I recommend trying pancit palabok. Pancit palabok is made from rice noodle with some pork, egg, and shrimps, and chicharon (dont worry the seafood taste is not strong, i would say i barely taste the seafood taste in it). U can find it either have thin or thick noodles it depends on the restaurant, some sell both versions.

Hi guys, good to hear you enjoyed our foods. You know why most of our foods have strong flavors like being salty or oily because they are supposed to be eaten with rice. The rice will give the balance of all the flavors. Every bite should come with a rice. That’s the Filipino way of eating it.

the PINAKBET that you tried must have used anchovies (bagoong balayan) for its flavor. sometimes some regions use shrimp paste. others use broth cubes and cook it w sliced pork belly. how they cook it really depends on where you are. a tip when you make your dipping sauce: try soy sauce + kalamansi + oyster sauce + chili. you can use that for your fried dishes, steamed fish and grilled dishes.

Most Filipino dishes are meant to be eaten with rice, especially ones with sauces (ie. stews, soups). They are packed with flavor and rice is the equalizer. Mixing the stews (ie. like the vegetable stew, pinakbet) with rice helps alleviate the intense flavor of the dish.

Actually in the Philippines some food have different variation on each Region which make it unique everytime you go on different places. Like for Adobo, some region have coconut milk on it, some doesnt have soysauce, and also some have turmeric on it that make it yellowish. One more thing, for some places, they have their own dish, maybe fruit, or snacks that they are known for. Like for example Cebu, they are known for the Best Lechon. Pampanga where Sisig is originated and said to be the best sisig in philippines. Quezon province, where you can find their own noodle dish called Habhab. Davao, where you can find a lot of Durians, maybe you can find different durian deserts/dishes there too, Baguio City where strawberries grows because of cold weather and having different food which they use strawberries, and also their special Ube Jam, Laguna where you can buy the amazing Buko Pie (Coconut Pie). And too much to mention.

I'm a Filipino and I love shrimp paste, but never in a lifetime would I ever have suggested to eat pinakbet. I don't even like that myself. When it comes to delicious Filipino foods, that is certainly not what comes to mind. But these ones below do. 1. 'Kare kare' (ox tail). A stew cooked in peanut sauce eaten with boiled rice. 2. 'Sinigang' (pork or fish). Sour tamarind stew eaten with boiled rice. 3. 'Sisig' (pork face). Usually eaten with garlic rice or just beer. 4. 'Chicken Inasal' (chicken). Grilled chicken eaten with garlic rice and chicken oil. 5. 'Bulalo' (beef). Soup cooked with beef bone marrow eaten with boiled rice. Of course there's a lot more, but I don't wanna overload you guys with suggestions.

Depending on what region/province you go to, each has its own version of pinakbet, adobo, sinigang, etc. In Ilocos (northern Luzon), we use fermented fish (which has a milder flavor) instead of fermented shrimp in pinakbet. Some versions of pinakbet use oyster sauce. If you go to Bicol (southern Luzon), they usually add coconut milk and chillies (pinakbet + Bicol express). Keep exploring and enjoy!

@@ChaseandShelbs But if it's from Bicol area, brace yourself because they are fond of SPICY foods so batting average, the pinakbet would surely be Spicy. There's a common joke that if there's an incoming typhoon, they FIRST put support to protect their chili plants than their houses. Their version of LAING (Taro leaves with coconut milk) is sure to be spicy. The Bicol region is fond of spicy and with coconut milk type of dishes.

Pinakbet is meant to be eaten with the rice so it will neutralize the strong flavor of the shrimp paste or the "alamang". Give it another try. 😉

TRIVIA: Please note that due to the heat in the PH people tend to sweat a lot, and consuming salty food is needed to replenish what was lost.
@ChaseandShelbs2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! We sweat a lot too and are eating all the salty foods and consuming a lot of water. Usually people think not that much salt it needed but I’m glad you know that it’s necessary and important!! 🤗
@g2buyit2 жыл бұрын
@@ChaseandShelbs You have to have a perfect (in pinoy meal) bite... since some food is salty try having it with some rice, the rice will minimize the saltiness! Drinking a lot of water due to the saltiness of the food is good for you, it becomes easy to consume the daily required amount of water intake...

you should observe that most of the restaurants in the Philippines serve food good for one family. which is 3 to 5 persons per serving. unlike in the west food are being served individually. why? it's our culture to share our food together with the family.
@ChaseandShelbs2 жыл бұрын
We love that about this culture! We love sharing and trying all the things. Some of the noodle dishes and soups are huge and look like they are meant for others lol! It’s awesome.
@solo88272 жыл бұрын
and by the way, it's ok not to like some of the food in one's culture. i myself don't want some pinakbet recipe. i only eat pinakbet if my mom cooks it. because i know it will not be that salty if it is a home cooked pinakbet.

@@solo8827 So true!! Asian food culture is revolved around FAMILY and FRIENDS. ❤️💕 We don’t understand why Westerners eat on individual plate. 🤣
@solo88272 жыл бұрын
@@jomontanee there is nothing wrong with it also. actually I don't want also to share my plate. only the food. it's two different thing. haha.

Don't worry guys you're not the only ones that's not a fan of Pinakbet,i also find the shrimp paste flavor a bit overpowering sometimes. Take care guys. See you on the next one. ❤️🙏

We were totally thrown off and didn’t expect it to taste like that at all!! It looks so pretty haha 👏🏼😂

The flavor of the ampalaya veggie which is mixed in the pinakbet was bitter. A pinakbet without it is what I prefer lol

@@ChaseandShelbs Actually, in the northern part of Luzon where pinakbet originated, they use "sauce" from salted fish. I wonder how you would react to that haha..
@JAYMATIK Жыл бұрын
@harrypatter6998 Just like most of the Filipino food, Pinakbet is made in different ways. Pinakbet is my favorite. The one my mom makes does not use shrimp paste, but with fermented fish. Big difference in taste!

Crispy pata (pigs trotter) for me a beer food. Lumpiang shanghai is the ultimate Filipino finger food.

Finally, a food that you dislike! Pinakbet is my favorite food but not that pinakbet. That is pinakbet tagalog. I was surprised you ordered that. It is an Ilocano dish but then it was adopted by other regions so there are a lot variations of pinakbet now. That is not something I recommend to tourists because of the bagoong (shrimp paste). It takes getting used to it to like it. Can't wait for your next adventure there in Cebu.
@ChaseandShelbs2 жыл бұрын
We also didn’t like our last dish in our Filipino China town video! The sate noodles 🤣 we didn’t know it had shrimp paste, I think it would be good without it. We might have to try again haha! More cebu adventures to come soon! ❤️

ask the resto staff/vendor how to eat or do the sauce.. in any food you dont know how to eat so would maximize the taste 😊

Yes we should try :) it’s half the fun experimenting hehe but afterwards we should ask so we can also try it that way too! We appreciate the tips 🥰

I love the honesty, I appreciate that. I dislike fake flattery that some people give in order to win the favor of others even when it clearly show on their faces that what they're saying isn't actually what they really think. That honestly irritates me. So it's okay that you didn't love everything, at least you were polite about it.
@ChaseandShelbs2 жыл бұрын
We totally agree! And thank you! 🙏🏼 That would suck if someone went to eat somewhere we recommended and they didn’t like the dish. We always make sure to be honest with our reviews regardless of if we like it or not! 👏🏼 not everything has to be a win it’s just about experiencing the food and going with the flow 🤗
