I love how more and more people are getting into Re:Zero now that Season 3 is about to start. It’s by far the greatest isekai and even fantasy in general that I’ve ever read. It’s my favorite series ever and I can’t see anything topping it for me right now. Everything about this masterpiece is so perfectly written. All the characters are very unique and complex, especially the protagonist Natsuki Subaru, who is my favorite character in fiction. He’s just the most relatable character with the greatest development ever. The lore is also incredibly deep with so many interesting mysteries. Re:Zero subverts your expectations of a typical isekai very well as it is unlike any other isekai. There is no stupidly overpowered protagonist; in fact, Subaru is completely weak physically but has to overcome all of his struggles through determination and the help of his knowledge and his friends. Also, there is no harem or ecchi BS. What I find most intriguing about it is that it actually handles its core isekai element very well, with incredible astronomy lore that connects the world of Re:Zero to Earth. At its core, Re:Zero is just an amazing story about a guy who would do anything just to save the girl he loves. This quote from the light novel summarizes it perfectly: “No matter how much he got hurt, no matter what pain he endured, no matter how often he tasted despair, it was all to save Emilia.” And speaking of, the light novel is the source material for Re:Zero. Actually, there’s also the web novel. Both the LN and WN follow the same story, but there are a few changes and the LN cuts some content from the WN, but the difference isn’t too significant and both have their pros and cons. They’re both a lot better than the anime since the content the anime cuts is actually pretty major. So once you catch up with the anime and end up loving it, you should read the novel. It’s recommended to read the LN for Arcs 1-3 and the WN for Arc 4 and above, although the LN is generally recommended for Arc 5 as well. Anyway, I can’t wait to see your reactions.
