20 years later and this trilogy still holds today. I'm just glad it was made around that time. If it was made today, It would not be as great as it is. I'm glad to have read the books and seen all 3 in theatre and the extended when it came out. The Lord of the rings is the greatest movie trilogy ever made period. Peter Jackson and CO film all 3 movies in the same time span. That's pure dedication right there. A lot of movie production would've waited until the success of the first movie to decide when to start filming their next film. Jackson took a huge risk after getting rejected by so many studio and created this masterpiece.

They’re showing them in the theater near my house and tbh I want to go watch them in a theater setting. They deserve to be seen on the big screen at least once.

You are 100% right about Sam. Even Tolkien himself said that Sam was the most important character of them all.

Denethor isn't the King of Gondor. He's the Steward. A steward takes care of an estate or kingdom while the lord or king is away, too young or missing. Aragorn was in hiding for a long time after his father died so Denethor was just taking care of Gondor until the true king returned to claim his throne. Sam is the MVP but Frodo is a hero for carrying the heavy, constant weight and evil of the ring as far as he did. In the book Frodo never turned his back on Sam. Neither of them EVER trusted Gollum. The rong tried to corrupt Sam but all Sam wanted was his own little garden. The Witch King is using a flail. It uses a mace like head attached to a base by a chain. It took both Merry's Noldorin blade to break the spell and Eowyn stabbing him to kill the Witch King. They were both poisoned by contact with the Witch King. If Aragorn hadn't been there with the special healing and medicine only he remembered both Eowyn and Merry would have died.

This 3 movies got 17 oscars, also if you want to dive into this, you should buy/rent books by Tolkien Silmarilion, Hobbit and LOTR all 3 parts and that would be perfect journey for you, Peter Jackson didn't make extremely changes from the books just a small ones, like for example in Two Towers in defending of Helms Deep never elves came it was just hand of people who was defending it and so on. I watch this movie last 12 years every month extended editions, and I always get thrilled like I am watching 1st time. As Tolkien told everyone in their life need friend like Samwise Gamgee ! Cheers !

You'll be happy to know that Sam and Frodo so see each other again. My lore knowledge is rusty but the short version is Sam becomes Mayor of the Shire, is beloved by the entire community and lives a happy life. Eventually he leaves and joins Frodo in the Undying Lands (Valinor) which is basically the homeland of the Elves where literal Gods lived. Frodo left because of how the journey had affected him personally, his wound from the Witch King never healed and even with the Ring gone is still had a profound effect on him. I think Tolkien was alluding to PTSD having served in war himself. Bilbo was also given the honor since he was a Ringbearer (holder of a ring of power) and Sam was given the same invitation since he was also briefly a Ringbearer. Merry and Pippen were buried next to Aragon's eventual tomb (he ruled about 120 years) to honor them as heroes in The War of the Ring. Legolas and Gimli traveled together and remained great friends, showing each other wonders of their respective homelands. Gimli set the 3 hairs Galadriel gave him in in crystal to preserve them forever. Loved your reaction man, looking forward to what else you get into. Also, I would recommend watching The Hobbit. You'll enjoy them since you haven't read the book. It's not even that they mess up the story or anything, they just added a lot of stuff to stretch it into 3 movies. They are not as good as LOTR, but they are still fun, and I think you'd enjoy them. Part of the reason is they use A LOT more CGI in The Hobbit, but it is better CGI than they used in LOTR. Love your stuff man

Anybody would have been corrupted by the ring... Most more quickly than Frodo was. It a miracle he made it that far. You learn more about the "undying lands" in the Silmarillion (pre-dates the Hobbit and covers the formation of middle earth). Sam eventually joins Frodo there because he was also a ring bearer. :)

The story ends after this, tolkein wrote a little about some evil tree and some new characters set a few hundred years after the peaceful reign of aragorn but in the end the story wasnt too worth it so he cancelled it

They haven't made any movie present day that could possibly compete with his trilogy even though it was made 20 years ago. I don't think it was too easy for Frodo, even though he was carried into the fortress, he was attacked and stabbed by the spider beforehand. At the end of the movie Frodo did not know Gandalf was still alive until he woke up and saw him there.

Ahhhh these reactions have been great! I was really looking forward to you seeing Sam at the end since you liked him since the first film. Evokes so many emotions! 😭 They actually do a great job of making you assume all the characters won’t survive. It’s kind of amazing how many do, looking back. But it still puts you through the ringer! One reason of course is Boromir and the suspenseful ending of the first film, as well as “losing” Gandalf. Though it’s also because of the high emotions and focus on grief, mortality, hope, etc. Before this, it was rare to see so many men crying in movies. I don’t think the Hobbit movies are very good (in fact I don’t think I’ve seen the last one from beginning to end), but I think your reactions would probably be hilarious. So I would love to see them! XD

I mean, I would be remissed if I didn't recommend watching Fellowship and Two Towers extended. There's just so much to Middle Earth that it would take a lifetime to research Tolkein's works. If you have any questions, I will gladly answer them.

