by chance so you know that awesome guy that said dumbledores got style? That wizard is Kingley Shacklebolt he dont have much say in books or in movies but he is ONE of the most POWerful wizards in the books he has more time than movies. He is known to take on 3 wizards at once. Even in Shacklebolt explained by someone he is one of the most skilled wizards. He actually saved Harry during that with Dumbledore it actually in book it was Marietta Chos friend that doublecrossed them and Shacklebolt silently edited her mind and help lie to the minstry to save Harry and let Dumbledore be the one that gets in trouble. Also Shacklebolt many times protects the muggle minister by himself. BEcause hes calm ... rarely gets mad. ANd he is VERY VERy good wizard hes my 2nd fav tho low air time and a little more mentioned in book. BUt keep a eye on the cool black wizard that is cool. He many said should be on there MORE he is funny, smart, VERY powerful. Just he gets shadowed. Hes my 2nd to Ron. Then Mr. Weasley is 3rd he dont get much time either but he loves muggles so. But keep a eye on him tho he barely in it. Look him up to learn more. He is more madass than in the movies. Or books.

Fun Fact: Remember the quote from the first movie? "The wand chooses the wizard, Harry." Neville hasn't always been good in casting even the simplest of spells. In this movie, he has gotten better through Dumbledore's Army. However in the books, it's explained that Neville has gotten a new wand. Previously he has been using his dad's old wand, which doesn't work well for Neville. So his magical talents all these years has been suppressed by using the wrong wand. Which explains why his favourite (and top performing) subject is Herbology since he doesn't need to use a wand.

That also explains Ron's wand. Before it broke in the second year it was his brother Charlie's. In the first book Ron explains that he gets his brother's hand me downs. Percy's old rat, Bill's old robes and Charlie's old wand. This was because his family wasn't too wealthy.

You’re not allocated one wand for the rest of your life, lol! Many probably do go their whole lives with the same wand but accidents do happen. Why Charlie got a new one and gave Ron his old one is never touched on. As for Neville, even his own grandmother never had any confidence in him so why should he? Also, she forced her son’s wand on him (his dad’s) in a veiled attempt at molding him into a carbon copy and then belittling him when he’s not as talented due to the wand not choosing him at his poor self confidence. As for the archway, that’s the Veil of Death. The voices Harry and Luna hear are the Departed. It’s not really expanded on in the film. In the book Belletrix hits Sirius with a stunning spell (Stupefy) and he falls back through the Veil and to his death. Because no information is given in the film they have her hit him with the killing curse (Avada Kedavra) since we know IT kills. Unfortunately, Sirius doesn’t drop to the ground dead, as he should after being hit with it, but stumbles towards the Arch and is pulled in (away). Truthfully, as the books got thicker the films suffered for not being able to really due them justice. So many subplots are left out in place of flashy movie hoopla. For instance: you guys mention Moody’s staff; but in the books there are no staffs (unless they help you walk, I.e. cane) that do magic like Gandalf’s. Just wands. I would really love to see hbomax redo “Harry Potter” as a episodic show with each season being a year at Hogwarts. For the shorter books, fewer episodes and more eps for the thicker ones.

Neville’s parents aren’t dead. The torture they endured left them as patients in a magical “insane” hospital. Like with so much, just stuff from the books that they didn’t squeeze into the films.

Neville's parents didn't die. They were tortured into insanity by Bellatrix, her husband, her brother-in-law, and Barty Crouch, Jr. for information on Voldy's whereabouts after he killed Harry's parents and they became permanently incapacitated. They are permanently confined to a public ward and Neville and his grandmother visit them during Christmas but they barely recognize them.

Not sure if anyone told you, but the twins are closer to Harry now because he gave them his prize money from the Tri-Wizard tournament so they could develop magical items to sell (this bit got left out of the movies; Harry didn’t want any reward because of how it all turned out). Also, Kreacher’s “mistress” is Sirius’ mother. Kreacher’s obedience remains with whomever is in that family.

