Hi Ashleigh! Yes, the kids _did_ all play their own instruments--they were specifically selected because they could! Also fun fact, in the scene when Miranda Cosgrove auditioned as a singer, she had to be taught how to sing badly as she's actually a good singer IRL. Glad you enjoyed this movie!

So many icons in this film. Among others, you have Mayhrenate as Tomika, Jess Bess drummer Kevin Clark (rest his soul) as Freddy and Badd Raquette lead guitarist Joey Gaydos Jr. as Zack. Googled that and you're right! Got into some controversy too, according to Wikipedia: "As district attorney, Babin indicted Netflix for allegedly distributing lewd content through the release of Cuties (2020), which garnered controversy over its depiction of pre-adolescent girls. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit agreed with Netflix that Babin's prosecution was carried out in bad faith with the intent to harass Netflix, including presenting only selective portions of the film as evidence to the grand jury.[11] According to Variety, commentators have suggested that the suit stands to boost Babin's political standing to prepare for a run for higher office.[12]" It's ironic that a movie intended to criticise the hypersexualisation of pre-adolescent girls got into trouble in a country with literal beauty pageants for little children.

_School of Rock_ is EASILY my favorite Jack Black movie of all time. The way that Dewey is able to help the students harness their talent in playing Rock n' Roll is so influential. This movie was one of the many reasons I'm a drummer. Sadly, Kevin Clark (Freddy "Spazzy McGee" Jones) died in a cyclist accident back in 2021 at the age of 32, the same age as drummer Keith Moon of _The Who_ who died in 1978. I've seen all three iterations of this movie: The movie (of course), the Nickelodeon TV show (which confusedly had pop music instead of genuine rock music), and the Broadway show when it was on tour (I actually bought a pair of drumsticks from the gift booth, and I still have them with me to this day). Random facts about the Broadway iteration: The kids in the show are true QUADRUPLE threats: They sing, dance, act, AND PLAY THEIR INSTRUMENTS LIVE! The music in the show was composed by _The Phantom of the Opera_ composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, and lyrics were written by _Sister Act_ lyricist Glenn Slater.

I HIGHLY recommend "My Blue Heaven" (1990) with Steve Martin, Rick Moranis, and Joan Cusack. It's really funny and very underrated. It doesn't get enough reactions, if any. You should absolutely react to this movie.

You have actually seen Jack Black before in “Mars Attacks”. He was the soldier whose gun fell apart during the initial alien attack. He also had a non speaking bit part as a ‘scrap’ in “Demolition Man”. It’s kind of a fun little game trying to find him in the crowd fight scene…

Honestly, I'd rather she watch the Tenacious D HBO episodes before "Pick of Destiny." So many reactors go into that movie having no idea of the Tenacious D backstory or any of the things from the episodes that pop up in the movie and they don't get it and then viewers are disappointed. Learn the story before watching the tribute movie.

So i totally agree Jack Black is a lot usually but a good Jack Black movie with a much more restrained with a surprisingly nuanced performance is Shallow Hal... very sweet movie, think you will like that one. By the way Jack Black's mother worked on the system that helped rescue the Apollo13 astronauts, a very smart lady. Jack has been tested at genius level as well.

First, try watching "The Holiday" for Christmas this year. Jack Black is totally "off brand" in that and his acting is amazing. He's 100% different than in this movie. Second, I met both John and Joan Cusak at a convention. John wasn't really 'there', but Joan? So funny and sweet and amazing. She held someone's baby and just cooed over it and she was super awesome. Got her autograph and didn't regret it at all. She's lovely IRL.
