When a movie has been consistently ranked as one of the best films ever made since it came out, won multiple awards, launched and relaunched careers..it's not a "cult classic", it's a "classic" period
@horationelson18406 ай бұрын
No, it’s a cult classic. Classics are films made for general audiences. Star Wars, Jaws, Indiana Jones, Superman, Friday the 13th, etc. are all classics. Pulp Fiction, while loved by many people including me, is not something that is enjoyed by general audiences like classics are. Many people have watched this movie three or four times and simply don’t understand it at all. It’s also way too violent and vulgar for a lot of people. Like I said though it’s one of my favorite movies and I’ve seen it almost a dozen times. It’s definitely top 20 movies of all time in my book.
@maceomaceo116 ай бұрын
@horationelson1840 It grossed over 9 million its opening weekend, overtaking The Specialist as the number one film. It was the first Mirimax film to gross over 100 mil in the U.S. and the first one to gross over 200 worldwide. It was the 10th biggest grossing film of 1994. Cult classics (like Caddy Shack or Tombstone) find their audience after they've hit HBO or video release, not as top grossing films right out the gate. By your assessment The Godfather is a "cult classic", c'mon man.

The tape deck is a reel to reel system. They have exquisite fidelity and are still sometimes used for primary recordings in the music industry and often for scientific research recordings of audio, neurological signals, geologic and seismic recordings, radio astronomy, and many other analog data applications. Even lossless formats don't have all the detail of analog signals, and scientific grade reel to reel tape is still the most reliable analog format.

Mia snorted the heroin thinking it was cocaine, that´s the detoning to had the overdose (heroin can be snorted as well, but the most common way it´s like Vincent did, using a needle. Also Mia was full of drugs in that moment). And Vincent goes a lot to the bath, due to he´s an heroin addict, and that provokes you, sometimes, constipation. Even the shot to Marvin´s face, it´s due to heroin, that also provokes you spasms (in this case pulling the trigger).

One theory said it was diamonds from the Reservoir dogs heist but the co writer said that was too boring so they just never revealed it. Another is it's Tarantino paying ohmage to a 1955 film noir movie Kiss Me Deadly, where it was associated with hell.

Reel to reel tape players, or R2R's are still the preferred source for analog reproduction of audio. Although it is perhaps the most expensive and time consuming of all audio reproduction hobbies. You guys actually talk less than many solo reviewers, which was great to hear and watch. Although a lot of the 50's and 60's cultural references, such as Ed Sullivan as the host, Buddy Holly as their server, the "Douglas Sirk steak (a German director) and the "Amos and Andy or Martin and Lewis shake (chocolate or vanilla) just in the 60's themed restaurant alone went past you. Also, heroin is not meant to be snorted while cocaine is, and definitely not in the same amounts. Which is why she OD's. A nice reaction from you. Perhaps Quentin's other movies such as "Reservoir Dogs" and "The Hateful 8" would be good choices. Also doing the great western "Tombstone" should be on your list. But yes, certain scenes in this movie will forever be burned into your memory. The trope of the suitcase is an old Alfred Hitchcock invention call "The Macguffin" where an object is either talked about or displayed, but never fully seen.

Popular opinion is it’s Marcellus’s soul that he sold to the devil but was stolen back. So, many believe marcellus sold his soul to the devil (hence the wealth he acquired... but through illegal means). The bandage on the base of his neck and the timeframe of when the audience doesn't see his face, supposedly until his soul is in the possession of his men (vincent & jules) to reclaim it on his behalf. It’s called reel-reel tape player. An old school way of recording music and playback. I think it’s dope…

The bad language is what makes some of the best dialogue. Censoring it out makes this unwatchable. Not even going to waste my time.

28:00 Such an American thing to say and it is half true. I love it. It is true that Americans bring more to life than their name, but most also mean something. It's about being free of Europe and the past, Guns blazing Butch Cassidy style. But, they still refer to themselves this type of American, this type.. LOL They are all Americans, outsiders are the best to judge ;)

This is about as close as it gets to the movie watching experience I had with others when this was out in the theatre. I saw this several times when it came out, inviting new people knowing they would lose their shit. Others did the same.

06:30 Jules: "Check out the big brain on Brad!" Well, Jules and Vincent would get a good opportunity to examine, not Brad's, but Marvin's brain after the speed bump and they were on brain detail to clean the car. Jules used Marvin's brain as goddamn hair conditioner.

17:25 "That is not what I was expecting" Yeah, it is called the Twist for a reason. I realize now, explaining culture to young people is lost. I didn't grow up with this music, but I know it

They never say what's in the suitcase. There is a 1955 movie, Kiss Me Deadly, that had a glowing suitcase. That one held nuclear bomb parts. Repo Man had a glowing car trunk.