"They do a really good job of making it look like things are going poorly and then they actually end up going good in the end." J.R.R. Tolkien wrote a famous essay "On Fairy-Stories" in which he coined the word "eucatastrophe"--the opposite of "catastrophe," where instead of an unexpected change for the worst, there is an unexpected change for the best. ROTK ends on a whole series of eucatastrophes. Critics may quibble, but Tolkien did it very deliberately.

If you decide to watch The Hobbit, please know the extended edition is REALLY worth it. I originally bought the theatrical release when The Hobbit came out and then after watching the extended edition, I threw out my theatrical release and purchased the extended edition......and I will not be watching anything but the extended version of The Hobbit going forward. It's that much better. I'm trying to save you from my mistake.

For crying out loud, I wish this gatekeeping thing never started. Watch The Hobbit movies. They’re fantastic. Why should it matter to anyone new to Tolkien that they don’t perfectly adhere to the book. Neither did this trilogy. Don’t let others opinions stop you from watching movies and making up your own mind.

It would be a hoot if you reacted to the Hobbit cartoon first, then the movies. The Hobbit trilogy gets a bad rap because it takes some huge liberties with the original story, but it’s still well done, well acted, and very entertaining if you aren’t a hardcore book purist. Fun fact: my kids’ favorite game when they were about 4 and 6 was “gimme your hand.” I swear they re-enacted that scene from this movie at least twice a day for a solid year. The eldest made an imaginary friend out of Pippin as a toddler and blamed him for anything he did wrong. “I didn’t eat the cookies! It was pippin. I told him to not to, but him did it.”

Lol why cheer Sam’s name? Frodo is the one carrying the ring and giving the ultimate sacrifice. Sam is doing his part in helping just like the rest of the fellowship. Also, Sam is not Frodo’s best friend. Sam is Frodo’s servant.

This is a stupid take. The loyalty and bravery Sam shows throughout the journey definitely makes him a hero in his own right. And to just say Sam is frodo's servant and nothing else is pretty unintelligent. They are obviously bonded to a much deeper level than a boss and employee

Without Sam, Frodo would not even make it that far. Sam kept Gollum at bay. Took the ring off Frodo when he was capture by the orcs. Never gave in to the power of the ring while Frodo did. If Sam was not there. Frodo would've gotten capture and the ring would've gone back to Sauron.

Sam: Defeated the spider Shelob. Carried Frodo up Mount Doom on his back. Merry: helped Eowen kill a mumakil and a nazgul, on the same day. Pippin: Engineered the destruction of Isengard. Lit the beacons. Jump in a burning pyre to save Faramir. Jumped on a cave trolls back and forced it to expose it's throat, so Legolas could kill it. Frodo: Briefly considered throwing a ring in a volcano. Changed his mind.

ONLY THEATRICALS! FORTH EORLINGAS! 6:55 as i said in part 1 of your reaction - Denethor was fucked mentally by Sauron after using a Palantir. Théoden is A BADASS 7:52 i'm boiling rn 9:00 that's why i hate extended edition. The pacing and anticipation get destroyed with those added scenes. After the encounter with the undead we don't know if they will help or not only to be surprised when they show up at Pelennor fields. Those scenes here ruin that initial surprise by showing that they agreed to help 9:28 junkie as i said. Also, Sam was an actual gardener for Frodo and was like 30 years younger than him 13:16 just to point that BS out - the Witch King would never overpower Gandalf; it makes no sense. Gandalf was on the same level as Sauron and the Nazgûl were just humans that got possessed and buffed tbh 13:17 OH BOY, OH BOY 13:58 !!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHERE IS THEODEN'S SPEECH?! WHERE IS THE CHARGE!? WHERE IS IT?! Aaaaaaa! 15:18 WHERE IS THEODEN'S "REFORM THE LINE! SOUND THE CHARGE! TAKE THEM HEAD ON!"?! Aaaaaa! 16:04 OH BOY, OH BOY 16:27 niece* 20:00 no, i'm not talking about that 20:11 yeah, only theatricals. Those scenes weren't included for a reason giving the fact that people might think that Éowyn died but she later appears as nothing happened 21:17 that's literally what JRR Tolkien said - that Sam's the real hero of the story 25:45 i lol'd 29:25 Three Eagles. 3 FORTH EORLINGAS!

I feel like Theoden got the the short end of the stick in the movies. All the book readers I talk to make him sound a lot cooler than he came across in the movies. Also I agree the extended editions are cool, it’s nice to get that extra backstory, but the pacing is much better in the theatrical versions.
