It’s actually a super cool reference to the original planet of the apes movie series because in the backstory the apes revolted because one of them said no. But it wasn’t shown it was just spoken about.

It is a fantastic movie, especially made better if you've seen the old movies. I can't remember if it was advertised as a prequel or reboot but by the end of the movie it fits really well as a prequel. Edit And Im don't recall the explanation for why there weren't many humans in the old movies but this lays the foundation really well.

I do actually like Franco in serious roles. The moment Caesar says "Caesar is home." You can SEE his character going from amazement that he can actually talk, then his realization going from being 'Caesar's Caretaker' to 'Guest of the Ape King.' He does it really well.
@humanoid251
@humanoid251 Жыл бұрын
God that scene of Caesar yelling “NO!” for the first time is so fucken good!! I don’t know the context too well but that “damn dirty ape” line is a reference to the original and from my understanding people who knew that heard the line and were all “ah! Ah! He said the thing” and then Caesar spoke and they were just 🤯🤯🤯🤯
@AlextheHistorian
@AlextheHistorian Жыл бұрын
In the first movie when charlton heston is captured and is being moved by the apes, he says "get your stinking hands off of me you damn dirty ape!" his delivery of that line is what made it so famous. Few actors who've said the line made it sound as good. Except in the Tim Burton Planet of the Apes, the line is turned around when a Gorilla general says "Get your stinking hands off me you damn dirty human!" that was pretty funny.
@AndyT81
@AndyT81 Жыл бұрын
To add. The humans cannot talk in the original films so a kind of role reversal. Charlton Heston is injured and cannot talk. His voice starts to heal and that line is the first thing he says but also the first time that the apes ever heard a human talk. Just a little context there.

It's been said by anthropolgists that the main distinguishing factor between humans and other great apes is the spoken language, not tool making, or building things, cos lots of animals do that. When Caesar said NO, despite the fact he was clever, and able to problem solve, and even create art wasn't enough to consider him a "person" it's when he spoke that he rose to the level of an equal to a human. So that theory of language, was pretty much confirmed by the audience reaction.
@dylancole1910
@dylancole1910 Жыл бұрын
And the fact that in reality it’s impossible for an ape form words vocally, even if they understand written and spoken language. I actually knew this watching it for the first time and seeing as they were not doing what the original did I was not expecting Caesar to actually speak. Then BOOM. My mind was blown. It was done so well, and I got chills. As far as unrealistic things in movies go, I’m ok with this because it made for a great detail that helped humanized these animals even more. Not that I didn’t care about Caesar before, but I cared a LOT more when it was clear he was developing the ability to articulate vocally. Whoever directed this film was a genius.

It’s such a fantastic triology, I’m not sure why it doesn’t have the same level of support!! The bit that always gets me is the Alzheimer’s, what the dad is going through is so relatable if anyone knows, like having good days and bad days, where they remember something but not others. Also when the dad sees Cesar for the first time, it’s so important after knowing how how people with Alzheimer’s react with kids/baby’s/dolls It can be so helpful, even if just for giving a few secs of normality

This flick was way more brilliant than it had any right to be. Sometimes movies like this put other films to shame when you see how much thought went into the storyline as well as the individual moments. Even if flicks were 1/10 of this they would be so much better. Sometime I'm watching a flick and I think, huh, now if only they DID something with this :/ Can't wait for the next one from you!

If you watch the original planet of the apes with Charlton Heston after watching this modern trilogy, they actually sync up really well. Especially since at the end of this movie if you pay close attention to the news report while the guys in the airport, you can hear a reporter talking about a space shuttle crew that is lost in space. They are actually talking about Charlton Heston’s character from the original movie.

MISS!!! 👏🏻👏🏻 just know this story is different to the original 60s films because in this, the apes are the experiment. in the originals, the humans are captured by the apes but there’s some great callbacks to the originals in this trilogy. “Bright Eyes” being Caesar’s mother in this, is a reference to one of the apes calling one of the humans “bright eyes” because of his blue eyes

There was an end credit scene that is rather important to the second movie. Also, in the background there are tv screens showing news footage of the launch of the ship from the Charleston Heston 1968 original movie. And of course many references to the 1968 movie with names of the apes and Tom Felton got to do the meme line from the 1968 movie.

One of the best trilogies I’ve ever watched. No- well, sort of. It’s not directly linked to the original films but lots of people consider it a reboot or a prequel series. It’s one of the best visually as well. On par with Avatar ( obviously, Avatar is a lot better but this is a very close second best). All this was done in Mocap, all the ape actors had stunt people and ape experts that helped them transform performance wise, it’s mind blowing. You should really look up the behind the scenes of this movie and also Dawn. This series is getting lots of attention lately and I love it, I can only assume it’s partially due to the rumor going around that a fourth film is currently in production ( if that’s true I’m really excited for that). My top five favorite parts of this film: 1. “ NOOOO!” No matter how many times I hear it or see it, instant body chills. unexpected on my first watch and loved seeing your surprised reaction as well. 2. Caesar riding out of the fog on the Horse. Another instant chills moment, so badass. 3. Big Gorilla takes one for the team. The whole sequence of the Gorilla taking down the helicopter and going down. 4. It may be little, but that look of absolute authority when Caesar pulls Will up. In that moment you don’t see him as the happy ape child, or the questioning/ moody teen. He has grown up, he is an adult who has full command over a whole colony of apes. It’s really amazing because in that moment you don’t really know what he’s going to do. 5. “ Caesar is Home” finality. Identity, and belonging. It’s satisfying as much as it is chilling. And also surprising, even after hearing one word not to long ago, you still don’t expect him to be speaking a three word statement in perfect human English. This film was so well done. Dawn and War are definitely step ups from Rise, but they all mesh together in one perfectly told story. Each leaves you more amazed at not only Caesar, but the civilization he has developed. You will love the next two movies. 😄
