I love Batman Begins from it's tone, Gotham City, and how it dives right into the origins of The Batman something we haven't seen in a live action movie until now. We of course had Batman 89 but it wasn't really an origins story, People went in knowing the history and past of Batman. Mask of the Phantasm (1993) though an amazing Animated film is the earliest film that depicts the origins of Batman and is regarded to this day as one of the best Batman films and for many is the best Batman film. It's a spin off from the Batman: Animated Series starring the late Kevin Conroy as the voice of Bruce Wayne and Batman. He's regarded as the definitive Batman voicing the character throughout the Animated Series and the DCAU (DC Animated Universe) a connected universe similar to the MCU but made up of Animated shows. From Superman: Animated Series to Batman Beyond, Static Shock, Justice League, and Justice League Unlimited we saw this Batman throughout his solo days as a hero in Gotham to forming the Bat Family. We saw him team up with other hero's leading to the formation of the Justice League which expanded over the course of two Justice League shows. And finally we saw him as an old man in Batman Beyond mentoring a new Batman in a Neo Gotham City of the future. Mask of the Phantasm is apart of this shared continuity but you can do into it as a solo film with zero insight on the Animated Series. Overall Batman Begins is the best in the trilogy for me. I love Dark Knight but it kind of loses alot of the tone and it's depiction of Gotham City is more in line with a basic America City so it sacrifices alot of the personality of the world of Batman for the sack of being grounded. Something Nolan imagined with this series that Gotham could be any city so it's an required taste you like it or you don't and I personally prefer Batman Begins from a visual and tone standpoint.

Fear is the main theme of the movie, in fact the original title was Batman: Intimidation Game. That tells me that they had Scarecrow planned very early on, and Cillian Murphy nails it. Amazing film, got me interested in all other Nolan works.

Regarding the whole "Not an executioner but blew up their home" thing, I always saw it as 1) Depriving them of their resources, 2) Forcing them to evacuate or die. Still arguably manslaughter (as is him not saving Ras from the train), but yeah, he didn't directly kill them

The only Batman movie to explain his journey to becoming the Dark Knight, with characters straight from the comics (Scarecrow, Ras Al Gul, Luciuos Fox, Falcone, etc.) And Bruce was only 8 on that terrible night his parents were killed, by the way. I also think Micheal Caine was the coolest Alfred of all the Batman productions--Loved your reactions!

I never made the connection before: Bruce Wayne brings the blue flower up the mountain, which the League of Shadows and Scarecrow use to make the fear gas - AND Bruce Banner, in the Incredible Hulk movie, uses a blue flower to try and cure his hulkosis. I guess blue flowers have special properties for people named Bruce.

The best part of this is nearly nothing in CGI. There are a few shots looking down from the train where the cars are digital, but everything from Bruce and Ra's hanging off the mountain, the exploding train rail, the entire Narrows part of the city, and the Tumbler were all practical. They built an entire mini city to shoot the narrows scenes. Built three batmobiles to do the driving and jumping work. And actually dangled Christian Bale and Liam Neeson off of a mountain to get these shots. Nolan always shoots practically unless absolutely impossible to, and it makes these movies stand out that much more in the face of dozens of superhero movies the past 2 decades.

Operatic type theaters often required guests leaving early, between acts, to use a side door, so those in the lobby or buying tickets for a later showing did not see them leaving and think the show was bad enough to drive people away. The question is why there is absolutely no security of any kind for an obviously-wealthy family exiting, just a large bouncer in a bad suit would keep the more timid crooks at bay. I guess the proprietor decided he had already gotten their money.

Great Reaction...... I always thought when you consider the DC Universe..... That Gotham was Chicago, and Metropolis was New York........ The character of Bruce Wayne (any identiy of a superhero) is intentionally made to be something other/opposite than their Hero Character, so to disguise/throw off any thoughts that they may be the same person....... Bruce being a A-hole sending everyone home from his Birthday party was a undercover way of keeping them safe from what the League of Shadows was planning....... I Enjoy this Movie, Cause it is one of the Few that actually shows Bruce Training to learn the skills he needs as Batman..... This was written as a 3 part Trilogy, I hope you react the the Whole Trilogy.......

My favourite of the three! I mean, I love `Tha Dark knight`, but `Begins` has much more dense `Gotham atmosphere` and this feeling of a living, breathing and a bit surreal city that is itself, a character in the story. The most `batmanish` of them all. And now I`m going to shut up and just continue watching you discover this great new cinematic world. 😉

Bruce refused to execute the villager because he was not convinced of his guilt. The other cult members, however, were willing participants in this and doubtless many other such killings. The condemned man had a chance to escape if he took it. Bruce could not guide him, he had to take his initiative and seize the chance for himself. Everyone else there was guilty by participation.