In the books, the Dementors's attack turned out to be a major character change for Dudley. Though a Dementor attack typically forced a person to re-live the worst moments of their life, Dudley's life-so-far of luxury and greed contained no "worst moments," and therefore, during the attack, Dudley saw himself the way he truly was: a spoiled, rotten and cruel bully. He was thus forced, rather harshly, to realise he needed to change his ways. This led to him regretting his treatment of Harry, and from then on, became the only Dursley family member to treat Harry with kindness. When Harry was in his room after yet another fight with his uncle and aunt, Dudley put a cup of tea in his door, and when Harry opened the door, he stepped on it by accident, and thought it was another prank by Dudley, but it was a genuine act of kindness from Dudley.

I think my favourite Scene is Minerva comforting Sybill as she was thrown out. In the books it was made very clear that Minerva doesn't respect divination in any way, and she was always hyper critical of and disliked Trelawney. Her actually standing up for Sybill is so amazing to see.

When Harry saw Arthur (Ron's dad) being tortured by Nagini, everyone started realizing that Harry's mind was connected to Voldemort's. After the holidays, Ginny confronts Harry and asks him why has he been hiding from everyone. When Harry tells her that she doesn't understand, she calls him out and says "Well that's a bit stupid of you, seeing how you don't know anyone but me who's been possessed by You-Know-Who before. I know how it feels" I really wish they kept this convo because Ginny started to get a lot more attention in the 5th book and although it's not mentioned in the film, her and Ron joined the quidditch team at the end of the fifth book.

46:06 The archway is called the "veil" and it is like a physical representation or structure of the barrier between life and death. Both Harry and Luna can hear voices coming from it which may be because they have seen death (like with the thestrals). If you walk through it you'll die. Apparently communication between the dead and the living may be possible through it, however it takes a while and the living can become entranced by it - which seems a bit unhealthy - and may try to walk into it. It reminds me of the mirror of Erised and how getting transfixed on a something might cause you to waste your life away hoping for something impossible. but thats just me.

So either they built the ministry around the Veil or it was brought there/built when the ministry was made. And the room that the Veil is in is called the "Death Chamber"... creepy

Sirius' life was just so tragic. He comes from a family of racists who he hates. He goes to hogwarts and he's a Gryffindor while his family were all Slytherins. He gets disowned at age 16 finally and he moves in with his best friend. Then they leave school and he joins a losing war against Voldemort. His best friend gets married, has a kid and is then murdered. He tries to avenge him but is sent to prison for the murder. Then he escapes but isn't able to clear his name. When his name is about to be cleared, he dies without spending any real time with his godson.

4 Fun facts for you from the books up till this movie (SPOILER FREE!): 1) If you're wondering where Dobby is, he currently works in the Hogwarts Kitchen as a free elf. House elves never usually get paid, but because Dobby is a free elf, Dumbledore offered him ten galleons a week with weekends off. Though Dobby wanted to be paid, it was never about the money, so he declined Dumbledore's offer and asked for only one galleon a week :) An extra fun fact: It's actually the house elves preparing all the food you see at Hogwarts. 2) Fred and George appearing out of nowhere is called ''Apparition'' in the wizarding world. In order to Apparate, you must first pass a test. Think of it as a driver's license. 17 is when you come of age in HP. The twins, now 17, got theirs right away. You're going to see a lot more Apparition from now on :) It is the most common means of transport among adults, other then Portkeys and Floo Network (green fire). 3) The Twins have been developing their products for some time now, with the aim of starting their own joke shop. Harry didn't want his Triwizard winnings anyway, so he gave them to the twins for their business, asking them to also buy Ron some new dress robes (so he could get rid of the one he wore to the Yule Ball in the last movie) :) 4) Dumbledore is concerned about Voldemort making allies with Dementors and giants like he did the last time he rose to power, which is why he tried to convince Fudge to rid Azkaban of Dementor control at the end of Goblet of Fire. But Fudge was stubborn and insisted Azkaban was safe because Dementors were guarding it, which led to the massive breakout you saw in this movie. Dumbledore also sent Hagrid and Madame Maxime (the tall headmistress of Beauxbatons) to negotiate with the giants, but it didn't pay off due to some complications. Voldemort had also sent his Death Eaters around the same time and they managed to establish a better relationship with the giants.

