So Harry’s assistant at 13:51 is actually a important character in Spider-Man lore named Felicia Hardy who is also a thief/vigilante named Black Cat who started off as a foe to Peter but soon became one of his main love interests. She & Peter have a on again off again Batman/Catwoman type of relationship. She’s actually my favorite love interest because I enjoy their dynamic. They have this chemistry that is sweet but also funny/playful. If Peter has a top 3 best girlfriends, most people would say MJ, Gwen, & Felicia. Unfortunate we never see her suited up as Black Cat in this movie but was meant to set up a spin off movie that never happen. Though if you watch some Spidey shows or games, you’ll probably see her there.

ohh awe so, at least for live action movies, we won't really be seeing a universe where Peter is with Felicia? Everyone is mentioning the comics and the shows so im very much tempted to get into those! It's amazing how much lore there are to these movies hahaha

11:56 So this version of the Goblin is kind of similar to the Ultimate Universe, where Norman doesn’t wear a suit but instead turns into a huge creature that looks like a mix of the Hulk and a Goblin. That happens because he tests the OZ Formula on himself, combining it with his own blood, Oz Formula was given to spiders which is how Peter got his powers, Oscorps attempt at trying to recreate the super soldier serum. In the film, though, it’s a degenerative disease created for the movie that gives the person a Goblin-like skin color and long nails. 17:33 This version of Electro is inspired by the Ultimate Universe, where Electro is fully covered in blue electricity. In the mainline comics, though, he's just a guy in a green and yellow suit with yellow electric powers. I was never a big fan of the blue Electro, but I absolutely love his theme in this film, and Jamie Foxx is great in the role. 18:37 The big white eyes on Spider-Man’s suit are a fun throwback to Ultimate Spider-Man, where he’s got those large white eyes. He’s also a bit shorter than your average Peter Parker, and while Andrew Garfield is taller, the big eyes definitely give off Ultimate Spider-Man vibes. Todd McFarlane’s Spider-Man from the '90s also had big white eyes, so I can totally see that as an influence too, especially since Ultimate Spider-Man came about a decade later in 2000. There’s also a “Project Venom” file on Harry’s computer, which hints that Venom might be a lab creation in this universe rather than an alien from space. In the Ultimate Universe, scientists Richard Parker and Eddie Brock Sr. worked together on a project to develop a way to heal humanity of disease and illness, creating a symbiotic bio-suit called "Project Venom." The project wasn’t completed until Peter and Eddie discovered it, taking over their fathers work leading to the Black Suit story-line in the Ultimate Universe, where Peter takes the suit, and later, Eddie becomes Venom. Peter was around 16 during this time while Eddie was a little older in college. It’s also worth mentioning that in the Ultimate Universe, Peter’s parents were scientists, which is also the case in this film. In the mainline comics, though, they were secret agents working under the CIA and later S.H.I.E.L.D. Both versions of the story involve their deaths in a plane crash, but the circumstances are different. In the Ultimate Universe, they were killed by Bolivar Trask, while in the mainline comics, it was by an agent of the Red Skull. A lot of inspiration from the Ultimate Universe can be seen in Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man. It makes sense, though, since the Ultimate Universe was a more "realistic" reimagining of the Marvel universe, which is what The Amazing Spider-Man was going for, especially after the success of The Dark Knight.

@@janeybun Ultimate Spider-Man is a fantastic introduction to the character. The whole Ultimate Universe was created to give new readers an easy entry point into a re-imagined Marvel Universe for the 21st century with no prior history, beginning with Ultimate Spider-Man #1 (2000). Ultimate Spider-Man is almost structured like a teen drama TV series. If you want to dive deeper into the mainline Spider-Man of Earth-616, I recommend Spider-Man: Life Story. This series explores Peter Parker's life in real-time, starting in the 1960s and moving through the decades into the 2010s, aging all the characters realistically. It covers all the iconic story-lines but just ages everyone in real time. Another excellent choice is Spider-Man: Blue. It’s an emotional story that delves into Peter Parker’s reflections on the loss of Gwen Stacy. It’s an amazing read and I high recommend.

@@janeybun Ultimate Spider-Man (2000 - 2014) is a great introduction, 100%. It begins with Ultimate Spider-Man #1 (2000), which kickstarted a whole new continuity, so no past reading is needed. It's like jumping into the MCU with Iron Man (2008) whole new continuity that grows with each new movies. Just a heads up, there’s also a new Ultimate imprint, including Ultimate Spider-Man (2024), which launched in January. This series establishes a whole new continuity that has roots in the original Ultimate Universe but is very much its own thing. It’s an amazing read, some of the best Spider-Man content in years, and I highly recommend it. For context, back in 2015, the Ultimate Universe was destroyed during Secret Wars (2015) when it collided with the Mainline Marvel Universe. In the aftermath, survivors of the Ultimate Universe, like Miles Morales and his family, were rewritten into the history of the Mainline Marvel Universe. Meanwhile, The Maker, a villain from the Ultimate Universe, also found his way into the Mainline Universe. In 2023, we got Ultimate Invasion, which followed The Maker’s attempt to recreate the Ultimate Universe. He stole plans from the Fantastic Four's Baxter Building, containing the history of every hero who existed on Earth-616 and then traveled to a parallel universe resembling Earth-616 (Mainline Universe) and manipulated key events, such as preventing the spider from biting Peter Parker, stopping the Fantastic Four’s fateful space launch, and ensuring Thor’s banishment from Asgard. Essentially, The Maker crafted a universe in his image, eliminating potential threats before they could rise. This Earth is known as Earth-6160. Ultimate Spider-Man takes place in this new universe, following a 30-something-year-old Peter Parker who is married to MJ and has two kids. In this reality, Peter never became Spider-Man, until now. The series explores an adult, married Peter Parker stepping into the role of Spider-Man, offering a fresh take on the character. There are also intriguing twists on other characters, like the Green Goblin, but I’ll avoid going into too much detail to avoid spoilers. Summed up: Ultimate Universe (Earth-1610) is the original Ultimate Universe that began with Ultimate Spider-Man #1 (2000) Ultimate Universe (Earth-6160) is the new Ultimate Universe that began with Ultimate Invasion (2023) but officially began with Ultimate Spider-Man #1 (2024) Both are great and offer something differant.

