2:53:00 I never appreciated this scene the first time around to the degree that I should have. The reason emilia wanted subaru to look at her the same way he looks at everyone else is bccause for Emilias entire life she has been treated as a devil and someone who is different and should be looked down upon, she wants nothing more than for people to treat her normally. When subaru says "I cant look at you the way I look at others" my heart sank for Emilia as in her mind this is due to her being a silver haired half elf, but in Subarus mind this is because he just genuinely loves her. Fully understanding this misunderstanding between them has made me realize how good this shows writing is. I'm still being blown away by it every time I pick up something I wouldn't have gotten during the first watch.

I mean, at that point neither Subaru nor the viewer knew how bad the prejudice was. Emilia always kept that part of her hidden from everyone else, after all. We only got a somewhat grasp of it after Appa-guy told him (2:57:09).

And so, his arbitrary utopia, one that had never existed, crumbled without a sound. His lips quivered. His eyes were hot inside. His tongue was twitching. These were the deeds Subaru ought to be proud of, and rewarded for. He'd come that far. He'd done so much. He added, "You have to owe me something for everything I've done for you-!!" He shouted because the meaning of all his actions, and the thoughts behind them, had been refuted. Subaru's vainglorious search for praise, his gnawing desire for satisfaction, and his egotistical wish to be wanted, had been the unconscious extremes that had led him down his path. i love subaru, he has his own psychological probs, what's makes him so much more relateble. he is not a bad guy at all, it's just a thing of traumata and all that dumb unlucky stuff, the same goes for emilia as well... they both don't deserve anything bad, but the best about subaru and emilia is, they learn out thier mistakes.

Btw I feel the ogre story also applies to Subaru's character in a way like both orges represent him. He keeps on making sacrifices but doesn't ask for anything big in return so in turn he doesn't exactly "gain" anything but also he's dragging everyone with him to his own selfish desires by desparately wanting to be a part of their lives. That especially shows during the royal selection arc. Had he kept his promise of not interfiering and not using magic Emilia probably wouldn't have gone back to the mansion without him or he didn't have to stay in the capital. That's just my theory though...

Then again, it all worked out because without that, he wouldn't be able to meet the other candidates and gotten Crusch and Anastasia to help kill the White Whale, and then Wilhelm and even Julius to help deal with the witch's cult. He would have been locked in a death loop until he ran away and gave up. Think about it. If he went back to the mansion, there's a chance the checkpoint would update to there instead, and he wouldn't be able to handle the witch's cult with the resources available in just the mansion, because Julius wouldn't be there to help him defeat Betelgeuse.

I know this is two months old, just giving you bit of fun fact? From episode 3, Reinhard's attack, The Sword's play of House Astrea, the anime didn't really show much, but I think in LN or Manga, the attack of Reinhard literally cut space in half and as the surrounding was freezing cold and that bright white light was space itself being cut in half, and also the reason why the blade that Elsa thrown just flew away on Reinhard, he has over hundreds of more of Divine blessings and one of those Divine Blessings is that it can deflect any projectiles that is thrown at him like wa it 80 or full on 100%, and also as you already know it, the magic system of their world is depend by their mana output and the strength of their gate, Reinhard can do magic but his gate just really¹⁰ broken he cannot unleash any magic all he can do is suck all of the magic in the atmosphere as you saw him doing the Sword's Play of House Astrea. Anyways aside of all that really enjoyed your reactions especially the dread moment of episode 15 and 18 😅.

Hey to explain the letter part So basically when you see episode 1 of season 2 you will understand what happened to Rem most likely you already did but when no one remembers her she basically removed from existence to the point anything she made is removed so when the letter that she wrote was sent she got removed from the world so the letter became plank so basically a plank letter is no good.
