That breath attack that Godzilla shoots out of his mouth is called Atomic Breath. The Atomic Breath is basically a highly condensed radiation fire beam. This was actually his weakest Atomic Breath you see in the Monsterverse franchise. The reason it is his weakest is because 1. He had just woken up after a long nap and 2. The Mutos emp blasts also affect Godzilla severely weakening all his abilities. The Mutos are quite literally Anti-Godzilla as they have the abilities to weaken the Godzilla species. Godzilla also contains another atomic ability that you will see later in the Monsterverse franchise which is called the Atomic Pulse. The Atomic Pulse is basically like the Atomic Breath, but instead of shooting it out of the mouth, Godzilla fires off a dome of radiation outwards of his body engulfing anything within the blast radius in an extremely hot highly radioactive inferno.

​@@mazm851Legendary has been frustratingly inconsistent with this. They say the comics are canon, but also actively ignore the comics when making their shows and movies. For example, Monarch practically completely decanonized Godzilla: Awakening, as it retells the same events and some very important parts of that comic are missing. The way I tend to go about it is that the comics basically don't matter, unless directly referenced by the films.

I think it would be a fair assessment to say the very imagery of a giant lizard dinosaur standing as tall as buildings in most people's heads in general strike as Godzilla and that's very much solidified in most people's minds pretty much but not his blast. There's also many people who grew up watching the '98 Godzilla so there's that too.
