From the UK, I was 12 years old when this concert took place & my parents couldn't afford tickets. All of those songs played belong to Queen, now look up Queen live in Montreal playing "somebody to love". It was great to see you dancing & enjoying the iconic Queen. Good for you 👍

So much fun seeing you appreciate Queen as much as us old folks do. And seeing you realize that you know more Queen than you thought you did. I was in college when this took place,and an avid rock fan. I had seen several iconic American bands in concert. Tom Petty, Simon and Garfunkle, Bruce Springfield. I thought I'd never see anything better than Bruce Springfield and his Band transport ppl to another dimension for three solid hours. I was already a casual Queen fan, but this day, this was the day that changed everything in my musical life. This was the 22 minutes that showed me what transcendent greatness looks like. In my mid 60s now, dozens and dozens of live concerts attended, a lifetime of loving all kinds of music, and if I had to show one thing to explain what music is all about, it would be this 20min.

I got tickets to a Queen +AL concert and told a co-worker how excited I was and she looked at me not understanding, "I don't know who Queen is" "yes you do, you just don't know that you know" "what???" I stomp-stomp clap a couple times, "We Will Rock You? That's Queen?" "Somebody had to write it." " And 'We are the Champions'?" "Yup, still Queen" "Wow, I guess I DO know Queen!"

In reality, almost 2 billion people watched this live worldwide. ❤ Over 70K at Wembley.
@roppa7893 ай бұрын
There was a potential audience live of 2 billion. Not everyone in Europe or even the UK watched it. The media often quote the audience as fact but they were never actually correct and in the 80s there was no way of knowing actual figures as they were estimated via sample questioning less than a 1000 people nationwide on what they watched the previous day. Very few over 50s will have watched LiveAid live and few children would be interested in sitting for 8+ hours. So probably only 30% of the public even here in the UK watched it. Nowadays because of the internet the actual viewing figures are pretty accurate and figures are falling year on year for live tv.

Fun reaction! When you see the clapping to “Radio Gaga” it’s important to remember that this isn’t a Queen concert/Queen audience. These people came to see a bunch of different 18:15 legends. Queen was a late add to the line up so the people there bought tickets unaware that Queen was performing that day. The call and response was a staple at Queen concerts. Brian May and the other band members didn’t want Freddie to do it at this venue afraid it might flop in the mixed audience. It didn’t. This kind of thing are examples of why so many people consider Freddie Mercury the or one of the greatest front men in rock and roll history. Signed, a Queen devotee since the late 70s. Have fun!

if you think that this crowd of 72,000 people was big you should watch his Rock in Rio concert. Watch the song Love of my Life Rock in Rio and there are about half a million people in that audience. It was a two day concert with 1.2 million people showing up in those 2 days. Remembering that Rio in Brazil was a crowd that didn't speak English, watch what they do to show Freddie and Brian how much they are loved. It's amazing.
@trishc3099 Жыл бұрын
I personally prefer Freddie's actual performance of Love Of My Life at Wembley in '86. I just think that the way he sang it was better. But the crowd in Rio? OMG. If you factor in the fact that most of them didn't speak English and still knew every word, it's enough to make you cry. I would recommend watching both performances.

The biggest Norwegian band, A-ha, played at Rock in Rio in 1991 and got in the Guinnes books of records for having the most paying audience at an outdoor concet ever. Dont know which year Queen performed there, but A-ha was huge there. Artists like Guns’n Roses, Prince, INXS, Run DMC, Joe Cocker, Billy Idol, Faith no more, George Michael/Wham, Judas Priest, NKOTB etc...played at the same festival but A-ha drew the most attendance. They had that record until 2017. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mnS4o5yLqdVoi7s kzbin.info/www/bejne/oXizn3h8jsd2brc

@@trishc3099 I agree. The crowd at Rio was better and louder but I think Freddie's vocals were especially better at Wembley. He hits a songbird type high note at one point when the crowd sings "I still love you" and he follows with that note. It's damn perfection when he hits that. Freddie's live performances of this song are all great but I believe the Wembley Stadium version is the best.

