SPAM has a long and honorable history. it has been cited as one of the most helpful items that helped win WW2. There even is a spam museum in Austin, Minnesota, the birthplace of Spam. Maybe the guys could tour it if they make it to the USA. Note though, while Spam is super tasty and full of "energy", it's very high in fat and salt. Still, a praiseworthy comestible for emergencies.

It traveled the world via US military bases, mostly post-WWII. This was a canned meat (more like a can-shaped skinless sausage) that required no refrigeration and could last for years. You could carry it into battle or smuggle it out of the PX. It required no cooking and contained enough salt to season other foods. I consider it one of those nostalgia foods that pre-dated any modern nutrition, shipping, or storage tech.

@@icollectstories5702 I heard a BBC Radio 4 programme years back where they entered a WW2 bunker that had been "lost" (ie buried and forgotten about). There was a cache of cans of Spam and the presenters were talking about how the cans looked pristine, unrusted, not swollen etc. They opened a can and said the Spam looked and smelled perfectly normal. They spent a good minute daring each other to taste it--neither one was willing.

Just like velcro is the name of the brand that makes hook and loop fasteners, spam is the name of a product is processed pork. Just because the brand makes different products does not mean it's spam. It means it's "whatever product" branded spam for improved sales. Claiming the definition of spam is something loose like "precooked canned meat" does not apply since there are tons of products that are not branded spam that fit that definition. In short what they are eating is "Processed turkey, by spam"
