When I first watched it, I was a kid and thought it was pretty fun! Like I was so young I didn't recognize any historical events (tbf I'm Swedish) and I didn't realize Forrest was intellectually challenged. So most of the movie went over my head, but I still liked it. Then I watched it on a flight in my 20s, and I've never cried that much in public. It's heartfelt, sad and funny and you're rooting so hard for Forrest and Jenny as they live through historical event after historical event. It can make you laugh even when you're crying. It really is the perfect movie.

Gary Sinise was deeply affected by playing Lt. Dan. It inspired him to become deeply involved in Veteran charity by starting his own foundation for Vets, The Gary Sinise Foundation. The work he has done is beyond extraordinary. He even toured for some time with "The Lt. Dan Band" to military bases around the world in USO shows.

Good reaction, Daisy. You are one of the few movie reactors out there who actually understood Jenny's character and the fact that she was heavily traumatized from the horrific abuse she suffered as a child which deeply affected her throughout her life.

From Elvis to AIDS (or Hep C in the book) Forrest Gump is the story of a generation; the historical touchstones, the music, the traumas, and the philosophical problems we wrestled with. I love watching people react to this movie to see what things they recognize and what things they don't. I read that some high school American History courses use the film to cover the time period because it touches on so many of the major events.
@tvdroid228 ай бұрын
Hep C was first isolated in 1989. The book was written in 1985 for a 1986 release, so it wasn't even possible to say that, and since it usually takes decades for symptoms to appear with hepatitis-related viruses, it doesn't track. However, in 2019, screenwriter Eric Roth confirmed it was AIDS.
@zimvader254 ай бұрын
It was Hep C in the movie as well, regardless of what dumb nonsense Roth and Zemeckis said a couple of years ago. Jenny specifically says it's a virus that they don't know what it is, in the movie. At that timeline in the movie, HIV was very deadly and absolutely very well known by doctors. Hep C was the deadly virus barely being discovered around the timeline where they have that conversation.

This movie is masterful. On my first watch it was entertaining, but as I have watched it more, the depth of the movie comes out. Notice the theme of shoes/feet/running. The movie is about the paths of our lives, and it is woven through the entire movie - Forest’s braces, his running shoes, Lt Dan’s comment about feet in Vietnam and then he has to reinvent his purpose when his feet are blown off and at the end he has new “magic” legs and notice that Jenny is barefoot and throws her shoes at her old house when she is finally able to begin moving on from her past. The whole movie - absolutely great.

Most reactors totally miss the significance of the speech that the crowd missed, but was heard by the character in the US flag shirt (Abbie Hoffman). Also, it seems nobody gets it that Forrest had a physical response to his first adult moment with Jenny, which is why the roommate's robe got messed up. If you're not familiar with John Lennon, they also showed Forrest as being the reason for the lyrics to Lennon's song "Imagine." Lt Dan's statement about being an astronaut is ironic as Gary Sinise played an astronaut with Tom Hanks in Apollo 13.

A lot of reactors are unforgiving with Jenny for constantly leaving Forrest. But even a guy with an IQ of 75 realized that his friend had gone through a lot of awful abuse as a child and needed to figure things out in her own way. Run Forrest Run was literally the only advice she could give because that's what she'd been doing all her life - running from her trauma. Forrest was obviously sad and depressed when Jenny left, which is why he went for his own "little run." But he didn't hold grudges. He knew why Jenny did what she did. He didn't have a high IQ, but he had emotional intelligence.

4 months late... This is one of Thee Greatest Movies of All Time. Tom Hanks is one of Thee Greatest Actors of All Time. Title & Outro: "So many tears" 'had you sobbing' - could be because it's a YT edit, but no evidence to support. As a Reactor - you need to connect your viewers to you AND the movie through your verbal, physical and emotional reactions. Again could be that this is a YT Edit, but no evidence to support; till Jenny passed. Could also be the downward angle of the camera; but still no evidence to support. But also note that some of thee greatest reactions have little verbalization but are full with emotional and physical content. Video editing is good. FYI: If you get stuck in publishing on YT cause of issues - since you've already watched (which ever movie you're stuck on) go look at how other Reactors edited theirs! It can help! Ultimately you want them to become your Patreon subs! A plus is you're not repeating things just to repeat them!!! A lot of Reactors think it's just 'reacting to videos' but it's soo much more. "Your insight" and 'knowledge' and 'attention to detail' are all Very Good! Outro Pretty Good too! But a lot of 'awww' - or too much, it doesn't convey much. Or 'that's sad' which only portrays/shows a very small amount of sadness. A lot of Reactors do that and use those words a lot, or to an extreme amount... Which for me: "that's sad" because it seems like there is almost nothing that 'moves' the Reactor; they have limited vocabulary; or they have little experience and so on. Was it Heart Breaking? When Jenny prayed it was. Was it Soul Crushing?!? When Jenny Passed and Forrest said: "I won't be that far away." Did it make you feel Proud? When Forrest Graduated! Beautiful beyond belief? When Forrest was describing things when Jenny was in her bed: "You were!" My mom said: "Her heart was full" only a couple of times, it's been like 50 years since I last heard it. Scene: When Forrest and Jenny are standing together and Forrest turns to see Lt. Dan... Other Reactors have said: "I can't do this! I can't do this!" Long pause: "My heart is full of sadness and too much happiness, I feel like I'm going to burst" (paraphrased). Another one said with a cracking voice: "Yay!" In her outro she made fun of herself and the "Yay" but partially noted for the movie: "I was either too happy to be sad or too sad to be happy." Other wise it was okay. Try not to take negativity to hard, nor to heart! "This is the internet." Do Not Forget: "This is your channel and you should do it the way you want to! No matter what anyone says." Thank you for sharing.

