"I wish they would say this in the show." They do, but most of it is spoken of in passing, as if it's a "throwaway" historical fact, likely because book readers already knew the backstory.

Some watchers of the show never bothered with the books, yet have the nerve to say details aren't included.
@MrKingYuji Жыл бұрын
When you adapt to the big screen or little screen, you are on a time restraint and budget. The show does what it can to include as much relevant world information as possible. Anything else, that’s what the books are for.

I didn't think you'd watch the histories and lore but honestly, this will really fill in the gaps for the world of game of thrones. Watching these will make a massive impact on how you view the show now, I love that you're doing these.

I know this is old but these history videos are genius to have everybody explain a topic IN CHARACTER. I feel like having that helps explain context around these things alot more

7:17 Yes, it's his own world, inspired by some true events. It has it's own laws and history. 7:25 He created about 5000 years of history in that world. 19:34 This is not facts about history. It's context from the narrator perspective. The voice you hear is meant to be the character in the show talking about it. So it's how they perceived that part of history.

Varys is not a Maester. That old guy who is pretending to be weak is a Maester. His name is Pycelle. The nice old man who talks to Bran at Winterfell is Maester Luin, and the old Targaryen guy who talks to Jon and Sam at Castle Black is a Maester.

“It’s incredible that this all came from the mind of one person” Not to take away from GRRM’s creative genius, which is undeniable, but much of what he writes is heavily inspired by real history. For example, The Wall is based off of Hadrian’s Wall which was built by the Roman Emperor Hadrian in northern Britain to protect the Romans from the Picts after their failed invasion of modern day Scotland, the Andal invasion is based off of the Anglo-Saxon invasion of post Roman Britain, Aegon the conqueror is based off of a real person named William the Conqueror who invaded and beat those same Anglo-Saxons centuries later and took the throne of England, the current conflict being depicted in game of thrones is based off of the War of the Roses in England between the Yorks (Starks) and the Lancasters (Lannisters), and so on. A direct quote from George goes like this, “I get inspiration from history, then I take elements from history and turn it up to 11”.

The series of History and Lore episodes are actually meant to be watched before each season. If you notice, there were no spoilers for season one in this video. They do not explain what happened in the season, they prepare you for it. Imagine how less confused you would have been having watched this first.

Yeah it is crazy that George created this whole world by himself. George is in a league of his own when it comes to writing. He’s so smart, he loves history and other cultures and he’s a huge fan of Tolkien and Lovecraft. He became a screenwriter for TV but grew frustrated with how everything in his script would be cut out to meet budget and logistic restraints. So He wrote the Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire with loads of characters and locations and plots/storylines as a direct response to his frustrations with TV writing. He thought he wrote a series that could never be adapted due to the scope. George is so detailed in every aspect of the world that it absolutely feels like a real world. George continues to be incredibly detailed and introduce more and more each book/season. You’ll see. George’s legacy should be as one of the greatest novel writers ever

I wouldnt say hes in a leaugue of his own there are quite a few stories written with as much world and lore depth and nor was he even the first. For example tolkien. Martin himself says theres a reason every modern fantasy writer aspires to have their writing compared to tolkiens. He shares this leaugue with a few ppl. Just a few though.

Yes, it's a whole separate planet/universe. And yes, Grrm created it all. But he based it all on real world mythology.

It's interesting hearing all these stories from the different povs. The Mad King might have been a bad guy, but it makes total sense his son Viserys wouldn't believe those stories. It also explains why he was such a dick growing up, seeing his whole family be destroyed.

The Baratheons (Robert and his brothers) are descendants of the Storm Kings and Durran Godsgrief. Which may explain their extremely stubborn self determination and intensity 😂 they’re quite a bit more expanded upon in the books and surrounding materials (A World of Ice and Fire and the Dunk and Egg comics), but the Baratheons as a general rule do not play around, and neither did their Durrandon ancestors. Which Rhaegar and his father learned firsthand.

Great video. some answers to your questions sans spoilers: 1. Wildlings are just First Men genetically, but separated by the Wall from the region known as the North. They aren’t supernatural in any way like the Children or the Others (White Walkers). Do take these divisions with a grain of salt, though. Maybe among the remotest peasants there are some who still keep only the bloodlines of the First Men, but generally there has been intermixing aplenty between them and the Andals. It’s just a question of which legacy dominates and which regions are more culturally Andal (which is the vast majority of them). 2. Yes, this is a separate planet, called Planetos (creative, I know). 3. Jaime didn’t intend to take the throne for himself, he had no claim to it by blood and was barely out of boyhood (he was 16). Robert did have a claim, technically, though it was watery at best and probably had more to do with power than actual legitimacy. Anyway, Jaime had just turned on and killed the king he was supposed to protect while Tywin’s army raided the city. He then stayed in the same room and waited for someone to take the Red Keep while sitting on the throne over Aerys’ corpse. Ned Stark was the first to come in and was alarmed to find Jaime there, fearing some Lannister treachery. So Jaime laughed, got off and said, “Don’t worry, Ned. I was just keeping it warm for your friend.” Make of this what you will! This is all from the first book even if they didn’t describe it in such a detailed way in the show.

Robert’s claim was pretty good. If you discount Aerys and his descendants, then Robert was next in line anyways. He and his brothers are the closest relatives to the Targaryens apart from Aerys’ branch, as his grandmother was a Targ. It’s a bit odd that such a distant relation is the closest, but it is what it is.
