From the book- “What I need to survive is not Gale's fire, kindled with rage and hatred. I have plenty of fire myself. What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again. And only Peeta can give me that.” I think the development of her feelings for Peeta are clearer in the books only because you get the first person narration, inside her head you get to see the growth there. Can’t wait for you to see Songbirds and Snakes!

About Johanna - remember how in Catching Fire she said there was no one left she loved? After her Hunger Games she refused to be prostituted, so Snow had her complete family killed. When she and Katniss were going to get the wire to the water, she said that they should hurry up because she didn't want to be grilled. So, when the arena came down and she was snatched and kept prisoner together with Peeta and Annie, that's how they tortured her. They made her stand in water and electrocuted her. It was one of the most heartbreaking and disgusting storylines in the books, right up there with Finnick being prostituted at age 14 and the story of one friendly peacekeeper from Distict 12 that they cut from the movie.

Katniss kissing them was never about manipulation. She didn’t want to have romantic feelings for anyone. She kissed Gale for his benefit bc he clearly had feeling for her. Peeta in the other hand suck up on her, she developed real feelings for him while they were on the tour. They didn’t show it as much in the show but she slept in his arms ever night and it was the only thing that kept the nightmares at bay. His innate goodness brought her peace. In the book she said kissing peeta basically gave her butterflies, something she never felt with gale. But she was also very afraid that loving & losing would destroy her. That’s what happened to her mother when her dad died.

Something usually hybrid, that didn’t already exist, or is an addition to something preexisting. That’s why Peeta and Katniss have referred to each other as mutts, they’re saying the capitol created who they are now, and that they aren’t quite human anymore. Very sad

44:21 One thing they don't really touch on in the movies is the Victor's Purge. The Capitol killed all the Victors they thought would ally with the rebels, and the rebels killed all the Victors they thought would ally with the Capitol. Out of the 59 Victors still alive during the Quell, only 7 survived. Katniss, Peeta, and Haymitch from 12, Johanna from 7, Annie from 4, Beetee from 3, and Enobaria from 2, the lady with the shark teeth from the Quell. She was captured along side Johanna and Peeta after the 75th, but doesn't seem to have been messed up nearly as badly as they were. She also wasn't rescued by 13, which means she stayed in the Capitol for the duration of the war. Unfortunately we don't know like, anything about her, because it sounds like she'd have an interesting story to tell. Commander Lyme, the woman at 5:09, was also a Victor from 2, but since she doesn't show up in that meeting she must've died between the bombing of the Nut and the end of the war.

The movies really failed Peeta as a character. They really watered him down to almost nothing compared to what he was in the book. Peeta was so much more charismatic, fun and loving in the books. He truly loved Katniss unconditionally and all he wanted was her to be happy, with him or without, as long as she was happy, so was he. Unlike some other characters *cough* Gale *cough*. The third book was so hard to read as a Peeta fan. The capital absolutely destroyed him and with the exception of Finnick everyone treated him like trash even Katniss at first which was really disappointing, I do understand her reaction to some extent but Peeta, if the roles had been reversed, wouldn't have treated her that way. Katniss's truest love is her love for her sister. Primrose was the driving force behind many of her choices. The rest of the stuff that happens to her is based on someone else's choice. She won one Hunger Games but they still put her back in the arena, schemed behind her back, turned her into the Mockingjay, and manipulated her at every turn. A boy she genuinely cared about (and I'm not even meaning in a romantic way) was kidnapped and turned into a weapon to kill her. Yet, Gale is constantly whining about whether she loves him or not, and she's basically like, "I don't have time for that right now. I'm trying to keep my family and myself alive." and he just continues to whine and give her guilt trips. If Gale truly loved Katniss, he would have given her space and helped her heal from the trauma of TWO trips to the arena. Nope. He was only concerned about his needs and interests.

