A little trivia for ya. Harv ( the zombie at Doc's garage door window ) was Forest J Ackerman , creator and publisher the original FAMOUS MONSTERS. If you look at horror/ monster movies in the 60's , 70's and 80's you can spot Ackerman in many of them. For example you can see Ackerman as a customer in the occult book store in THE HOWLING , and as the President Of The United States in AMAZON WOMEN ON THE MOON.

(word of warning) eat an hour before watching both, and you'll be shocked that these films were directed and created by Peter Jackson whose films these days aren't as insane as his earlier works.) not sure if i had suggested this already but i also recommend Rabid Grannies and the original 90's film The Witches.

After seeing these a few times over these decades, the inconguity of #1 vs. #2, 3, 4, etc, doesn't bother me. Once seen, I've adjusted my expectations and then appreciated each film as their own. With #3, the tone shifts to pure drama with only a few 'in jokes' to snicker at. Far too few. I've rewatched them all but only #1 and #2 are worth of repeated watchings. And it's all James Karen and Thom Mathews.

Return III is directed by Brian Yuzna who is known for his Body Horror classic Society. He also directed Bride Of Re-animator, but he’s most prolific as a producer. He produced films like Re-animator, From Beyond, Dolls, Dagon, and Honey, I Shrunk The Kids. The one CW I can think to give: Theme of self-harm. I remember reading an interview with the guy that did the MJ impersonation, Brian Peck. He also played Scuz in the original movie and one of the hazmat guys in part 3 that gets killed by the skinny zombie. This makes him the only actor to appear in the first 3 movies. He said that the director couldn't make up his mind about him having him go out dressed like MJ. He would say yes, then change his mind. then at the very last minute as they were about to finish the scene the director finally said yes. he was already wearing the outfit so he just jumped out there. Sadly, of all things, Brian Peck was convicted of child molestation years later.

I really wished this movie didn't contradict the events of the previous movie, there were clearly no survivors. Also the ease of the zombies defeat felt like it robbed the first movie of the zombies utter unkillableness and made everyone in the first movie look like idiots. This one was a straight comedy unlike the original. If you notice in the original all the actors played their roles serious. It was only funny when the zombies talked. In this one everyone played their roles in a comedic tone. I don't know if this was done on purpose or if they didn't get or just missed the tone of the original.
@DCFCfanatic3 жыл бұрын
@@synical13 Actually part 3 had some lines in it that connected part 2 but were removed. it had to do with the zombies they had experimenting on in the military base. those zombies were supposed to be the same ones from the electric plant in part 2. they were supposed to also explain that electricity cannot kill zombies but it can render them immobile when it shocks their nervous system. this only lasts for a while and they turned to freezing the zombies with those cryo bullets they shot into their heads. as for the barrels seen at the start of part 2, they were supposed to be taken from the nuked remains of the city from part 1. which would explain why tarman was still there. but then again, didn't they knock his head off? the army general was the same guy from part 1, that's why he says not again. as for parts 4 and 5. they were a lame attempt by some people that just bought the name of the series to capitalize on the name. Although from what I remember reading back then, they were saying they were going to pay homage to the originals by making one movie serious and the other more of a comedy. they even went as far as getting Fangoria magazine to cover the movie. in the end the movies were shown at some festival with the hopes a distributor would pick them up but no one did. Of course here comes the scifi channel and they saved the day by airing them back to back on a Saturday night as their original movies. things people noticed right away were the different name of the chemical. Why didn't they keep the same name? it was like they didn't really see the original movies. no only that but the zombies were actually getting killed when in the original movies, there was no way to kill them. makes no sense. I do also remember them making excuses for the different chemical name saying that since the last movie, 3, they've experimented with the chemical and created new versions of them and that's why it was easy to kill the zombies in 4 and 5.
@jcIIXVIIIVII2 жыл бұрын
This takes place in a different town than the first one. And although the two actors who played Frank and Freddy from the first one returned for this one, they were playing completely different characters. Not one single character from the original film showed up in this one, other than Tarman. So no, it doesn't contradict the first film in any way. And they don't die easy. It showed them having a hard time killing them before they found a way. This simply showed a different way to kill them, other than cremation. And whether it's cremation or electrocution, those are still far harder ways to kill zombies than the typical head shot. These ones were just as hard to kill as in the original. And I never once felt that the original took itself seriously either. I laughed as much when I first watched the original at 6 years old as I did watching this one at 7. NEITHER of these first 2 films took themselves seriously. They both were meant to be nothing more than comedic, popcorn fun...albeit, with horror elements. And I thought the characters from the first one were just as hilarious as the ones in the 2nd one. And the plot was just like the original, a chemical brings the dead back to life, takes over a town. The ONLY real difference is, this one actually had actual survivors and the town wasn't blown up, unlike in the first one. This one is still way better than any of the others that came after. The zombies DID become easier to kill after Part 3, to the point that you could just basically knock them over and they'd "die". As far as I'm concerned, Parts 1 and 2 are the only ones worth watching in the Living Dead series.

It seems you watched the altered version featuring the generic soundtrack. when the dvd version of the movie was released parts of the soundtrack were replaced, such as the opening song. the cemetery song and others. they claimed it was because of right issues. but if you switched to the French audio, it featured the original soundtrack. they claimed it was cuz they lost the rights to the American version of the movie, where the French version still had full rights to use them. When Scream Factory released the movie on blu ray, they released the full correct version which proved that the rights had never been lost. So what happened. also the thing with the rain. it was never stated in the movies, but when the chemical gets released, some of it goes up into the sky. this then mixes up within the clouds and down comes the rain. the chemical helps produce that rain.

This one is dumb fun if you're just after some pure cheese... but after the classic that the original is. this one is... eh... kinda weak. Different producers, different writer, different director (Dan O'Bannon is sorely missed).. they hired some of the cast back (Clu Gulager wisely passed) as different characters but it feels hollow.. it's like they thought "a zombie comedy... how hard could it be".. then just made it goofy as hell...not understanding the the subtlety, wit, style, or cynicism of the original.. their idea of wit is a Michael Jackson parody... Also... electricity kills them now? Getdafuggouttahere with that shit. To me this is a lesson in "how to kill a franchise".. I call it the "Robocop 3 of Return of the Living Dead movies" 🤣 yes there were more.. 3 is anstep up.. after that just skip em all.
@DCFCfanatic3 жыл бұрын
yeah that whole electricity thing was a wtf moment. but they were going to try and correct that in part 3. there was originally some lines that connected this movie to part 2. the zombies that were in part 3's military base were supposed to be from the electric company. the electricity didn't kill them, just messed with their nervous system. causing the zombies to shut down for a while. supposedly they originally would shock the zombies to immobilize them but the zombies started to get used to it. so they discovered that shooting cryo bullets into their skulls worked too. but as part 3 showed, it too didn't last long. the lines were removed from the movie script.