Part of why Neville has such a hard time with spells that is never covered in the movies is that the wand he is using isn't his own its his fathers old wand, after this ministry fight he finally gets his own and starts improving in his ability to do spells

Some Fun Facts: Professor Trelawney is the one who made the prophecy Harry heard in the orb thing in the minestry. That`s why Dumbledore was`nt allowing Umbridge to banish her from the Hogwarts grounds (she would be hunt down by the death eaters so they can get the informations from her). In the books there is also a part in which Dumbledore explains the hole prophecy to Harry in his office. It is a bit longer than the part you guys heard in the movie: "The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches... born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies... and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not... and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives... the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord will be born as the seventh month dies...." what is so fun about that chapter in the book is that dumbledore tells Harry that the boy in the prophecy also could have been Neville!! He is also born at the end of july and his parents fought 3 times against Voldemort before being tortured by Bellatrix into insanity (they are still alive but sadly dont really recognize Neville when he visits them with his grandmother in the Hospital). Only by choosing the Potters and not the Longbottoms Voldemort made the prophecy relevant by marking Harry as his equal by giving him the scar. I think that gives a nice nuanced touch to the hole "prophecies in fantasy-novels" trope. Sorry for spelling mistakes. english is not my mother tounge :D

Kreacher belonged to Sirius' family and he idolized Sirius' mother. There is way more to the rivalry between Harry's dad and Snape. They hated each other and neither one missed an opportunity to hex the other. Also, Snape was into the dark arts and hanging out with other future deatheaters even as a kid. He didn't try to teach Harry occlumency so much as take his anger out on his dead rival's CHILD.

@@penniegwin1320 Nigel isn't in the books. My mistake. I was thinking of Dennis Creevey. They created Nigel's character for the movies. Speculation is that the actor who played Colin Creevey in COS had physically grown too big for the book description where he was still described as being small in the 7th book. The movies introduced Nigel as a replacement somewhat a cross between Colin and his brother Dennis. Unfortunately, that actor no longer looked the part either by the 8th movie so he was also cut.

In the movies, it looks like Dumbledore was struggling to go against Voldemort, but in the books he was protecting Harry with a giant statue and checking on him while using other statues to deflect Voldemort's spells

Exactly. And harry kept trying to help and so dumbledore kept having to redirect some of his energy to keep harry out of it. Also, bellatrix was trapped under a statue (that dumbledore was controlling) until the very end. So he was multitasking hard core.

The archway is actually a mystery in the books and designed to be sort of an unsolved mystery. Basically the Department Of Mystery is a department within the ministry where people in charge research on magic (eg. origin of magic, ancient magics and such). There are multiple rooms which Harry and his team went through during their escape from the Death Eaters. The rooms we know of is the prophecy room (where all prophecies are recorded), time room (where time turners are made and time magic is research), astrology room (a room with planets, unsure of its functions), brain-creature room (holds a creature that looks like brain), love room (a locked room that said to hold the ancient magic of love) and this archway room, also known as the Veil. I believe they veil is a gateway between life and death, and wizards research on death and after death using the veil. It also has a luring ability, luring people to cross in the the land of dead. Also random facts about wizard paintings. It seems that paintings needs to be enchanted in order to move. Dean Thomas, a Gryffindor is a Muggle-born and excellent artist, only made simple movement art. However, it seems like the stronger the enhancements, the more utility the artwork can do (like the Fat Lady being a doorkeeper). Paintings also need to be in connection with another painting for them to travel through one another. It is believed that all Hogwarts artworks are all connected so the art can move between them relatively easy. This is part of Hogwarts security measure as the artwork act as eyes but also as intel, passing information quickly all over the castle. Some artwork can even move into another painting in a completely different building so long as the two paintings are connected

You see, for the past 3 movies and books, Harry's scar always hurts every time Voldemort was near. And during the 4th movie and book his scar has been hurting Sporadically from August to June, when Voldemort was growing stronger and now his scar hurts when Voldemort is feeling a particularly powerful emotion, and now has a direct insight into Voldemort's mind.

