@@sandyae92 in the comics the mask is left more ambiguous, earliest we see it is when it's owned by an unknown tribe in africa. Calling it the mask of Loki was hinted at in this movie, and confirmed in the awful sequel "Son of the Mask" I do think the animated series also hinted at a norse origin. But this is stuff that was only in media outside of the comics. (except for the animated series' tie in comics obviously since its a different canon.)

The Mask is based on a comic book series. The Mask in the comic book series was far more violent. Tex Avery was a big influence for this movie. The sequence with the wolf was based on a Tex Avery character. Tex Avery also did the animation for The Woody Woodpecker Show. Also Jim Carrey was lip synching when he sang "Cuban Pete". That's Desi Arnaz singing the song. He was married to Lucille Ball who played Lucy in "I Love Lucy". He played her husband Ricky. Also this was Cameron Diaz's first movie. She has retired from acting.

Considering Jessica Rabbit is intended to be a female lounge singer from the swing band days, and Cameron Diaz is playing exactly such a lounge singer in exactly such a club in this movie... the resemblance is in no way accidental, because it's the same character role. That's like saying in a different movie they made someone into John Wayne just because they're playing a cowboy. In her case, Cameron Diaz did a good job emulating the performance style, even though she couldn't sing, and the dubbing is not overtly obvious. It was actually pretty well done, particularly for the 90s.

My Least is Cable Guy, you could state your argument that since the role is of a psyche that is more demanding, but fails to connect like the other roles. I prefer Dumb and dumber to Cable Guy. I also like Eternalsunshine of the Mind, Plus his Starting Role in Once Bitten. HAve to be a fan if I know about Once Bitten. I Love Bruce Almighty! So I guess three-way for the #4 spot then.

6:00 The Mask was based off a Darkhorse Comics series. A series of horror comics which feature different individuals wearing the mask and how they handle it's powers. However when they made the movie, initially they were gonna go the Horror route even getting Chuck Russel of The Blob and A Nightmare On Elm Street 3 as director, but they couldn't find a way to do the Horror right, so they made it into a superhero comedy.

This definitely isn’t for kids, which just made kids want to go see it. How, then do you convince your parents to see it when it’s that obvious? Ask to see something you know your parents definitely don’t want to see first, then when they say no as you know they will, suggest The Mask. And that is how 11 year old me got to see what became my favorite movie of the summer. Yeah, we get he’s a reality bending anti-hero who does some terrible things, but can we say we wouldn’t do the same to at least one car mechanic we’ve known in our lifetime? Or done a bad Pepe Le Peu- ok, that really didn’t age well. At least the film doesn’t linger on the disturbing implications of the mask bespelling everyone around him. The Mask was originally a VERY dark and violent comic series, but they decided to make it a comedy for this movie. The mask was made by Loki, the god of mischeif and it gives the wearer the power of chaos. Depending on the wearer's personality, the mask's form of power changes. Its established early in the film that Stanley is a fan of Looney Tunes and other cartoons and that part of him is generally suppressed by most things in his life. Therefore, his power is the power of looney tunes, like how anything and everything fits in his pockets and how he can't be killed by things like guns and bombs. This also means that with the mask, his confidence rises because that part of him is no longer suppressed, but exagerated to an extensive level. Dorian's rage and aggresive tendencies grow significantly when he has the mask. Milo's relentless biting of frisbees is instantly turned into a dangerous bark and vicious sharp teeth when he wears the mask. I freaking love this movie, it was one of my childhood favorites and I still quote it to this day.

A slightly little known fact about this movie: it is MUCH more kid friendly (yeah) than the comic book series it is based on. The comic book version has the Mask (aka, Big Head) as a villain. People lose all sense of self control when wearing the mask and often end up killing people because they find it funny. Stanley himself is on one story arc, with different people getting the mask at different parts of the series and they ALL go evil while wearing it. It is implied the mask itself is partially controlling them to make them act out their evilest impulses.

Chicks love nice guys, the problem is if you say you want to be friends and they either turn into a jerk (because they were only being nice to get with you, not just because) or they complain about no girls wanting them and always being alone to try to guilt trip you, which is not what actual nice guys do. Plus we’ve been told by rom coma our entire life that nice guys are boring and that you need to find a jerk or emotionally unavailable man and change him😂🤦🏼‍♀️ Absolutely love this movie, it’s one of my favorites in general and definitely one of, if not my absolute favorite, of Jim Carrey’s!
