Scheduling the soviets before the olympics was absolutely brilliant!! When they play them again in the olympics, there is no surprises.. the team knows how fast they played, how physical they were.. there is no adjustment period to figure things out...absolutely brilliant!

My understanding is that part of Brooks’ reason for doing that was to make the Soviets overconfident. He told the team before the exhibition game to “just have fun”. He wanted them to get blown out just in case they got to play them for real.

Great reaction. Just subbed, and wanted to suggest another great true Olympic story called "Without Limits" from 1994 I believe, it's about Steve Prefontaine. Amazing life and movie

The speech was given word for word true to Herb's actual speech. People forget the next game won the gold and the best Herb quote came from the speech during the second intermission when the US was down 2-1, he walked in to the locker room and said "If you lose this game, you'll take it to your graves." Then paused, took a few steps, turned around and said, "Your fucking graves," and walked out.

That is so good. The man of few words but so powerful. Time to watch it again 🤣

Everybody says that Kurt Russell nailed Herb Brooks' character. The movie was very accurate to reality. To this day there are only two USA Olympic hockey teams to win gold, 1960 & 1980.

I personally only seen a little bit of the real Herb Brooks, but Kurt’s portrayal was so believable i felt like it wasn’t him at all anymore lol

Jimmy Craig had 39 saves in that game.

Craig wanted to be kicked off the team so he can go to pro hockey and support his dad who Just lost his job. Herb brooks took out a personal loan to give to the dad. He said a kid giving a chance to play for his country to support his family is the kid he wants.

Actually, Al Micheals went into the recording booth to record the play by play for the movie. The call he made at the end "Do you believe in miracles? Yes!" was from the original.

Rizo's go ahead goal was actually a wrist shot, not a slap shot.
