FIRST TIME Trying TAIWANESE Breakfast in TAIPEI Taiwan 🇹🇼

Today is my first time eating Taiwanese breakfast! Upon arrival at Yong He Soy Milk King, one of the most popular spots in Taipei for traditional breakfast, the first thing I noticed was the deep fried bread sticks...golden and crispy, towered up fresh out the fryer, the second I saw them I knew I was getting one.
This restaurant's menu is quite extensive, a ton of different soy milks, rice milks, even peanut milk, plus a huge selection of omelettes wrapped in pancakes, pancakes wrapped in roti, roti wrapped in all 3 alongside radish cakes, poached eggs & more, I found it quite difficult to decide which dishes to try out.
In the end I went for 7 dishes including pork steamed dumplings! Probably the best dumplings I've eaten here in Taiwan, perfect pockets of juicy meat and oozing with the fat's natural gravy in a soft outer dumpling casing, absolutely delicious is an understatement 😋😋😋

這一家位於復興南路.瑞安街口的豆漿店，以前在附近工作時經常去吃。品質水準高於一般的豆漿店 😊 餅.饅頭.油條這類比較乾的食物，都可以浸在豆漿或米漿一起食用。（熱的豆漿或是米漿更適合浸泡或沾食）

You picked the plain steam bun that was like rice or dinner rolls that you normally eat with other ingredients or dishes. The long fried dough can be used as filling to the plain sesame pocket that you ordered like a hotdog to increase the flavor.

I love these breadsticks in Vietnamese noodle soup with heaps of chilli 🌶️🍜🌶️ The thought of dipping into soya milk sounds a little strange haha. Thanks for the advice!

Most Taiwanese would find it strange to dip the fried breadstick or the sesame bread in chili sauce or soy sauce. But it’s actually quite proper to dip a fried breadstick in hot soy milk. I personally like to break the fried breadstick into smaller chunks and drop them into a bowl of hot or warm soy milk. The way the chunks soaked in the soy milk are perfect comfort food , especially in a cold, rainy day. You could also fold the breadstick in half, and place it into the sesame bread, eat both together like a sandwich. The soy milk is the drink that helps you wash down the food.

You ordered too much, buddy. Typical Taiwanese breakfast would include a fried breadstick, a sesame bread, maybe a fried egg on the side, plus a bowl of soy milk. Or maybe an order of 4 small steamed buns/dumplings, i.e., xiaolongbao, plus a bowl (cup) of soy milk or rice peanut milk. That’s it! If you haven’t noticed, there’s a lot of carbs and quite a selection of oily dishes. I would avoid the fried food and go for the steamed or baked dishes. Some locals would order soy milk without sugar, which is healthier.

Love your videos. Definitely dunk the fried dough and plain bun in soy milk next time (it is called the soy milk king after all, haha). Also, I personally prefer using the thicker soy sauces for the daikon cake and the egg pancake.

If you want the dumplings to have soup, you can add pork skin jelly to the filling, or add water and stir to let the ground meat absorb the water

I think those pastries are rarely eaten plain. The sesame pastry in particular has a seam baked on its side that's meant to be opened and filled with other ingredients. Typically you would get egg, ham, sweet soysauce, or chili sauce inbetween. I could never eat it plain, haha!

I think they're a little on the dryer side because they might not use real butter, as it's costly, usually parties which as croissants can be eaten alone. But from everyone's comments I think they need to be dunked in soya milk 😋🇹🇼😋🙏🇹🇼😋

Try ordering some sweet or salty Dofu Nao(Mandarin)/ Dao Hueh(Hokkien) (soft beancurd in a bowl) you can use it to dip some of the dry pastries or the dough stick/ You Tiao (mandarin). Might help with the taste.

You are very adventurous when it comes to food. But normally we will put the dough stick inside the pastry bread and or put a scrambled egg to make it not so dry. We never eat the pastry bread alone...😅

You should dip the bread stick in either soy sauce or coffee before eating it. The Bao looks like Xiaoxing long Bao. They have juice inside. Overall, you ordered a bit too much starch. You need a more balanced diet.😊

Just to let you know, you were supposed to take care of your own tray when you're done with your food, because right behind you is where customers should stack their trays. You will get a pass for being a foreigner, but next time you can look around and try to follow the rules and do what the locals do. When i went to taiwan they were very accomodating but I was always embarrassed when I made mistakes too.