I mean Umbridge wasn't ever described as specifically ugly. Being called a toad isn't really that big of an insult, as they are kinda cute. It was more about her wide grin, dead eyes and black bows looking like flies. But also - people weren't wrong, her performance as Umbridge is probably one of the best acting in whole series, including Helena as Bellatrix.

archway explanation: in the book they get lost in the department of mysteries for a while before finding the prophecy and go in a bunch of different weird rooms (the archway room being one of them). but basically each room deals with a different elemental mystery of life (time, love, imagination) and the archway room is death. that is why only harry and luna can hear the voices behind the curtain. in the book sirius' death happens pretty much exactly how it does in the movie, they just leave out all that context. also re: the media in this movie, something they left out that is kinda a big thing in the books is another magazine called the quibbler. luna's dad is the editor and everyone thinks it's a tabloid that is full of made up shit. in the 4th book (this is not in the movie) during the triwizard tournament a bunch of unflattering gossip about harry, hermione and the other contestants keeps getting leaked to the daily prophet and hermione figures out that it's rita skeeter illegally transforming herself into a bug and spying on people. so she basically blackmails her into never writing for the daily prophet again. in the 5th book hermione sets up an interview between harry and rita to be published in the quibbler. harry agrees to it to tell his side of the story and rita does it to salvage her career and bc hermione blackmailed her. the interview coming out makes a ton of people in the wizarding world change their minds and believe harry again.

In the book, Bellatrix simply blasts Sirius through the Veil (the archway) with an unspecified spell. The spell Bellatrix uses is red-colored, so it's not the Killing Curse ( _Avada Kedavra_ ...which is always a jet of green light). The Veil is a 1-way portal to the afterlife so this results in Sirius' death. In the film, Bellatrix hits Sirius with _Avada Kedavra_ and the Veil seems to (inexplicably) suck his body in.

I think this is one of the hardest films to watch and the most frustrating of the HP books to read, because NO ONE is telling Harry anything, and it drove me nuts! Their lack of communication seemed to put him in even more danger. He needs to know what's going on! Between that, Harry's (understandable) teenage anger, and the sadistic Umbridge... I wanted to scream. And yes, Umbridge is the WORST. She's evil wrapped up in a flowery pink bow. At least Voldemort is evil and you know it. Umbridge thinks she's doing something honorable, which is really twisted.

I love that you commented on what little was seen of Snape's back story-- there's obviously a lot more there, but its such a small but important detail for his character and so few people discuss it. I do wish they'd had included the bit about Sirius tricking him to go after Lupin on a night he became a werewolf and nearly got him killed to provide a bit more reason as to why Snape would also dislike Sirius and Lupin so much as well as James-- I always just assume its because that detail makes Sirius look pretty bad. but yeah, as you said its really pointing out bad decisions and bullying as kids, in Snape's case there was a lot more going on and he just couldn't get passed it and remains bitter due to it.

And it's only produced when one truly means it, like the rest of the unforgivable curses, which is why when Harry tried the crucio on Bellatrix it didn't work as a torture but a normal stun.