Indeed, We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions are original Queen songs. This is the best live performance in the history of music period. What makes it even more impressive is Freddie Mercury (the lead singer) was advised not to sing at Live Aid due to throat issues. He ignored the doctor's advice and totally crushed it. Freddie Mercury was the best singer and showman performer and no one will ever live up to his work. The band is once in a lifetime special and there will never be another singer or group like them. Live AId was a duel-venue concert to raise money to fight the effects of a 2- year drought in Ethiopia that was broadcast worldwide. There were 72,000 at Wembley Stadium and at the second venue, JFK Stadium in Philadelphia there were 100,000. The concert was broadcast to a worldwide audience using 13 satellites to 1.5 BILLION people! There were 75+ acts that each performed a 20-minute gig to help raise money including Elton John, Madonna, Santana, Run DMC, Sade, Sting, Bryan Adams, the Beach Boys, Mick Jagger, David Bowie, Duran Duran, U2, the Who, Tom Petty, Neil Young, and Eric Clapton. Queen stole the show. Paul Gambaccini, who was part of the BBC broadcasting team at Live Aid, recalled the awe among other superstar musicians watching backstage. “Everybody realized that Queen was stealing the show,” said Gambaccini. These were the very words Elton John uttered when he rushed into Mercury’s trailer after the set. “You bastards, you stole the show,” joked the star. “Queen smoked ’em. They just took everybody. They walked away being the greatest band you’d ever seen in your life, and it was unbelievable,” said David Grohl of Foo Fighters. “And that’s what made the band so great; that’s why they should be recognized as one of the greatest rock bands of all time because they could connect with an audience.”

Each group only had 20 minutes if they went beyond it, they were told the audio would be cut. There were so many bands, it was an all day event, with a second show going on at the same time in Philadelphia. Wembley held 72,000 people and the show was sold out but number of attendees ranges from 72,000 to 80,000 depending on who you listen to. Unfortunately, I believe this is the copy of this concert that cuts off right at the end which sucks but it is often the one people choose because it is a couple minutes shorter than the other one that opens with the comedians dressed as London Police. Of course this is still well worth the listen, this set is fantastic. I always feel like I am actually there. I watched this on TV the day it happened, I think everyone did. The concert was a benefit for Famine Relief in Ethiopia. All of these songs are original Queen songs. Love your reaction. I get so excited and laugh very hard when these kids get to the final two songs of the LIFE AID CONCERT and realize that they know those songs. Their faces, when finally realize that the band they were hearing in the video is the band that created maybe the most famous anthems of the modern world - We Will Rock You and We Are the Champion- I see their young faces lit in disbelief because finally, they can put faces and names two those songs. And are mesmerized by the discovery. I enjoy that moment so much. Yes. Queen is the legend.

The video was clipped. 9.48 was much later in the day, when Freddie and Brian May (the guitarist) came on to do an acoustic 'Is This The World We Created?'. Legends!

The six songs were Bohemian Rhapsody, opening; Radio Ga Ga; Hammer To Fall; Crazy Little Thing Called Love; We Will Rock You, opening; and We Are The Champions. There were an estimated 72,000 people at Wembley that day.

around 80,000 people in wembly stadium and there were not all queen fans but if you listen to the crowd they know all the words of every song. this was a multi group/band/singer concert for Raising money to stop starvation in africa and it was televised around the would to about 2 billion people all this before the invention of the internet and social media, no Mobile/smart phones and NO AUTOTUNE and they still sound this good LIVE!.

Watching reaction videos on the treadmill. You were almost as entertaining as Queen. Loved watching you try to keep up with Freddie! You remind me of my son who was born before this concert. Did you know that Brian May (fuzzy haired guitarist) is an astrophysicist?

Queen was my first rock concert (Montreal 1978). I was 13 and they were one of my favourite bands at the time. It was amazing and a very long show, as by that time they had many albums under their belt.

Michael Jackson was a huge fan of Freddie and Queen...he would go to their concerts when they were in the U.S. There were 70,000 people at this concert to raise money for the famine in Ethiopia. They were so many big bands that day but it was common concensus that Queen stole the show. React to the video on why they stole the show that day. More Queen please

About 80,000. No one could control a crowd like Freddie. Greatest live show ever even if the doctor told Freddie to cancel because he was having throat issues. The guitarist Brian Mays is listed in Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the top 100 guitarists of all time. Radio Gaga is where Lady Gaga got her name

I've loved watching ppl react to this performance for a minute now, and I have to this reaction is the best I've seen so far. The way you got into it was amazing and made me smile so much! Just an FYI the Hammer to Fall song he did that you didn't know was about Communist Russia at the time and the world's desire to stop oppressing their citizens. It was a political and controversial song to perform at the time, but Freddie knew his audience and quite frankly didn't give a fudge.

Freddie Mercury is a LEGEND. Watch Documentaries and Biographies about Queen and Live Aid July 13.1985. If I wrote everything I know about Queen it would be a novel. They were remarkable. Yes We Will Rock You was a Queen song and so was We are the Champions. Queen songs are still being enjoyed, I love this.

Do more Queen reactions my guy as it'll bring you in loads more views. I'll be waiting for the next one but you should check out "Somebody to Love live in Montreal in HD" for your next one as it's amazing.

Wembley holds 72 thousand people for sporting events, so if the bleachers are full the added people on the playing field has to bring it close to 100 thousand. And Freddie was singing his heart out after having laryngitis the week before. His doctor advised him to cancel the performance but Freddie ignored the advice and went on to make rock history.
