This was a real story written by the brother. Their mother insisted on staying to watch the entire scene of Shelby being taken off the ventilator so that she could see Julia Roberts get up out of the bed. Apparently it was very cathartic for the family
@LovelyLies16
@LovelyLies16 Жыл бұрын
And the brother that wrote it was in the movie. He was the Priest/Pastor that was at the wedding/funeral for Shelby. And that trivia fact gets me so teary-eyed. The fact the real-life family wanted to see "Shelby" wake up from her coma even if it was purely fictional was enough for them. 😢

Thank you for appreciating Shirley MacLaines character Weezer. You are the first reaction who liked her. She’s easily my favorite character and I’m always shocked people don’t get the humor of her and just see her as mean.

"What if we just shut it off right now and pretend everything's fine?" It's so funny you say that. My husband had never seen the movie before we got together. He watched it all the way through one time, and still loves the entire first half of the movie, but refuses to watch the last half.

I have been to not one but TWO fabulous parties with a Steel Magnolias theme. We served Cajun food and bleeding armadillo grooms cake and we decorated for ALL the holidays at the same time. this is THE movie that I watch when I need a good cry. I am not generally a big Julia Roberts fan, but this being one of her first big movies was knocked out of the park. Stunning ensemble piece. I saw the play as well and it takes place in beauty parlor only and has no men.

when i first watched this movie i cried when i saw dolly closing the store before the funeral. my grandma looked just like that before papas funeral. i never seen her cry before til that day, I was 14, that was 2 years ago. it still hurts to wear black and walk into her house knowing i wont walk into the living room and see him sitting in his chair. he was tall, and quiet but a hell lot of fun.

Hello. Forgive me for being late, this is my first time, but have you been suggested to watch the movie, Splash ? I think you might enjoy reacting to that, if it isn’t one you’ve seen. It has Daryl Hannah, which in addition to this film, was also in Kill Bill and Kill Bill 2. I do dig your quirky personality and your laugh is absolutely infectious. I’m currently at ,12:41 in.

Greetings from south Louisiana! Absolutely adored your reaction; SUBSCRIBED💜 As a child, it was terrifying when my mother would have what we then called ‘a diabetic fit’. At home we always had juice in the fridge; otherwise Mama always had a roll of lifesavers (oh the irony) in her pocket or purse. I experienced my first personal episode at 30k feet. Yeesh. But the flt crew was amazing!!! I now have chronic kidney failure; the 2 really are so closely connected. Always feel like these ladies were the original Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, & Samantha +1 lol A country mouse v the city mouse kinda thing😂 I can never see this film too many times!!! Stay safe & love much💖

This movie was filmed in Natchitoches, Louisiana. It is especially significant to me because my last two years of high school were at the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts in Natchitoches. It is a little bigger city than the movie gives the impression of but many of the visuals and sights are very much the same.

Transplants have a higher chance of success the more closely related the donor is. The first successful transplant was a kidney donated by the patient's identical twin. They don't *have* to be related -- that's why the organ registry's a thing.

Don't know if anyone else has mentioned this in the comments, but your perception of the fiancee/husband was actually very insightful. In the book and in real life after Shelby dies Jackson takes full custody of Jack Jr. and refused to keep Shelby's family in his life. Which crushed her family because that's all they had left of Shelby. Type 1 diabetic Mom's are a different special breed.

Your views of small towns is sad. Natchitoches, La. where this was filmed, is 17,000 people, which is pretty large. Most of rural America is 3,000 people or less. I live in between three towns in Missouri. Sturgeon (3K), Hallsville (1.5K), and Harrisburg (260 people). And I graduated from a town a little further away called Madison at 500 people and my dad graduated from Paris, Mo just beyond that (pop 1,200). I have heard of none of the issues you describe.
