Two things: 1. Your reaction (sitting in “holy fuck” silence after the movie ends for like 5 minutes) is why this movie is held in such a high esteem among young moviegoers like myself circa 2009-2015. It really meant a lot to us to see such a relatable, honest, and realistic depiction of the “I don’t know what I want us to be” semi-Friendzone onscreen because it’s so specific but so universal. Every dude who has dated has been through a version of this. The movie is like pure cinematic empathy. 2. It is indeed directed incredibly well, and that’s why Marc Webb was hired to direct THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN the next year or so. That was the first one of those “let’s hire a cute personal indie director with integrity for a big franchise, and it might turn out with great characters!” TASM isn’t good, but the Peter and Gwen stuff/all the interpersonal relationships are. Now you see why. Sad that Hollywood has gobbled up Marc Webb now and occupies his time with garbage like this upcoming SNOW WHITE remake. This movie got me so excited about him back in the day

What’s really sad is how Tumblr decided to pretend that Tom was the bad guy and that somehow became the narrative. Just completely misses the point of the film.

@@RoyKoopalingThe amazing Spider-Man is a great romantic comedy between Garfield and Emma Stone, which sadly doesn't work as superhero movie. Funny the thing I like is his Peter Parker is much like Tom, he means well but can't help being a selfish jerk.

So I know I am SUPER LATE, but you are right about leaving after the “we are just friends” line. Summer set her boundaries, she can be a friends with benefits type situation but she couldn’t be a girlfriend, that’s her issue, but Tom should have been honest with himself what that meant for him. Tom is not the guy that can do the friends with benefits, these things can happen. In real life, not a lot of ppl can be honest with themselves let alone someone they care about. The break up is what made them learn from those issues. Tom learned that he can’t wait for his ONE to live the life he wants, and summer learned that she can find the one, it just wasn’t Tom❤

I would love you to watch this again with commentary. You'll get so much more with every pass. 1. Notice how bland Summer's character was? The story is the unreliable narrator trope. It tells it from Tom's skewed perspective. 2. Tom was not in love with Summer. He loved the way she made him feel when she made him feel good and he hated the way she made him feel when she made him feel bad. He didn't love her essence. 3. Tom was self centered. He didn't get cues when Summer was in tears or even seem to care what she was feeling or saying. Not to diss on his character. I love Tom. He's flawed and had to learn a hard lesson. 4. A vital development in the middle of the movie was after the bar fight and Tom lays it all out how he feels. Summer could have let him go but she came to him and wanted to give it another try and open up. She seemed to consider being in a relationship with Tom. 5. There was a character arc with Summer, she became a romantic. 6. Last of all, notice the colors. Summer wore blue and Tom wore neutral fall colors. Autumn also wore Tom's brown color palette. That gave me hope in their future relationship. I'm sure there is more that I missed but it is such a beautiful film on so many levels.

I'd love to see your reactions to Hereditary (2018) and Midsommar (2019), two movies from the Ari Aster - hands down the best psychological thriller films of the modern era, very Kubricky

I really like your reactions, and this will seem like such a weird thing to say, but it’s honestly meant constructively. Fix your lighting! The dimness gives a sort of depressing quality to your video, haha. Seriously, when you’re looking to invest in your channel next, invest in getting good lighting!