I think this film shows some of the more severe complexities of war. The rebels are in the right to take down Snow and his regime, but they also ended up committing atrocities, such as opening fire among the evacuating civilians or bombing the children. Like with wars in real history
@HRLastro2 күн бұрын
Katniss was grieving the loss of Peeta throughout the Mockingjay. She only kisses Gale because he's in pain and she thinks that what he wants in that moment and she also kisses him when she feels lonely. Here is a little scene from the book: When the rescue team came back from the capitol, she saw Finnick and Annie reunite, they were hugging and kissing. So when Katniss found out they rescued Peeta, she wanted him to see her first when he woke up, she thought he was going to kiss her or hug her but instead we know what happened. After that Katniss thought she'll never get him back. He was also one of the reasons why she was determined to kill snow. She thought she was going to die in process of doing that and Peeta will die insane and hating her. That's why she is trying to push her feelings for Peeta away, she's trying to feel nothing. I get that you are really confused about what Katniss was feeling during mockingjay but she's deeply traumatized and no one's is there to support her. The ending was more about the hope rather than a focus on a simple love story. Katniss wouldn't have lied to Peeta about her feelings, especially after the first Hunger Games. The final scene in the meadow takes place 15 years later. I'm glad we didn’t get to see the part where they gradually rebuilt their relationship, as every aspect of their "fake relationship" was preyed upon by the capitol. As much as I'd like to know about their relationship after everything, the author made the right decision.

A love watching creators watch this series for the first time, it's always so interesting to see all of your reactions! I always love to see people's reactions to Prims death as well as sad as it is. When the first movie was about to come out I was obsessed with the trailer and would watch it on repeat. I hadn't read any of the books yet and unlike some other movie series, when they started filming these all the books were published. So like an idiot I decided to read the comments under the trailer for the first video to see if others were also as excited as I was. Someone in the comments without marking it as a spoiler said something like "It's so sad that Katniss volunteers for Prim and does pretty much everything in the series for her sister only for Prim to die in the end anyway" and I remember being devastated! Like PERSON! So many people haven't read the books yet and you comment THAT on the trailer for the first movie??? One thing that I always love about the ending that a lot of people didn't like is that Katniss had children. The thing is, is that if they only watch the movies I understand why that seems so weird and like such a cliche happy ending and almost to happy of an ending. However in the books before the first reaping (at least I think its the first book) Katniss and Gale have a conversation and Gale talks about wanting kids later and Katniss says she will never have kids because she doesn't want to see them possible get reaped. So the fact we see her with two children shows she has accepted that she is safe and any kids she has are also safe from the fear of the hunger games, and I think that was a great way to show it honestly.

I know there are a lot of vocal people who will disagree with me. I just have to say I love how these films showed the information and let the viewers figure it out on our own. Take the passage of time. I've seen comments from people complaining that because we don't get to hear Katniss' thoughts, people who watch the films but don't read the books won't know she shut down for months. Except that information *is* there. The last time Katniss saw Johanna was in District 13, 2 to 3 days (I believe) before the double bombing in the Capitol. Katniss says "mom" in the hospital and then doesn't say anything else until she is shown wandering around the mansion before she goes into the greenhouse and Snow is there. Even the snow on the ground is a good visual indicator of how much time it's been, but I'm sticking with Johanna because, when Katniss next sees Johanna in the Capitol at the meeting of the remaining Victors, Johanna has around an inch of hair growth. On average, hair grows around half an inch a month, so if Johanna were healthy (not recovering from being tortured), it would indicate it's been two months since leaving district 13/the double bombing. But Johanna was tortured and very unhealthy, so the hair growth would have taken even longer. These films absolutely followed the rule 'show, don't tell.'

The movies are decent adaptations but they had to leave out so much and that meant we didn't get to see how much Katniss really did end up loving Peeta, it left out some really good characters and back stories, it caused some things to make no sense (like the group leaving an eccentric clothing shop without putting on any sort of disguises, because even though they do it in the book, it would look very silly and unserious for us to watch Katniss seeing Prim die while wearing goofy makeup), but the biggest omission was my favorite plot which saw Katniss and Johanna living together and becoming almost like sisters (as in, bothering the hell out of each other but you can still tell they care deep down). Suzanne Collins has already written a new book in the series called The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. This one is set at the time of the tenth Hunger Games. The book is an excellent read, but the movie in my opinion is terrible mainly because the actress they chose to play the protagonist Lucy Gray Baird was a very bad choice. Miss. Collins is in the process of writing a fifth book in the series set to take place during the 50th Hunger Games, (the games that Haymich won). Release date is scheduled to be March 18, 2025. I'm looking forward to buying and reading the new book and seeing the movie when it's released.

By now you surely have a lot on your plate with ASOIAF and Dune on top of everything else but if you're ever feeling for something less dense I'd recommened getting into these books.
