My sister is in love with this movie as she's a big Elvis fan. It's crazy how Austin Butler prepared for this role. He put his entire heart and soul to play the king of rock n' roll and he did it extraordinary well. Hell, he even ended up in the hospital the day after filming ended. Elvis is my third favorite movie of the year, behind Everything Everywhere All at Once and Top Gun: Maverick.

Most of his career, Tom plays sympathetic characters. Have you seen Road to Perdition? He literally plays a mob enforcer and you still root for him. However, in this movie, he actually did what is arguably the rarest thing he's ever done in his career: he convinces the audience to hate his character. That's kind of impressive. Proof that Tom is good not only at playing nice guys.

People hate the idea of Hanks in this role and I completely loved it. Why? Because Hanks is always a good guy and is likeable. You trust him. So when you see him play Parker; there's a part of you who WANTS to trust him and you can see why Elvis does. He never tells Elvis was to do (at least until the end with the debt). He manipulates Elvis to feel like HE is coming up with these ideas. The way the Vegas conversation goes blows my mind and I don't think those scenes would be completely successful with someone other than Hanks. It was a perfect portrayal.

I'm not even a big Elvis fan and yet, this movie is dazzlingly epic and tragically heartbreaking, and like the King himself, completely unforgettable. The ending of it just broke me. Unlike Elton John, who cleaned up and made an uplifting musical comeback at the end of Rocketman, Elvis Presley just wasn't able to get out from under that greedy, manipulative, and despicable Colonel, and as in real life, died long before he should have in 1977. Elvis has left the building.

He bought hundreds of cars for people who needed cars. the cook from Graceland was on David Letterman and he asked if Elvis bought her anything and she said, "first he told me I would have a job there as long as I wanted one and she was there for decades after he died. It really is a great job. I wish the marketing was clearer on who was singing what. using the words like 'mixed' and 'blended' is causing people to think Austin is singing the '68 and later songs and I don't think that's the case. He is singing the a cappella stuff in the later years but you can tell when it's Elvis. You can't mimic those tracks like 'If I can Dream' no matter how good of an actor you are. But the transitions were really good.

The older songs where Mono, that‘s the reason to recorded the old songs new, They couldn’t take Mono songs into the movie. So Austin was singing this songs. He did it well. If I can dream and Unchained Melody are a challenge for any good singer. But nobody can sing this songs like Elvis. His voice got better and better as he got older. He was an unique singer. Austin couldn't have kept up. The original recordings of Elvis make the film special. The ending with Unchained Melody brought tears to many. Putting the real Elvis in the middle of the song was incredibly clever, it blew me away.
@SuperMonkeeGirl2 жыл бұрын
@@monikakoch6309 It was definitely the correct choice to let Austin handle those younger songs. The 2005 mini series, I believe, uses the original recordings and you can tell they are not up to par for what they were doing. The 'live' songs still sounded like old distant recordings. Nothing that could be done by it but I am glad the new movie felt more natural and real.

So most of the in film "live performances" were sang by Austin with real musicians that we trained with during pre-production. This is an Oscar worthy film and might be a big winner due to the possible of many nominations like best actor, best supporting actor, best production designer, costume designer, best film, best director and film of the year. It's a well received film, like Bohemian Rhapsody..., it's not a movie, it's an experience and educate this youth of our decades of pop culture but our music history. 15:43 I think that was supposed to be Revered W. Herbert Brewster. Elvis used to sing with the choir in his church when his family moved to the government housing project in Memphis. Saw a snippet of him being interviewed about the teenage Elvis, said his voice 'only needed tuning' and that 'he was a bundle of energy set to music'. The reverend wrote several songs as well, one of which I'm sure was 'Old Landmark' that we see/hear James Brown performing in the first Blues Brothers movie (annoyingly is not in the soundtrack but it's a performance you have to watch rather than listen to).

"A Star is Born" was originaly a movie for Elvis Presly to star in, at exactly that stage of his life. The colonel didn't let him do it.

My granddaughters saw this movie three times in the theater. Tom Hanks looks like Colonel Tom Parker in the his movie and he was from The Netherlands. This movie seems so real to me. I’m 68 years old and watched as Elvis took on society with his music but never appreciated the depth of control Parker had over his life. So sad. I loved this movie!!😊

Just as friendly reminder, folks. Elvis was 24 when he met Priscilla and she was 14… just sayin

Yes Austin Butler sang some. But you can tell the difference when it's Elvis singing. That special magic tone comes to life with Elvis. Absolutely NO Elvis impersonator can capture this.

Its still so funny Austin can't stop talking like Elvis. And Ethan Klein said Austin Butler is just yassified Napoleon Dynamite, he was so right.

I think the funny and clever comments every second is too much. Not seeing you legitimately react to the movie.

Actual fact: Elvis actually Hated alcohol and all the girlfriends he was with all say the same thing about him that they were treated like royalty, yes he would eventually get bored from each and every single one, but they never said a bad word about him but only words of praise and kindness . You still have a lot to learn about EP 😁

Yeah, of course they won’t say anything bad about Elvis. When a dude wiggles like he does, they’re screaming to know how he *AHEM* wiggles in bed….

So, all the singing before the '68 Comeback Special is 100% Austin Butler. From that special onwards, it's the real Elvis Presley with Austin's voice mixed in to a certain degree.

2:30 I didn't get it either but the whole thing about snowmen is that they're conmen - snow equals blizzard equals being unable to see (I think that's the logic behind the other term 'snow')

flashed back to me: something on wall like "League of Snowmen" in Colonel's room...

The most interesting and entertaining review of the movie I’ve seen. I love this movie. I know some people feel that important items were left out but he had to limit the length AND the focus was on the relationship between EP and no colonel, no Tom, no Parker. It was exceptional acting.

I saw the movie 13 times in the theater. Never happened to me before as long I can remember. I just bought the DVD and the soundtrack. Absolutely love it! And love Baz movies, specially Moulin Rouge. And this movie Elvis is one if his masterpiece. Oscars for Austin and the movie. His almost three years of preparation for the movie really paid off. The Colonel only saw Elvis as a negotiation 🥹😔😡. Love every detail of your review. 😉.

He sings everything before he goes into the military and then it is a mixture in some of the rest, according to Baz. Austin had never sang to anyone before, but he does play the guitar and piano.

Fyi, If I Can Dream with Elvis in white suit, it is Elvis'.... whereas when Austin is laying down singing a few lines of that song, it is Austin. And it is 100% Elvis in Vegas, and Unchained Melody at the end.

@@mbrights3158 Where the stems were used in Vegas is done very well and Wheeler the guy who cut it says that Austin matched the actual footage so well it is difficult to tell where the stems happen.

That moment at the end is actually Austin in a Fat Suit, they didn't show the real footage. My mom and I thought the same thing when we saw it in theaters and then when I got home I did some research and Austin actually put on a fat suit and the outfit for that final song.
@alexrossi41102 жыл бұрын
So to answer your question earlier in the video, Austin does sing as 50’s Elvis. Anything after the 50’s is a mixture of Austin and Elvis’s voice.

Fyi, it was Elvis from the 68 Special and afterward. By a "mix".. it means there are a few exceptions, for example: If I Can Dream with Elvis in white suit, it is Elvis'.... whereas when Austin is laying down singing a few lines of that song, it is Austin. And it is 100% Elvis in Vegas, and Unchained Melody at the end.

The younger Elvis songs are sung by Austin Butler. Older ones are Elvis, I believe.

Yes...absolutely. People are confused. It was Elvis from the 68 Special and afterward. Best~ ;)
