Odin cursed the hammer and banished Thor because he was unworthy. Only one who is worthy can lift the hammer. Once Thor proved he was worthy, he could lift the hammer again and regained his powers.

The hammer appears heavy to those unworthy that try to lift it. It’s actual weight (according to a trading card from the 90s) is 42.3 pounds Yup, that’s Hawkeye. Clint Barton Trivia about the name Donald Blake: In the comics, Thor was originally a regular guy with that name who found a magic walking stick that when he tapped against something would transform into mjolnir and himself into Thor. Later it was retconned that Donald was the real Thor all along, banished like in this movie but with no memory of who he really was, Donald Blake being a persona Odin invented. Odin eventually restores him to full asgardian. Oh! That ended a bit abruptly 😂
