At the end it was New Vegas. Corporate thought is not necessarily always logical. And this is a different timeline from ours that branched off from ours sometime between the end of World War 2 and 1961, so the mindset is different.

@beelzeduck3 ай бұрын
Absolutely. Max, Lucy/Goosey (since I absolutely _love_ that take) and the Ghoul _all_ have character arcs and abilities (S.P.E.C.I.A.L.) like one would experience as a hypothetical player of an Fallout style RPG. Max has relatively low stats in intelligence and at least one level of the idiot savant-perk from Fallout 4. I think they actually went a bit high on the intelligence rating of the official stat sheet. For Max is deffo a low IQ RPG character. On a similar note, the Ghoul likely has a high V.A.T.S. build, which is why so many of his shooting scenes go slowmo and are extra gory - with official Luck stat of 4, he absolutely must have the Bloody Mess perk. Pretty sure they (would have) used both S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats and the perk systems as a guideline tool for how to write the scripts.

11:00 "Unless it's just like a power trip" - yes, it's exactly like that. Look at real life rich people - specifically, the ones that run their businesses in shady ways. And there are plenty of them. They don't need to work to survive. Usually, they don't even need to do those shady things in order for their company to proper, or survive. It's a power trip. It's a game. The objective of that game is to get more power. And right now, that's done with making more money. If they changed the equation, they could get their kicks in other ways. I'm not saying that the scenario depicted in this episode would work in real life. But like hilarywilliams1909 said, this is a different world, with different mindsets.

Moldaver is still alive IMO in the same way Lucys dad is still alive, cryogenic suspension. IMO, she came out maybe thirty years before, she is clearly much younger when they show her with lucys mom. Also IMO Moldaver is the current leader of The New California Republic, since the observatory is the NCRs headquarters. Her POD was either a cryo suite in New Vegas or a private vault of her own construction. The code that Hank inputs is the release date of the first Fallout game. Moldaver hired muscle in the vault raid, notice that that her actual people didn't participate in the random killing. Hank had no helmet to wear the Ghoul blew it off with a grenade.

Re: Maximus. I can see where he might come off as unlikable. He's a very confused person, and makes poor choices because of it. It's my opinion that we are supposed to find sympathy for him in the fact that he wants to do what's right, ultimately, but his conflicting worldviews create flaws in his thinking. On the one hand, he has this memory of being rescued by a Brotherhood Knight, so he has a romantic notion that the Brotherhood, and by extension himself, are and should be heroic. But painful experiences have made him somewhat bitter and vengeful, creating a psychological conflict. He wants to do what's right, but he also wants to protect himself in an every man for himself style. So sometimes his choices are an attempt at heroism, and sometimes they are mercenary, but they always seem to come out wrong. Maybe i've over-explained it. Feel free to discuss.

Look at Maximus' face when Dane holds up his arm and pronounces him a Knight. IMO, he revered the Brotherhood of Steel in the beginning because he believed they saved him from the destruction of Shady Sands. However, over the years he became disillusioned with their philosophy and always being beaten and crapped on. In his final scene when you look at his face he is torn between his disillusionment and his need for revenge against Lucy's father for his causing the destruction and his home and death of his family. And yes, you are right in the fact that those big corporations wanting to profit from war. Bud, I think, didn't think his plan through very well. If he intended to "breed" the perfect executive, then let them loose in the world all of those executives are going to want more power and control. They would then turn on each other starting the cycle of violence all over again.

Since I didn't see a comment give you the answer. The ghoul that look surprised when Lucy and THE GHOUL walk into the observatory was one of the ghouls Lucy set free at the Super Duper Mart.

The Brotherhood in the show are very much a warped shadow of itself, it was originally founded around the same as the Great War under the premise of preserve technology and keep it out of the hands of those who would misuse it but also to defend the defenceless. Unfortunately they dropped that last part pretty quickly, different leaders of different chapters of the BOS did have varying ideals over the years though. The found would likely condemn what the BOS has become. It’s funny that you mentioned the different vaults would be different factions because Shady Sands was founded by survivors from Vault 15.
@noxteryn3 ай бұрын
Also, to add to this, there are a lot of different chapters that operate locally and independently. Generally, the East Coast Brotherhood is considered to be more humanitarian, while the West Coast Brotherhood shows more religious zealotry.

Oh man, never seen a reactor have such a simplistic world view & not question things. Like yes, divorce was cuz of spying but never asked the question if it has any other validity. Same with maximum getting the dislike. Weirdly she didn't hate norm. And corprotism of corporations isnt just for money, its for monopoly. In a wasteland when there's no competition & only you exist, thats perfect monopoly because at that time you can just take or create the money you want while sacrificing anything else.