I wanted to point out, or give you a heads-up on something before you watch the third film in the trilogy. Keep in mind Ra's al-Ghul's (Arabic for the Demon's Head) comment at Wayne Manor about immortality. In the comic books, Ra's (pronounced Rey-sh) is essentially immortal due to his access to what are various naturally occuring Fountains of Youth around the world - the Lazarus Pits. Let's just say that the man is ancient, and every time he's mortally wounded or near death, he's placed inside of one only to be healed and restored.

Lifelong Batman fan. I love Batman Begins, and The Dark Knight, but the third movie (Dark Knight Rises) is missing something for me. "The Batman" is THE BEST live-action Batman we've ever gotten, and I'm really waiting for the sequel. They just got so much right, he's less about the crazy gear and deals with more practical - like The Tumbler (the Batmobile in this one) is fucking cool, but I feel like they should be able to figure out who Batman is in 5 minutes, or at least that he has ties to Wayne Enterprises. Whereas the Batmobile from The Batman is more grounded, like anyone dedicated could build it, but still terrifying and awesome. Best Batman though is The Animated Series with Kevin Conroy (RIP) doing his voice. Thanks for this reaction! It was great!

I was in SE Asia and next to the pagoda temple was a grove of mango trees, it was a Buddist bat temple, and during sunset, they bang the gong, and the bats take to the skies and blocked out the sun & stars, and all I could see was a circular river of bats fill the entire sky. I was afraid & in awe of the moment.

Those police cars, and any destruction caused by the batmobile, that's on the cops. They should not have put him in that position. If they would just let him clean up the corruption - the corruption that's even within their own ranks - we wouldn't have these problems. Is it really vigilantism if the cops and justice system are so corrupt and broken, and beholden to a mobster? When the vigilante is the only one actually doing anything?

Legend says that the young blond boy in the movie was so traumatized that he grew up to become quite a wicked and evil prince known as Joffrey Lannister. Although his reign was short lived and only a few would hear him roar, as there were those amongst his subjects suspicious that this once wicked prince, now a cruel and sadistic false king, would not as his Lannister family was oft known for, always pay his debts.

18:36 - You seem to have missed the detail Lucius included when he was describing the suit, albeit Nomex isn't as well-known as Kevlar. When he describes it as being a Nomex/Kevlar bi-weave, he's saying it's meant to be fire resistant and bullet proof. 19:46 - No one seems to catch this. Bruce says to Alfred, "Tell them that joke you know," implying that Alfred knows one - and ONLY one - joke. 🤣 19:53 - TRIVIA: In the old 1966 Batman television series, there was a bust of William Shakespeare that they would tilt the head back and press a button to open the bookcase to reveal "the bat-poles." Somehow, someway, Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson (Robin) would slide down the poles, landing at the bottom in costume. To a child, that was amazing stuff... and I was amazed, indeed. (I grew up on reruns.) HOWEVER, many decades later I would hear Batman, played by the legendary Adam West, say the line, "I took the liberty of spraying the room with bat-anti-bomb spray," to deactivate a bomb, and the campiness of the entire series smacked the amazement right out of me. 😂 22:24 - TRIVIA: This is taken directly from Frank Miller's "Batman: Year One" series. Batman is using technology to summon the bats, but to the police it looks like some kind of bizarre superpower. 25:12 - TRIVIA: Ra's al Ghul in the comics uses something known as the Lazarus Pit to rejuvenate himself for hundreds of years. In this movie, they decided to keep it more grounded. 27:15 - At the start of the video, you mentioned watching "The Batman" several times, and here you speak of a concern for Alfred's well-being. For my entire life, Alfred has been a mainstay of Batman lore, and when Bruce said, "You're not my father," to Alfred in "The Batman," I stopped watching. Yeah, yeah, I heard the movie's excellent. But that ONE line ticked me off so much that I abandoned the movie altogether. 28:01 - Not a "Game of Thrones" fan, eh? 🤨 28:05 - "Don't push the kid away. That's so mean!" Ummm, Kay? They're about to destroy the entire city. Being "mean" is kind of their thing. 🤣 29:21 - "That kid also has pretty problematic parents..." Again, not a "Game of Thrones" fan, eh? 🤣 32:09 - TRIVIA: This mention of the mask... In the comics, the characterization of Bruce Wayne and Batman is reversed, in that Batman is the real character that occasionally puts on a Bruce Wayne mask. Bends your noodle, that one does. 33:28 - Just so you know, many people feel that Scarecrow was underutilized in this movie. So Kay... When are you finishing up "Reacher"? Hmm? 🤨
