I feel for Koba. He’s like the Magneto of the apes. He just saw the worst of humanity and none of the good parts until it was too late. Hard to blame him for how he sees the world.

Well sadly I am going to blame him, he is the quote, unquote "villian" of the second movie!
@Steef_Lee
@Steef_Lee Жыл бұрын
@@HolyNamed okay, I’m sure plenty of people do. Not everyone is capable of that type of empathy. And yes, he is one of the antagonists or “villains”, but that doesn’t mean he’s one dimensional or unsympathetic.

@@HolyNamed and I do blame him for his actions, he is absolutely the antagonist and needed to die. I just don’t blame him for hating humans the way he dies. I chose my words carefully.

well, i wouldn't say i can't blame him, but i can definitely sympathize. all his experiences with humans were horrible, he was abused and experimented on. irl people have hated entire groups for much less than that, like a singular bad experience. but at the end of the day, it's up to each of us as individuals to decide whether we let our past and those bad experiences we've had dictate who we are now and how we treat others. having bad things done to us in the past does not justify doing the same (or worse) things to others later on. rather than trusting a good leader who has successfully kept them safe and thriving over the years and the both good and bad (nuanced) experiences he's likely shared with them all, koba made the bad choice to ignore that and dwell on past wrongs. it's unfortunate that he couldn't see past his hate. he was a really well-written character!

Maurice is in honor of the actor who played the intellectual centerpiece (Dr Zaius, also an Orangutan) in the original 1968 movie and its follow up. His name was Maurice Evans. You would know him as Samantha's father on Bewitched where his character was also named Maurice.

Ceasar and Koba. Such amazing amazing characters. Someone I read pointed this out and they are spot on. Ceasar and Koba are the Professor X and Magneto of the Planet of the Apes franchise. I kinda wished Koba would have lived. It would have been very dynamic to see the clash between the two sides continue while trying to defend from the common enemy...humans.

My absolute favorite planet of the apes film. Amazing CGI, memorable characters both human and ape, and I love the tone. The apes aren't inherently evil they just want their own space, and the humans aren't evil they just want to survive in their space. Then both sides can benefit from interacting with one another but malevolent individuals on both sides and turn a waning trust into a battle.

1. your the second channel i love that's reacted to this in the last few days. 2. The hunt was meant to mirror how the apes were hunting humans in the original movie. 3. One thing that i think is vastly overlooked regarding Koba is that he basically killed the world when he caused some of that aerosol to disperse into the air in Rise. 4. Genetic immunity is a real thing. 5. I love the sound Maurice made when he protected Malcom and Alex from Koba. 6. This movie cost 170 million to make. Made 700 mil at box office. 7. The book Alex had is Black Hole, about an strange outbreak that infects teenagers and is transmitted by sexual contact. Pretty dark from what I understand. 8. Koba killing those two jokers terrified me to the core. 9. James Franco and his GF didn't survive the outbreak. 10. Toby Kebbell played Koba. I honestly rank him as one of the greatest villains of all time, up there with Thanos or Darth Vader or Hannibal Lector.

I have to say Koba definitely won me over in the movie, he was just hilarious, even if it was just to screw with the humans, it was still hilarious to watch, he definitely made me jump when he fricking fired that weapon, almost as much as it was hearing Caesar talk for the first time, I can’t really blame Koba for his hate on humans, he was nothing more than a mistreated lab experiment before his freedom, and he can’t really change his point of view on humans either way. I forgot if in WFTPoTA if there was a scene just as good, I remember loving this series, but I didn’t remember all of it, it’s great being able to rewatch these. Team Apes!

Great reaction, appreciate you including the subs as well fam. You really key in on the murky waters that embody the nature of the ape vs man conflict. This series took me by surprise, too. I actually saw the entire old series from way back in the day, and the camp of that is basically entirely gone here. It’s really a powerful story they’ve told. I showed this series to my ex a few years back, and she also thought it would be a goofy talking monkey flick. Then she was in tears and engrossed by Andy Serkis’ performance and the writing haha If you haven’t seen them, you may want to consider reacting to the original Planet of the Apes series from way back in the day. It’s pretty dated and kind of campy now, but this series actually builds upon the lore from those. Watching them after seeing this, you’ll have a broader respect for the world at large, and especially for Caesar’s legacy. They made a ton of films, like 6 I think, and like all long series of sequels they definitely start to lose their steam after the first couple, but the first few, and especially the original, are definitely worth watching at the very least. They will certainly give you a newfound respect for Malfoy’s ‘get your hands off me you damn dirty apes!’ Line in the previous film lol

i can’t remember if you included the post-credit scene from Rise but that neighbour the ill employee sneezed on, (or whoever it was that got sneezed on) then goes to the airport for a flight, blood dripping from somewhere and that’s how the spread of the flu starts (i’m 90% sure that’s the reason from memory anyway, so someone correct me if i am wrong!!). which then makes the intro to Dawn perfect as a straight up sequel!

2:43 A group of monkeys is usually referred to as a "troup". A group of apes, which the animals in this movie are, is called a "shrewdness" as I just learned on Wikipedia: "A group of apes or chimpanzees is a shrewdness. Chimpanzees, gorillas, orangutans, and gibbons are all types of apes. Thus, if there is a gathering of any type group of ape, the group is called a shrewdness. Other primates who are not in the ape family, when gathered in a large group, are known as a troop." The more interesting question you raise here, is whether a group of different species of apes (chimpanzees, bonobos, gorillas and orang utangs) would go under either one of those names.

I absolutely LOVED each movie in this trilogy. The story is just amazing. My only gripe is that to me, this movie should have been called "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" and the first one should have been called "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes", but that about my only flaw. All 3 movies made me tear up at least a few times. Hoping that the new movie "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" keeps the momentum and incredible story going forward. 1 more year to go....