So vault 32 is down for 2 years, no communication. Overseer changes in 32 without vault 31's control. Hank doesn't have the slightest inquiry about the man marrying his daughter, "his world."
@inspectre273 ай бұрын
I'll try to explain without spoilers, but it may be tricky. No one is making any money off of the vaults anymore. The vaults' goals are other now. The bigwigs around the table were calling out their ideas about what they thought each vault's goals should be. Some of the ideas sounded like just science experiments, but some (like 31, 32, 33) were attempts at creating a perfect society once all the surface dwellers were dead and the fallout cleared. Bud kind of explained to Coop that he believed careful management to be the key. Someone at the table mentioned an intellectual meritocracy. Etc. In the games, you find some vaults and can puzzle out what the point of them was. Usually rather funny in a dark way. Anyway, I feel like I didn't explain it quite right, but I hope it helps a little. Fellows, please correct any mistakes i made and add stuff i missed. But be very careful of spoilers.

@nighthiker2 ай бұрын
About the "power grab" thing... What we see (people living sheltered in the vaults) is not the end game. When Bud talks about time being the ultimate weapon, he means that once the world is destroyed, if they're the only ones who have access to the vault technology and can engineer a new society (based on the - admittedly f*cked up - experiments done in the various vaults), once everyone ourtside is gone and after the world is ready to be recolonized, they and their descendants would be able to go back to the surface as the dominant group. But that measn being sure people on top can't organize back into a succesful society, which is why Hank destroyed Shady Sands. So, in short, what we see in the series is still only half way to the end game. In any case, yeah, it's videogame lore, not supposed to make complete sense (though one could very well argue real life doesn't make much sense either, just look at our current state and what people believe in nowadays).

My prediction for Norm involves "RoboBud's" comment about the only thing to eat in Vault 31 is the occasional very large bug. I don't believe that line is simply filler. How would "very large bugs" get into the vault? Perhaps someone of small stature could get out the same way. Vault-Tec wasn't about about post-war money. It was about being the ones in control -- the ONLY ones in control. Also, none of the nukes were buried -- they were all delivered via the air and detonated very near the surface.

Good ol' behaviour psychology. Part of the national treasure trove the US took bloodied from the Nazis. Whoops! Season 2, 3, 4 or maybe never spoilers. But certainly was true in the game series, Mein Herr. The end location was New Vegas. It was for the gaming crowd, to get the base excited for the potential of Season 2. Bring on the hep-cat gangs, Mr. House, whatever happened to Caesar's Legions, and even Vault Zero if we are lucky.

Now that you have been introduced to the world of Fallout, I would watch some game play of the video game. This will not spoil season 2 due to the TV show being canonical to the games. Think of it as Fallout 4.5. I recommend Oxhorn for a very deep dive or a shorter dip RadKing. Oh Moldaver... Pay attention to the billboard advertisement at the end-credit graphics.

There's a lot that can be said to explain a lot of things to you that would help with understanding but it's a LOT of typing and backstory that relates to the games as well to get a lot of it out, not sure you would find it interesting or worthwhile though so won't go for it unless you are after it :)

Yes, its stupid. Stupid, poorly thought out ideas and mindsets is a common thing in the Fallout series. That end "city" is New Vegas, the setting of the sequel to Fallout 3; Fallout New Vegas. While this series is set after Fallout 4, this season nodded toward Fallout 3, in that the player sets out to find their dad. That end scene indicates that this will continue with Season Two nodding to Fallout: New Vegas. Perhaps season 3 will similarly nod toward Fallout 4. Although it already kind of has with the concept of cryo-frozen people from when the bombs dropped (Fallout 4's player character is in one such person).
@JustGrowingUp843 ай бұрын
Yeah, I also didn't like how they waited until the end to give us all the answers. I'm also not a fan of their overuse of cliffhanger endings. Regarding how Moldaver survived for so long: She was a wealthy businesswoman and a scientist who had a company working in cutting edge tech - remember that it was her company that developed cold fusion. After that, Vault-Tec bought her company (possibly through a hostile takeover). So, presumably, she had the money and the access to technology to get her own cryo-pod. The show does a poor job explaining a few things.
@gottagowork3 ай бұрын
Vault Tec bought *every* company she's ever worked for. Not only cold fusion. So I'm guessing she's had her hands in cryo as well and already had built her own. Institute and 108/Gary have also been suggested, but I find those less likely. So who knows, they could spin it in whatever fashion they desire.
