This film gives me SO MUCH nostalgia. Saw it when I was a little kid and I absolutely adored this movie, plus the legend Robin Williams stars in it, he’s amazing. My great uncle was close friends with Jim Varney who I got to meet, and he’s also a legend (in my eyes) and I always remember him telling me stories of him and Robin Williams messing around being silly. So much nostalgia and memories of my childhood just thinking of this film and RW.

I’ve seen this movie several times with several people and watched several reaction videos. I saw it when it was released. You are the 1st to recognize his father was Van Pelt. I didn’t know until 20 years later. Great reaction. 👏👏😊🥰
@bigdream_dreambig
@bigdream_dreambig Жыл бұрын
The game riddle makes it pretty obvious that it'll be his father, but most first-time watchers are too distracted by all the ruckus to catch that, and then the actor isn't one who's well known enough for people to recognize him "on his own merits" in both parts, so most people don't realize until a rewatch when they're more calm and can pay more attention to the game clues.
@Cheepchipsable
@Cheepchipsable Жыл бұрын
@@bigdream_dreambig Game doesn't make it obvious it his father, it says something like someone who will make you, "feel just like like a child". I would have thought Peter might have put the face to the hunter, (perhaps different for each person who got that outcome). Seems like it could have been any kind of authority figure from that persons past, (teacher, etc), except they were a hunter. I just thought it was a bit of a gag they used the same actor as the father, (easily recognisable I thought. 🤷‍♂) No indication the hunter thought Peter was his son.

[39:44] _"i didn't expected it to end like this (...) doesn't make a lot of sense"_ It's because it's said in the rules of the game that they gotta finish it in order to everything go back to normal/what it was. They didn't start to play in 96', Judy and Peter were only added to the game *Alan and Sarah started in the 70's.* That way, when they finish, the game went back in time to reverse everything it affected, with Alan and Sarah as children the night they started the game. _Hope it makes sense now!_ 🫂💗

And on to Jumanji '2' and '3'. (Welcome to the Jungle/Next Level) Sortoff a reboot but technically a sequel. But I was very pleasantly suprised how good/fun they were. Some extra info; Jumanji is based on a book. The book has a sequel too. Of which is also a movie but its not done not connected to the first movie. Much less known.

Zathura: A Space Adventure (2005) is a sci-fi version of Jumanji style adventure. The whole thing that happened was all part of the game. Once the game is over reality continues from where it left off before the game thus it was for those playing the game like a reset.

Technically the next film in the franchise, being an adaptation of the second book by the author of the original book of Jumanji. Same basic plot, different characters, different game, different setting.

I think when Allen and Sarah argue about the past 20 years. I dont think she is trying to compare her suffering, but to empathize with the young girl she once was. She isnt defending herself. She is defending the young girl that saw her friend get sucked into a boardgame, get chased by bats and have no one believe her.

I must say I cried like I haven't in a very long time. When I heard Robin Williams had died. This man was like for all of us a massive part of not just my childhood but my life as well. I loved everything that he ever did. Even the times when he wasn't at his best. I couldn't stop laughing or learning from this man. That seemed to be fearless in anything he was doing. Just slam down on the accselrator and go balls to the wall. But always be just as determined to be appreciative to everyone else around you. That is what I have taken away from Robin Williams. For his life was a full one and it was certainly worth living. Man oh man, did he live it up.

17:06, the Clampetts were the family in the TV series The Beverly Hillbillies. You wonder if the kids who played the game went back to the point they started the game and continued their lives with their aunt, which would mean a different time line, since their lives were altered by their parents not dying, and they would have never played the game.

Jumanji is definitely a childhood favorite of mine. I agree, the cop was hilarious. I think what made him most famous was the sketch comedy show “In Living Color” from 90-94. Btw the last name is pronounced Greer. I am always down for more Robin Williams and I think an underrated classic that’s also from the 90’s is Hook. Highly recommend.

Great reaction to a wonderful movie! And the follow-up movie is very good (which I did not expect. I only saw it because the kids I was babysitting for one night were watching it, and I ended up liking it as much as they did) and it is a sequel and not a remake, thank goodness, because no one can replace Robin Williams. Van Pelt returns as the villain (which always amused me since the only Van Pelts I had ever heard of before were Lucy and Linus in the Peanuts/Charlie Brown comic strip) played by a different actor but even more creepily. Robin Williams was such a brilliant actor, and as awesome as he was a comedian it was so good to see him do more and more touching and deep roles, such as in What Dreams May Come, The Fisher King, Dead Poets Society, and Awakenings.

The cg wasn't good even back then. You can find interviews with the people that made it, and they talk about how crappy the monkeys looked, and why, while the lion looks pretty great. Basically, the monkeys were in a whole bunch of different lighting conditions, making it really difficult to adapt to each one with the time they had, whereas with the lion, they had a real world reference with the animatronic (which is insanely helpful for cg artists)

Now I'm wondering if, when you were 12 years old, you looked like she did in this film. 😄 She was also good in the 1994 version of "Little Women" which came out a few months before "Jumanji." 👦 As for Robin Williams, two of his best performances were as cartoon voices. Of course, the Genie in "Aladdin" (1992) and as the character Fender in "Robots" (2005). Both extremely entertaining animated features.

The 2 sequels are surprisingly good too. They won't become classics but they follow the same concept in a different form that makes sense and, most importantly, it's not disrespectful to the original movie (something that often happens in modern movies and tv shows). The second sequel (the third movie) is a bit lazy because it doesn't add anything new to the whole series and the plot is pretty much the same as the previous movie with a couple of new characters and different comical situations. I think they were planning to make a third sequel but I don't know if it was ever produced.

It's a representation of Alan's issues with his father and his expectation of gaining "sophisticated masculinity". @lionhead123 Well considering his father is dead, and how literal things need to be for people these days in media (cause they only look for "tangible" connections to flesh out the "lore", and ignore story telling in favor of it), you'll forgive me if I took you saying "ghost" as the actual ghost of his father haunting him in the game.

I remember people where this was filmed, loved seeing the skid marks before the sir-save-a-lot until the lot was repaved just before the new millennium.

I had to check out David Alan Grier's situation when you pointed out you saw a picture of him in a MAGA hat on Google Images. Thankfully it was from a sketch he and his team did for his show. He is definitely not on Team Trump (*whew*). But another wonderful reaction, Evie. Thank you!

I'm in the ignore any remake crowd and deny it exists 😂 Jonathan Hyde plays Sam Parrish and Van Pelt, which I think was a great choice because of the subtext around Alan facing his fears

It's not a remake. It's a very fun sequel

The 2 newer films are most definitely not remakes or re-imaginings. They are continuation and evolution of Jumanji, though not a direct continuation. Basically, the story is about Jumanji and how you interact with Jumanji and not the people involved from this move to the next.