3:15 Fun fact: Dursleys actually wanted to kick Harry out, but Petunia got a letter from Dumbledore reminding her of his last letter to them. Harry was also told that at no reason should leave the house - as in books he was about to run, so he wouldn't lose his wand. 3:30 Also Dementors weren't supposed to be there, unless Voldemort or Ministry official send them there. Which actually was the latter, as in Umbridge does reveal it was her who wanted Harry down (Voldemort would never unlive Harry in such petty way). 3:50 Unfortunately no one believed him - he saw more than just Lucius, he saw all Death Eaters and heard their names (including Crabbe and Goyle's fathers and other important people still working at the Ministry). 6:00 I mean you saw it - an elevator in old phone booth. They were almost normal elevators though, difference being some of them moved sideways as well. 7:00 The lady who was considering Harry as innocent - Mrs. Bones was actually an aunt of a Hufflepuff girl we only saw in first movie but who actually was kinda common student we saw in books (she was the only other non main character we saw getting sorted). 7:35 This scene I believe actually happened at headquarters and with real Moody. Which was also like first proper bonding moment between him and Harry. Sirius only got some scenes throughout Harry's time at his house, including the tapestry scene. 7:50 We also meet Longbottoms in this part, when we go visit Mr. Weasley in hospital after snake attack. We also meet Lockhart again and meet Neville and his grandma visiting his parents. Which was like the most important scene from Neville they should have included. 9:40 They kinda push over it in movies, but both teacher announcements had big implications. Grubbly-Plank replaced Hagrid, until he came back, which kinda was building up for the whole story of Hagrid bringing his brother and telling the story of how he talked to giants with Madame Maxim. 9:55 A good thing movie did and really nice fun fact - the more evil Umbridge gets - more pink her clothes become. 10:55 Nah they always pitched it as visions of Voldi's life. Like with the beginning of fourth book - he saw scenes of Voldemort unliving and punishing people. If it wasn't a children book, he would probably also see Voldemort bone Bellatrix, but well - that's a different story and not everyone consider Cursed Child as canon. 11:35 She plays her soo well. 12:00 It's also fun to see how much the DADA classroom changes throughout the movies. In books they actually always mentioned how much it changed for every single teacher - which is kinda sad, that we didn't see adapted version of Snape's classroom in Halfblood Prince. 12:25 Same goes for DADA teacher's room. 12:55 Other thing they kinda cut out of the movies were original party at headquarters when Ron and Hermione learned they will be Prefects and most of the work they had to do at school, because of it - including Hermione going full on ballistic at twins for testing drugs on first years. 13:20 Most of this movie wouldn't have happened, if Harry wasn't a pussy and actually ratted out on Umbridge torturing and permanently scarring students. 13:35 Luna similar to Neville - got some extra scenes from other characters in place of her original ones. It was Hagrid who taught the class about Thestrals - and Umbridge was actually visiting his class, basically going full on racist against him (they showed her racism in movie-only scene of her checking Flitwick's height). Talking about Hagrid - they actually also kicked him out, like Trelawney. In fact it was during Astronomy OWL test at night after Dumbledore was already out of the castle. Umbridge send like 5 ministry aurors to take Hagrid out, and when McGonagall tried to stop them, she was blasted with 5 spells into her heart - which put her into hospital for weeks (that's why they couldn't contact her about Sirius situation, so she could check if it was real emergency and not fake vision, which ultimately they still should have done with Snape, but yeah). 14:45 Umbridge visiting teachers was actually so much more fun in books as we actually see or hear about most of them. Especially Snape and McGonagall's were most fun. 15:10 I said it before - but I will say it again. All Trelawney's prophecies became real in the end, even this clearly fake one. As it did come to fruition at the end of the book with Umbridge getting kidnapped by centaurs, who did who knows what to her. Also fun fact - in books Umbridge already was thinking about replacing Trelawney by one of her own lackeys, but in books Dumbledore actually brought Firenzo (centaur from first book who saved Harry) to teach divination, making her livid. 16:50 In books actually we don't see Aberforth face as he was usually hiding it, because of his close resemblance to his brother. Also there were some criminals in the bar, at the time, who later on snitched on Harry and group (that's why Umbridge disbanded all school groups). Also unfortunately they did replace the actor for Aberforth, when he actually became a relevant character (also happened to Lavender Brown - who originally was played by black actress, which would be more fun in my opinion, as it would kinda point at Ron being into black girls - considering that in Cursed Child Hermione is played by black actress as well). 17:00 It was also Susan Bones - the girl I mentioned before who talked about patronus - as she heard it from her aunt. Also in this scene - Hermione actually made all people to write their names on a piece of paper, which she cursed, so a traitor would get word sneak painted with unremovable pimples/boils on their face (which happened to Cho Chang's friend, who did it in books, but was removed from movie as she wasn't really that needed). 17:20 Sad thing about movies - the Nigel kid is only movie character who replaced Colin Creevey - whose actor just hit puberty too fast and too hard to be the young kid he was supposed to be. Which I still think they should have included and just give the scenes to his brother Dennis instead. 17:40 Wands choose the wizard - which is why Ron and Neville were so bad at spells originally. Only after this movie Neville gets new wand, which extremely helps him with his spells. 18:00 Yeah - it should have been him, but unfortunately it isn't in movie canon. 20:40 Wish they included Harry puking and being a hot mess tbh. Also in books they all moved to headquarters, immediately - and Harry started learning Occlumency after the winter break. 22:30 I think they really should have expanded on this scene, Sirius being Draco's uncle and Draco being cousins with Tonks as well. Also I wish they didn't cut out Andromeda out of seventh movie as well as she looked so similar to Bellatrix. 23:00 I mean believing rule34, Umbridge got it hard... 24:40 Im glad that they didn't cut Percy fully out of the movies but kept him in the background, as in books he actually was fully with Ministry trying to make Ron break up with Harry. 26:00 In books Hogwarts takeover was much on bigger scale. People bought a lot of stuff from twins, so most corridors were constantly messed up and flooded with explosives, pranks and magical marshes. With teachers refusing to help Umbridge or even specifically helping with the pranks. Like there is really good scene were McGonagall tells to Peeves (school's Poltergeist that was fully cut out of the movies) that certain chandelier is actually unscrewed in other direction. 26:50 In movie McGonagall and Snape were still at school. Snape in books - which was kinda stupid on their part, that they forgot about him until they meet him at Umbridge's. 27:45 In books Dumbledore personally had to go to get her back. 28:10 Fun fact - Neville also could have been part of this prophecy, but Voldemort choose Harry instead. 28:20 In books we learn that both Dumbledore and Snape heard the prophecy - the latter eavesdropping. In fact Snape only heard half of it and was the one who told Voldemort about it, basically putting the target on Potters. 35:00 Kinda wish that they would always start and end with Dursleys like in books especially in next movie they literally replaced one of the funniest scenes of Dumbledore sitting with Dursleys in living room with non-canon romance filler.

