of roti canai. I think it’s got something to do with the dough. Small businesses usually make their dough from scratch, but from what I’ve seen, kedai mamak will use some premade dough that comes in big packages. So the taste and texture of roti canai are very similar across all mamaks. I can’t quite articulate the differences between kedai mamak’s roti canai and Malay style roti canai, but if you’ve eaten it for the most part of your life, you know some things aren’t just the same.