Most reactors tend to hate Jenny, always hurting Forrest by leaving him and being with other men. I always got the impression that she did not want to be alongside a mentally challenged individual like Forrest. Kind of high horse snobby toward him. So while everyone is resentting Jenny for that. So, when she comes back in 1976, the year of the Bicentennial, everyone always says: "So, Jenny, you found out that he's rich......" Then, she leaves him again, this time after sleeping with him for the first time, they are just done with her and hope Jenny goes away and never comes back to hurt him ever again. You have not taken that stance, and that is quite refreshing.
@adriennerobinson89848 ай бұрын
Jenny was never Forrest's girlfriend, they were best friends, so she didn't leave him to be with other men, she was just living her own life and they happened to cross paths a few times. Also, it isn't wrong for her to not want to date Forrest for being mentally challenged, she may have thought he was too innocent. Some viewers can't handle that she had her own life to live rather than just stay tied to Forrest simply because it would make him happy but that doesn't make her bad or in the wrong and not all reactors I've seen dislike Jenny.

It had nothing to do with his disability. She loved him and cared for him. She just didn't love him romantically at first. Forest was good and pure. @@deeanna8448 Agreed, the point I was trying to make was she loved him as a best friend and never gave him the impression she wanted to be with him romantically nor did she leave him since they were living separate lives as adults but they ran into each other then went their separate ways again like old friends do. The only time she did him wrong was leave the last time after they had sex without telling him, but I think it was because she was still dealing with her own demons that she didn't think she could be what Forrest wanted her to be.

1. The music rights alone must have cost a small fortune.🤑🤑 2. Kurt Russell did the voice for Elvis. 3. IRL Sally Fields is only 10 years older than Tom Hanks. 4. Having gotten his degree Forrest could have gone into the Army as an officer like Lt. Dan. His ASVAB kills that. 5. He actually saved Lt Dan twice. Once in the field and again to get him out of his post war funk and Dan turned his life around. 6. Normally an enlisted Army person would be fully aware of his/her separation date. 5. Jenny did indeed give him the best gift ever (it wasn't the shoes) 8. Jenny died of Hep-C from dirty needles when she was in Caliphony. 9. It's ironic that Lt. Dan told the guys to take care of their feet because he loses his. 10. At the rally Forrest says, "Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing. That's all I have to say about that." 11. You have had a ride through recent US history and culture. From Elvis, John Lennon, Abby Hoffman to Vietnam and Watergate. Even the jogging craze of the 70's. About the only thing left out was streaking. 13. "Sometimes I guess there're just aren't enough rocks" 14. Haley Joel Osmentt/Forrest Jr. steals the show in "The Sixth Sense" with Bruce Willis. 15. Often when he's finishing a segment about death, he ends it by saying "That's all I have to say about that" 16 Keep in mind if Jenny wasn't wasting her life seeking men like her father and was with Forrest he/we wouldn't have had this incredible journey.

Actually, Forrest was that feather. Unlike Lt. Dan, Forrest never had a goal in life. Forrest didn't worry about meeting goals, He just floated around on a breeze and made the best of wherever the wind took him, and along the way he inspired others to not worry so much about their futures, and just take the time to live life to it's fullest and build happiness, and in the end things would work out. Of course, Dan was the greatest transition. He had decided long ago that his goal was to go out in glory, but Forrest robbed him of that, and forced him on a new path, so Dan was able to rebuild his life, bringing himself success, happiness, love, and he even got to replace the thing that his old goals had taken from him (his leg). Since you liked this, another movie that basically has the same meaning (living your life versus meeting your goals) and is equally as beautiful is Mr. Holland's Opus.

There’s no genre..people always try to place films, songs, actors, painters into genres., otherwise defined as constraints. But art doesn’t understand genres. It’s either creative and relevant with meaning.. or it isn’t. What the Hell does a genre have to do with any of that?
