At the time of Live Aid I was serving in the British Royal Marine Commandos in a refugee camp in Ethiopia. We listened to it on the radio. We were surrounded by the full horror of the Famine, but when Queen came on the radio those poor soles who were there even reacted in a very positive way. I remember that a lot of us Royal Marine Commandos were crying watching some of the children dancing along, I'm teary eyed just remembering. I looked around at men I had fought alongside, who were tough, hardened Royal Marine Commandos who had fought a life and death war against Argentinian's in 82. By the end of Queen's set we were dancing with the children. It went along way to help build their trust in us. The famine is only one of many terrible memories I have from 35 years of active service, and over 3 years hospitalisation. But when I remember the smiles on the children's faces, and their laughter at the terrible way we danced always reminds me that humanity will always find it's way through even the worst of times. I only watched it for the first time 2 year's ago, my son put it on the TV. A lot of memories came back and a lot of tears. My amazing Wife took me to see Queen at Wembley, U.K., in 1986 two weeks after I got back from Ethiopia as a surprise. I saw Queen live 6 times in all, they were incredible live. And yes, I am an old fart.

I fell in love with Queen at age 11 in 1975 when the Night at the Opera album came out. My parents got it for me because they thought it was actually opera for kids. :-) Last year, my grandson turned 11 and I introduced him to Bohemian Rhapsody. My daughter and I started singing it and did the entire six minutes. I told my grandson there are some things everyone needs to know to get through life: Basic cooking, keeping track of your finances, singing Bohemian Rhapsody all the way through... You know, the important things.

"For 20 minutes another Queen ruled England" and the world. Radio Gaga was the song that inspired Lady Gaga's stage name. And yes, according to a group of music industry experts, he was voted the best male rock vocalist of all time. In this 20 minute set at Live Aid, they barely scratched the surface of their long list of hits. And there were some cuts in your video.

I was very fortunate to see Queen in July of 1982 at the Oakland Coliseum. I was fourteen and was absolutely stunned. It turned out to be one of the very last concerts Queen played in the United States. My mom was extremely gifted musically and with her encouragement I started playing guitar that same year. By the time Live Aid came around we watched it together. Phenomenal! Then we cried and laughed when we watched the Freddie Mercury tribute concert.....which was incredible! Five years later my mom died at the tender age of 54 (which is my age now), five months before her first grandson, my son, was born. Appropriately, I named him Brian after Brian May.

Hi Slick, LOVED the expression on your face when Freddie did his improv... he was known to do this at all their concerts. They believed in incorporating the audiences into their music, thus so many anthem songs like "We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions" and "Love of My Life"... (Old) Wembley Stadium held 80K people, BUT you have to realize this was a benefit concert broadcast worldwide on television and radio stations to an estimated 2 billion or approximately 40% of the world's population at the time. "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" was written by Freddie while in the bathtub one night, took about ten minutes to write and dedicated it to one of his favorite singers, Elvis. Radio Gaga was a tribute to the media that made QUEEN a household name, thanks to Kenny Chesney and "Bohemian Rhapsody"... you might know "Another One Bites the Dust", another 'anthem' song... many of us Queenie's grew up on Queen classics... including Lady Gaga, which took her name from the song... hope you enjoyed the concert. Also, they performed another song in the evening to close the show called "Is This the World We Created?"... They only had 20 minutes on stage, so they did have to cut some songs short, and yes, that was a bad video, cut out too soon.... thanks for the reaction, really enjoyed it and subbed anticipating more... recommendations?? Nah, if it's QUEEN it's all good!! Blessings to you and yours.

Freddie was able to use faster vibrato and do harmonics on a four octave range that no other singer has ever been able to do. Scientists that studied his voice said it was because he used other parts of his throat including the extra “false” vocal chords in human throats. Also he had a wider jaw than most people. That voice combined with his charisma made him able to spellbind listeners. Luckily he hooked up with 3 other members who were professional musical artists who could all write versatile songs. The greatest voice with the greatest musicians created magic that has never been duplicated.

The most charismatic vocalist in music history just doing his thing. This is the moment when UK was ruled by another Queen.

I was there ! An early 21st Birthday present to myself. Freddie’s Doctor advised him not to perform as he was suffering with a throat and chest infection … you’d hardly know from that performance. Apparently one of the Queen management team got in to the sound booth a pushed the volume up past the authorised noise limit for their set 😂

I just love Queen/Freddie Mercury. He is the best male vocalist. Queen will be listened to 100 years from, that is how iconic they are. So the song list is: Bohemian Rhapsody, Radio GaGa, Hammer to Fall, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, We Will Rock You and We are the Champions. If you want to see crowd control may I suggest you watch Under Pressure Live at Wembley -- the 5:56 minute version. Truly amazing. I'm sure you heard this song. Also Another One Bites the Dust live at Wembley. Iconic songs. They have so many songs that are awesome, Don't Stop me Now is another one. Glad you enjoy Queen. I love your reactions.

