Coraline Movie Description:
While exploring her new home, a girl named Coraline (Dakota Fanning) discovers a secret door, behind which lies an alternate world that closely mirrors her own but, in many ways, is better. She rejoices in her discovery, until Other Mother (Teri Hatcher) and the rest of her parallel family try to keep her there forever. Coraline must use all her resources and bravery to make it back to her own family and life.
Coraline is a dark fantasy children's novella by British author Neil Gaiman, published in 2002 by Bloomsbury and Harper Collins. It was awarded the 2003 Hugo Award for Best Novella, the 2003 Nebula Award for Best Novella, and the 2002 Bram Stoker Award for Best Work for Young Readers. The Guardian ranked Coraline #82 in its list of 100 Best Books of the 21st Century. Gaiman started writing Coraline in 1990. The titular character's name came from a typo in "Caroline". According to Gaiman, "I had typed the name Caroline, and it came out wrong. I looked at the word Coraline, and knew it was someone's name. I wanted to know what happened to her." It was adapted as a 2009 stop-motion animated film, directed by Henry Selick.

Coraline is a book by Neil Gaiman. He’s an absolutely amazing writer. He also wrote The Sandman and American Gods, and co-wrote Good Omens with Terry Pratchet. He’s done a lot of comics for DC and Marvel, too.

I grew up in the 80s when children's movies were dark as shit. We've all heard it a million times at this point. But this is the one movie made in recent memory that manages to strike that tone. Where it isn't afraid to occasionally go dark and doesn't hide the audience from innuendo. Great film and Henry Selick just sort of nails it like always.

@phousefilms
@phousefilms Жыл бұрын
Great choice! Now "ParaNorman". It's a Halloween movie too! Fun facts: Neil Gaiman has confirmed that the Beldam is a fae, but of the older kind of stories where they're tricksters and steal children rather than grant wishes. Hints at this: The ring of mushrooms around the well is called "a fairy ring" The food from the Other World is far more delicious and it makes Coraline want more(some stories say that after someone eats fairy food, they can never eat normal food again). The stone that Spink and Forcible give her is an Adder Stone, able to see through glamours and illusions. Fun facts: The song the Other Father sings is done by "They Might Be Giants". It's also a warning, the lyrics saying the Other Mother's plans. The plants the frogs come out of in the garden are called pitcher plants. Flies land in them and they are dissolved in the liquid inside them. The Other Father grins happily as Coraline refuses the buttons and tries to scare her away further. Book info: What happens to the denizens of the Other World in the book is way freakier. Spink and Forcible are pretty much mashed together into a horrible white blob creature and the Other Father is way worse, turned into a waxy worm like creature.

This movie traumatized me so much when I was 8 years old. I still remember the nightmare I had after watching the movie for the first time. In the nightmare the small door to the other world was in my bedroom closet, the color of the tunnel was red and orange, it was my parents who had button eyes, and there was another tunnel that led to creepy dimly lit bedroom with dark wood bunkbed and a tall black candelabra. Its been over 13 years since then and I still remember every detail. The movie doesn't scare as much anymore but I still find it creepy. Overall this is actually pretty good movie to watch, especially since Halloween is coming up soon.

i heard a theory on this movie that she never really went back to her original world because you know how she got there by going through the door, well she probably just went further and further into other dimensions because she just kept falling asleep at night instead of going back through the door.

Did you know: Originally, after the movie had finished production and was ready to be released to the public, the director and someone else (the publisher?) considered not releasing Coraline and basically never letting it be seen by the public because they worried it was too scary for children (their target audience). So, they decided to let the daughter of one of the cast members watch it and tell them if it was scary or not. The daughter said it wasn’t that scary, and so the movie was published. About a year or several later, the same daughter eventually confesses the movie actually did scare the crap out of her, lol. Honestly, I’m really grateful Coraline was published, it’s one of my favorite movies and it would have been an absolute shame for several years of hard work producing this wonderful movie to be scrapped. Edit: Correction, I’m being told this info was actually about the original book, not the movie. If this is true, my bad.
