Hi Ashleigh! Yes, the kids _did_ all play their own instruments--they were specifically selected because they could! Also fun fact, in the scene when Miranda Cosgrove auditioned as a singer, she had to be taught how to sing badly as she's actually a good singer IRL. Glad you enjoyed this movie!

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit agreed with Netflix that Babin's prosecution was carried out in bad faith with the intent to harass Netflix, including presenting only selective portions of the film as evidence to the grand jury.[11] According to Variety, commentators have suggested that the suit stands to boost Babin's political standing to prepare for a run for higher office.[12]" It's ironic that a movie intended to criticise the hypersexualisation of pre-adolescent girls got into trouble in a country with literal beauty pageants for little children.

_School of Rock_ is EASILY my favorite Jack Black movie of all time. The way that Dewey is able to help the students harness their talent in playing Rock n' Roll is so influential. This movie was one of the many reasons I'm a drummer. Sadly, Kevin Clark (Freddy "Spazzy McGee" Jones) died in a cyclist accident back in 2021 at the age of 32, the same age as drummer Keith Moon of _The Who_ who died in 1978. I've seen all three iterations of this movie: The movie (of course), the Nickelodeon TV show (which confusedly had pop music instead of genuine rock music), and the Broadway show when it was on tour (I actually bought a pair of drumsticks from the gift booth, and I still have them with me to this day). Random facts about the Broadway iteration: The kids in the show are true QUADRUPLE threats: They sing, dance, act, AND PLAY THEIR INSTRUMENTS LIVE! The music in the show was composed by _The Phantom of the Opera_ composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, and lyrics were written by _Sister Act_ lyricist Glenn Slater.

Not only can these kids all really play, but the boy who played zach had to teach Jack Black Electric guitar, because he was so used to playing acoustic ☺

I feel like "Working Girl" is going to need to be a must see for Ashleigh. Joan Cusack was hilarious! And the HAIR in the 80s was WILD! 😂

OMG YES!!!! One of my favorite movies of all time growing up! I’ve seen this movie so many times I know this movie by heart line from line. My fav Jack Black film and my fav Richard Linklater film. The soundtrack slaps!!!! Also RIP Freddy 🙏

Hey Ashleigh, you actually have seen Jack Black in a movie on the channel. It was Mars Attacks. Jack Black was the gun-ho military son in that movie. Also, Jack Nicholson was in the same film if you wanted to compare their faces!

His roommate Ned is Mike White creator and writer of White Lotus on HBO. He also wrote this movie. Richard Linklater directed it. He is known for Dazed and Confused and Slacker.

That performance at the end as all the kids get their moment on stage makes me tear up every time. It's a testament to how an education in the arts equip kids with all sorts of life skills, not the least of which are a sense of community, teamwork and self esteem. ❤❤❤

Jack Black is truly one of a kind. You should see him in "Bernie" with Shirley MacLaine. He does a dramatic turn that will blow your mind.

I would recommend you watching "The Holiday" with Cameron Diaz, you can appreciate Jack Black in a different role with different energy, but still musical.
@michellebarry1555Ай бұрын
Did you see The Holiday or Tropic Thunder? Or Jumanji 2? Jack was in those.

I went to a school like this one and it was horrible! Terrible uniforms and I was one of no more than ten people of color in the whole school. My parents actually admitted to me later on in life that they regretted sending me there, and the main reason I went there was because of safety issues. Keep in mind this was in Detroit in the mid 90’s.

Miranda Cosgrove is actually an excellent singer. The fact that they made it seem like she sucks in the movie is brilliant.
@JeffKelly03Ай бұрын
I read the oral history of this movie a little while back, and she was quoted in there saying how much it killed her to have to try to sing poorly, because as you said, she's a fantastic singer.

I am SO GLAD this movie has become a real cult classic with time because this film is so underrated. As a metalhead this movie does my heart good.

Be Kind, Rewind is a safe Jack Black film. Very heart warming. Mos Def is great in it too.
You brought me so much joy with this one girl. My mom just got diagnosed with cancer and I can’t put into words what you’ve done for me.

"I love Joan Cusack" We know that she also loves Steve Martin, as well as Rick Moranis. "My Blue Heaven" (1990) is a MUST-SEE!! Patreon members: Please get this on a poll and vote it to the top! (While we're at it, Steve Martin and Lily Tomlin- who we know Ashleigh loves- are stellar in "All of Me," (1984), so let's get that ball rolling as well, huh?)

Jack Black also starred in Shallow Hal, was the voice for Po in Kung Fu Panda, and I think he had a supporting role in Bruce Willis' movie The Jackyl.