An excellent example of Freddie's capabilities are the "Call and Respnse" and the improv. called "IMPROMPTU" both at 1986 Wembley concert. That entire concert is available on KZbin and on DVD. Every moment is worth watching and reviewing. It is a master class in musicianship from all 4 members working together as one amazing band. There is an encore at Live Aid with zFreddie and Brian "Is This The World We Created" Beautifully performed. It is also available from 1986 Wembley Magic Tour concert

Others have said some of the most important things about the concert, but as a frequent Reaction viewer (and Queenie), you do you on your own channel. You will get those who love you and those who don't. Ask Queen! They had the exact same "problem!" If YOU are comfortable, your channel's viewers will be. Most of all, have FUN!

Freddie was able to give this magnificent performance even though he had laryngitis the week before and was advised by his doctor to cancel his appearance. Queen is one of the few rock bands that sounds as good if not better live than recordings done in a studio. Wembley stadium holds 72 thousand when they're having sporting events, so if the permanent seats are all filled and the infield is packed, there have to be close to 100 thousand there. Another video you might enjoy is called "The Story of Queen at Live Aid". It's not terribly long and has some great interviews. Jer and Bomi Bulsara went to most of Freddie Mercury’s concerts. But not Live Aid, on July 13, 1985, when their son, quite literally, rocked the world. In order, the songs are a shortened version of Bohemian Rhapsody, Radio Gaga, Hammer to Fall, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, We Will Rock You, We Are the Champions. Freddie wrote the song "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" in about 10 minutes while he was taking a bath. It was a tribute of sorts to Elvis. They had to do shortened versions of two of their songs because each group performing was only allowed 20 minutes. No, it was not supposed to skip at the end, probably a computer error.

I’m sorry the end cut out like that. There are other YT videos of Queen Live Aid that do not cut off, in case you want to watch the whole thing. but you didn’t miss much. They finish We are the Champions and then all the band members come to the end of the stage to bow and that is where it cut to. At the very end it gave a different time on the screen 9:48. After all the other acts performed. Freddie and Brian came back on stage to sing “Is this the world we created” you can search for it. I’ve seen other reactors watch it.

Each act had a 20 minute set. A lot of the other performers played their current songs to promote their albums and didn’t take advantage of the time. Queen took it seriously and spent a week or so putting their playlist together and they had giant clocks in front of them so they could practice and pack as much in as they could in 20 minutes. It also helped that the sound guy worked for Queen and tweaked it so that Queen was louder than everyone else. By the middle of the set, the other acts backstage started to watch them on the monitors and realized that Queen was stealing the show and basically kicked everyone’s ass and they knew it!! Brian May (guitarist) said that they had an advantage because they’d been playing stadiums for years and Freddie knew how to get the crowd involved. Many people say it’s the best live performance. Also, because the stage was pretty basic due to all the different artists, critics didn’t think Queen would pull it off because their shows are typically a huge production with lighting etc. and again Queen shut down the critics proving that they can put on a great show with just the four of them. David Bowie who was a big star back then was the next act in the lineup and was quoted in an interview later that backstage he was saying how was he supposed to follow that. But he said it more colorfully. Elton John was quoted as saying 'Freddie, nobody should go on after you - you were magnificent. ' Freddie said: 'You're absolutely right, darling, we were - we killed them.

Agree with everything you say, except that it was "just the four of them'". I read that Spike, the keyboard player who is still with them, played piano onstage during their set, but wasn't filmed...?

Bob Geldof realized there was magic happening when he saw the audience react to Lady Gaga. About the same time someone said "they've done it the bastards! They've stolen the show!". Indeed.

Bowie put on a hell of a show himself. You couldn't match Queen. But he was Bowie. In 1985 he was probably the biggest star in the world. He did the very best he could, which was absolutely great by any normal standards (seriously, the videos are out there; it's a good show). And no-one remembers it, and nor should they.

I love this concert and have seen it so many times, still I am not tired of it. Each time I watch it, I feel like I am right there in the audience. Your channel, your choices. Nobody is forced to watch your channel. Just don't pause in the middle of a Brian May guitar solo, that will get Queen Army hate raining down on you in a big way. This is old Wembley Stadium and it holds 72,000 people but I have heard with the field standing instead of seated it is 80,000. I have heard both figures for this show. Thank you for your reaction. Track List: Bohemian Rhapsody (truncated), Radio Ga-Ga, Call and Response (Ay-Oh), Hammer To Fall, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, We Will Rock You, We Are The Champions. No, it doesn't end like that, it is something wrong with the download, I have heard this happen to others before, too.
