I mean, why should she be friendly with her husband's bastard? He's a constant reminder of her husband's infidelity. By being nice to Jon Snow, it tells Ned that it was okay that he slept around. I probably wouldn't even stand to have him in my house at all.

"Pseudo" is pseudoephedrine which was commonly used in cold and flu medicines and could be bought over the counter, but it is also a key ingredient in methamphetamine. Thats why Jesse had to buy so much of it. You also cant buy too much in one place or they get suspicious. I believe pseudo has since been banned in cold medicines. Walter, being the chemist he is, will use methylamine instead of pseudo because its easier to get in bulk.

12:28 Via google on why Cuban cigars are illegal: Cuban cigars are illegal in the United States is down to the trade embargo that was put in place between the US and Cuba in February 1962. The embargo was established under John F. Kennedy’s leadership, and it put a stop to all imports from Cuba. This was done as a way of taking a stand against Fidel Castro’s Communist regime and attempting to weaken his power during the Cold War. Sixty years on, and the embargo remains in place.

The US had an embargo against Cuban product since the Communist Revolution there. So, yes, Cuban cigars were illegal. That changed under Obama.

I remember reading somewhere that Jesse was originally supposed to be killed off at the end of season 1, but his 'chemistry' with Walt was undeniable, so they opted to continue expanding his storyline.

Something rather interesting is that marijuana is still considered more illegal than methamphetamine based on federal drug scheduling. Marijuana is schedule 1, meaning that it has a high potential for abuse, no accepted medical uses, and a lack of accepted safety for use associated with it. Methamphetamine, on the other hand, is a schedule 2 substance, meaning the same high potential for abuse, a high potential for dependency, and that it currently has accepted medical uses. That may sound odd, but the reason for this is because it is currently prescribed to treat ADHD under the name Desoxyn. The more you know!

Cuban cigars are illegal in the US because of an embargo on Cuba put in place by JFK a few years after Fidel Castro’s revolution. They are considered the best cigars in the world.

Cuban cigars are I believe illegal in the U.S. to this very day because of the embargo against Cuban goods which followed the Cuban Revolution & Castro coming to power and aligning with the Soviet Union in the late 1950’s, which led to the Cuban Missile Crises & fears of Nuclear Armageddon, a series of increasingly goofy CIA plots to assassinate Castro, it was a whole thing. Of course here in the 21st Century the Cold War is over, the Soviet Union’s gone, Castro’s dead and we still have this completely pointless embargo going due to sheer political inertia.

So, this actually wasn't written as a season finale - filming was interrupted by the writers strike at the time. The intended S1 finale actually ends up occuring in early S2 instead.

They're called smurfs cause you can't buy Sudafed in bulk, they put your ass on a registry, so you have to have other people go buy some. You can maybe get 2 boxes at a time before they start slappin' you with bans.

Best thing about George R.R Martin is that he's not fucking around when it comes to killing loved characters. The Red Wedding is such a well written scene and very typical of how that author treats his characters.

Meth is poison!! It's been 20+ years since I used and I can still smell it on people. I was in a gas station a few days ago and passed a couple as I was walking in. I smelled it right away, it turned my stomach. It's a sickening chemical smell from their sweat. 🤮🤮 Great episode, it brings up a lot of memories!!

It's common for younger reactors such as yourself to see Walter's situation as an indictment of healthcare costs in America. You've lived under "Obamacare" your whole life (or at least adult life) and don't realize the extent to which it is destroying healthcare in America and making it more expensive. But Breaking Bad is pre-Obamacare. That doesn't make it better; just different. The issue is more complex than it appears. For example, Walter is said to have particularly bad insurance coverage, and he goes outside of that coverage to get the best possible doctors. The availability of "best possible doctors" is a plus for the US, but the cost, especially without help from insurance, is high. He also has medication and procedures available to him that may not be available elsewhere due to the high level of innovation (albeit at high cost) in the US. I don't want to get into a debate over how the US should do healthcare. I only want to point out that it is not possible to make an objective claim that US healthcare is "too expensive" or even "more expensive" than it is elsewhere in the world because there are too many factors to consider. It suffices for the purpose of Breaking Bad to see that his cancer care is going to be expensive.
