The high school one-take scene with so much moving parts and hard cut to Buffy is a work of art.

In the Buffyverse Hell isn't just one place, there are MANY different Hell dimantions, Angle was sent into one, Buffy went to another one in this episode.

Buffy starts the workers' revolution in hell. There's a moment where she's holding a hammer and sickle.

I LOVE this ep because buffy reclaims who she is and her power. She is lost and broken but when that demon tries to make her say she is 'no one' and she quips, "I'm buffy, the vampire slayer... and you are?" It goes right to the core of who she is to herself. Shes not Anne, the sad waitress shes buffy, and they better watch out. She finds her strength again and its so empowering to watch.

Oh and the music in the opening has a change because this was always how it was supposed to be but (now I'm stretching my memory too far here so I can't remember the details) when it was originally done was wrong and the network wouldn't give them money to redo it but after the success of season 2 they got the money to do it the way it was supposed to be.

I don't think David being in the credits is a spoiler, Angel is in the episode, even if it's only dream-Angel.

I agree. Plus Angel even shows up before the intro so we knew David was still in the show

The actors listed in the opening credits is determined by their contracts. Even if it's a spoiler, they legally can't leave actors' names out. Maybe one reason why so many shows these days don't have opening credits (plus the shorter attention spans of modern TV viewers).
@lance92494 күн бұрын
Opening credits just take away time from the actual show even though I like Buffy's I'd prefer shows not have them anyway

The swooping camera shot of Buffy on the platform is one of the greatest hero shots ever. She is pure Slayer incarnate: THE apex predator, alone and unafraid, coldly looking for her next kill as she harrows Hell.

Anne is pronounced the same as Ann. Annie is... Annie. :P lol What do you mean about the vampires taking the summer off? The Scoobies are shown having to deal with the vampires since Buffy is not around to handle them? ;) That awkwardness after a summer apart is sooooo relatable to me. Experienced and seen that high school experience more than once! LOL Love Buffy's "Gandhi" quote in this episode. :P And love Lily's growth here.
@lance92494 күн бұрын
Probably because they took the summer off between season 1 and 2 but yeah we see them fighting them here they have overcome the loss of The Master that made them sparse the summer prior

Thank you for being an ally. It's on all of us- when we hear or see something that's not okay, we have to speak up. Your empathy always comes through in your reactions and it's one of the reasons why I love watching with you. (I agree about the caffeine rush- it sucks because I love coffee! I have to have it because if I don't, I'll have a migraine by lunchtime, but it doesn't actually give me a rush anymore. A true addict! I'm just trying to maintain.)

I feel sorry for Lily. I've seen people like her in real life. Something of a lost soul who doesn't seem quite capable of existing in the real world without someone to latch onto. Poor thing.

Oh, also, the theme music was rerecorded at some point (very possibly between seasons 2 & 3), because it was done in such a rush the first time, that the drummer lost his timing. The band were never happy with it, so they came back and fixed it.

Anne is a terrific opener to a near flawless S3. with the beefed up intro theme. At the start we can see the haphazard amateurish attempts by The Scoobies to patrol with Oz's awful attempt to throw the stake etc. Once we see Buffy as Anne the waitress, we know she can't continue like this and has to help people as is her vocation. Lily of course was in S2 and recognises Buffy, the two of them have a similar story. The part where Joyce blames Giles for Buffy's disappearance is interesting and very true to life where people blame others for their own actions trying to transfer the blame. Buffy of course comes through at the end freeing all the slaves in the Underworld. Some great little comedy moments with Xander and Cordelia again. A great ending with Buffy back home on the doorstep, where no words are needed just relief that she is back. I think we can see the fight sequences improve immensely in S3 onwards, you can now see the show has a much bigger budget with better cinematography and effects.
@lance92494 күн бұрын
Giles hid very important information from Joyce he had her 16-year-old daughter out fighting for her life a secret life behind her back. Now if you're saying Joyce is blaming Giles for the fight she had with Buffy she would actually be right once again Giles fault. The slayer is told by their watcher to tell no one Joyce was kept in the dark because Giles and only learned because she seen it with her own eyes at the worst timing ever the end of the world.
@killianlpc4 күн бұрын
@@lance9249 That may be true, but Joyce did say to Buffy if you leave this house don't come back. She said it, not Giles. As Buffy said to her what did she think was happening when washing blood from her clothing etc. So Joyce knew something was going on, but was in a type of denial. I take your point, but it was ultimately her words and row with Buffy that caused her to leave.

The feeling that something was odd, the music was different, the shots were different and even the dialogues were different until Buffy snapped back into herself. "I'm Buffy the Vampire slayer" line near the end....we're back to normal.

Hi. I’m enjoying your reactions very much. I did a double take when you commented on the prevalence of SA in today’s society, because I think that it might have been my post you read about this issue. Everyone has the same reaction to this theory. “It can’t be true, right?” Then they start asking around and discover that it is. I suspect it happens very often to males, as well, only they are far less likely to report it when it happens. Anyway, I’m looking forward to your reactions as you travel thru the Buffyverse.
@RLucas30004 күн бұрын
As a gay man, it’s such a different world. It’s not impossible for SA to happen, but there are so many gay (and ‘straight’) dudes wanting sex constantly, and tech has certainly made that even easier! I will say, to answer the most obvious question I’ve ever read, I’d rather meet the dude in the forrest than the bear. If that bear wants you dead, you are dead. It’s like asking would you rather find a wrapped up Milky Way bar in the forrest, or a pack of rapid wolves? Yes, you could choke to death on the bar, but still, at work, rest or play, I’d take my chances with the bar.

I really enjoy your reactions, although I still think you'd be better off only watching one or two episodes a week. Buffy was pre-screaming, it wasn't made to be binged back to back. There's a pacing to every show, of course, but these older ones typically take into account that you've had a week or more between episodes. Anyway, on to the episode. You got it, and pretty quickly, too! I did feel so bad when you said Ricky left her right when he tried to kill himself. ^^;; For what it's worth, I really like Anne. She seems.... broken, but I still find I like her. The actress does a good job.

I don't want to spoil anything, but what about the Willow "possession" That's just magic in this universe, not possession, so you don't have to worry about that. Sadly, answering how many times Buffy gets assaulted WOULD be a spoiler
@debbielough7754Күн бұрын
The assault thing - without getting into the whole Joss Whedon's a twat thing - Buffy was actually brave at the time, because the reality of that just wasn't widely shown on TV or in film. The daily reality for girls and women Buffy's age then was that that was just how life was. I was in my early 20s when I watched Buffy as it was broadcast. And it was just normal. None of us liked it, but many of us just had to put up with it if we wanted to have jobs, places at college or school, etc. (I never did, but I was always bolshy.) But I was first cat-called when I was 11 years old. I was first talked to like the guy in the diner talked to Buffy when I was 14. I was first SA'd (only in a minor way) when I was 16. (Edit - I realise I'm talking like it doesn't happen any more, and it absolutely still does - the last time for me was about five years ago (would be more recent, but I spend more time at home at the moment.)

@B-Dad4 күн бұрын
@ screw the ladies. I’m worried about the male gays here 😂😂😂😜 But yeah you can tell CW/WB realized that sweaty men without shirts made women stick around. That was the birthing place for the idea of Supernatural. Monsters and lore to bring in the guys and young guys to keep the girls watching. That’s why they gave them so many emotional speeches. It was just trying to make men cry. It was baiting women to keep watching. Women love fake emotional men.