I love love love love the end of this movie. All the fact that voldemort could NEVER understand the power of love the magic of love and when he is inside Harry and Harry start to remember all his happy moments besides the pain and gain the strength to fight he is full of love and Voldemort could not bare the feeling. He get out of harry and instead of just Harry fighting the mind connection between them, Voldemort starts to do it too because he can’t bare be inside harry and his mind. The power of love in Harry is too strong besides everything he faced. This series is a masterpiece and have a great amazing way to tell a love story that isn’t just about a couple but about family and friendship as well

Fun fact:- The prophecy as a whole states that the parents of the child who has the power to defeat the dark lord would have decieved the lord three times which not only was done by the Harry's parents but also by Neville's parents but Voldmort thought as Harry's parents were much stronger he went after them.

In some ways Umbridge was right when it came to teaching. She 100% was not a great teacher, but if you consider their former teachers: Querell was hosting Voldemort, Lockhart was a quack, Lupin had to take vacations away when there was a full moon, Moody was being impersonated by a Death Eater. They also had OWLS that year to test their competency in subjects, and while they learned some interesting spells, they likely didn’t have the basic foundations at that point. I think out of everything she did, her trying to teach the basics was something that was needed.

It's strongly insinuated in the books what the centaurs do to Umbridge after dragging her away. In lore, centaurs were notorious for dragging away maidens and raping them. It's mentioned that she flinches violently at the sounds of hooves after this.

Great reaction! Just a bit of info about Umbridge, she's considered one of the best written villans of all time... and even Stephen King praised JK's portrayal of her. Scary how there are real people in the world who are just like her.

When Umbridge at Harry's detention tells him "deep down you know that you deserve to be punished" that is classic abuser psychological stuff - abuse a child and make them think that they deserve it and the abuse is their own fault. (Belittling the victim and making them feel worthless is another). Very dark stuff

In the books one of the rewards for winning the triwizard cup was 10,000 gallions. But Harry didn't need the money and cause cedric died he did not want to keep it. But Harry knew the twins wanted to make a joke shop. With the condition that they buy Ron a new set of dress robes...

Not sure if anyone has said this yet, but Dolores Umbridge is a half-blood wizard who only cared about power and valued it over her family, to the point she even lied about being part of the Pure Blood Selwyn Family. Unsurprisingly she was sorted into Slytherin during her time at Hogwarts.
