Haramaki is a Japanese bellywarmer waistband Zoro is wearing. And yes! There are alot of references to real life famous Pirates. So Roronoa Zoro IS inspired by Mask of Zorro, AND François L'olonnais (sometimes written Lolonoa) a French pirate and Buccaneer. Oda, the creator, really does deep research, on history, pop culture, mythology, etc.

Yes "Gomu" means rubber in Japanese, so it should really be Rubber-Rubber Rocket lol but Gum is close enough and rubber can mean erasor or condoms in different countries so I they went with Gum-Gum. Yes, love your analysis with the nephilm and authoritarianism. On the surface, One Piece is like a fun, simple Looney Tunes-esque kid's show, but if you like going deep.... it gets DEEEEEP

Hell yeah! History and theory are two of my favorite aspects of entertainment. If One Piece has both?! Pffft, could easily see it becoming one of my favorite shows

I think you'll really really like One Piece 😁I've been a fan of the series for a whole decade, I'm all caught up in the anime episodes, I've rewatched a few hundred episodes here and there and also caught up in reading the manga... all I can say is I will be heartbroken in sadness and happiness when it eventually ends.

9:15 just a note, in the manga Luffy doesn't have a thought bubble, that's why whatever he thinks he immediately does it or says it. Also it's basically his head is empty most of the times😂

All the navy? Idk, if it’s anything like the US military, the bottom of the food chain is just doing their jobs and the further ip the ladder the more corruption. But I guess I’ll see in time 😬