The Night Gwen Stacy Died (1973) also known as The Green Goblin's Last Stand heavily inspired the events surrounding the death of Gwen Stacy in this movie. In the comics Norman Osborn recovers from his amnesia and remembers everything from the Green Goblin to the fact that Peter is Spider-Man. Kind of like what happened with Harry in Spider-Man 3 (2007). The Green Goblin then abducts Gwen Stacy, luring Spider-Man to the top of the Brooklyn Bridge. Goblin and Spider-Man clash, and the Goblin throws Gwen off the bridge. Spider-Man manages to web her, as seen in the movie, but like in the film, she dies from the whiplash of the sudden stop. Peter then takes down Norman, and they fight until Norman is impaled on his own glider. This event happened in Spider-Man 1 as well, except they used MJ instead of Gwen and it was set onto of the Queensboro Bridge. This comic is regarded as one of the most pivotal Spider-Man stories outside of Peter's origin, and one of the most important comics of all time. It was one of the first instances of a major comic book character being killed off, and many people consider it the moment that ended the Silver Age of Comics and helped usher in the Bronze Age. The Silver Age of comics was heavily regulated by the Comics Code Authority, which was founded in 1954 in response to public outrage over violent comics. Many even held comic burning events where people would burn comic books. This is why comics in the 1950s were much more campy and colorful. For example, Batman went from gritty Noir inspired stories during the '40s to colorful wacky adventures by the '50s. By the mid-1970s, comics started moving away from these regulations, and by the 1980s, both DC and Marvel began exploring more mature and darker storytelling. The death of Gwen Stacy marked the beginning of this shift.
@janeybun17 күн бұрын
Woah, I really don't know much about comics so I'm curious to learn more. It's unfortunate that there were events held to burn those comics but its really cool learning how comics have changed overtime. The transition and the fact the shift began with Gwen Stacy's death is fascinating thank you so much for sharing this.

Good video! This movie was seen as people’s least favorite Spider-Man movie due to studio interference on wanting to create/rush a cinematic universe with Spider-Man characters. That’s what the ending with Rhino was. Harry wanting to build a team was a reference to a super villain team called The Sinister Six who in the comics are villains of Spider-Man working together to get rid of him. Amazing Spider-Man 2 was suppose to set up a movie about them but due to the poor reception Amazing Spider-Man 2 had, they cancelled it. Unfortunately you now know Gwen’s fate. This was her fate in the comics. Gwen died in Spider-Man issue 121 (1973) during a battle between Peter & Green Goblin (who was Harry’s dad under the mask). Goblin threw Gwen off a bridge and Peter shot a web to catch her but it snapped her neck. Aside from Uncle Ben, Gwen’s death to this day haunts Peter blaming himself. However, Gwen’s death did have Peter & Mary Jane (who was Gwen’s friend) getting closer & eventually fell in love. MJ was gonna be introduced in the next Amazing Spider-Man but was cancelled.

My biggest complaint about this one is Sony was trying too hard to set up a cinematic universe. They laid the groundwork for a Sinister Six movie that never happened. In the comics, the Sinister Six is a team of Spider-Man's enemies. The original team was: Doctor Octopus (leader) Kraven the Hunter Mysterio Vulture Sandman Electro

I saw this in a packed movie theatre and thought it wasn’t as bad. Electro falling in electric eels was a bit goofy and so w Rhino. Too bad we didn’t get the Black Cat (Felicia Hardy) just a tease to her character. She is similar to Catwoman. Just again the same where too many villains and Sony forcing their Sinister Six team up. Sadly I knew immediately of Gwen Stacy’s fate but Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield had tons more chemistry than Tobey and Kirsten as Peter and MJ ever had. I hope you will also watch both Spiderverse animated movies. Thanks again!

Felicia (Hardy)! She’s a significant character. She’s traditionally a thief who dresses in black and a white wig and goes by Black Cat. And she has the _hots_ for Spider Man. Not Peter, though, that’s a whole thing. The trailers showed that Sinister Six setup vault, and something that got removed was some kind of black blob, implying the symbiote that would lead to Venom. They replaced it with the Rhino suit. And here is what Gwen Stacy is most known for: dying. Not from this movie, from comics. Her death in the comics is one of the biggest things in comic book history, and she’s one of the few characters not brought back to life after dying. Fake outs, clones, alt universe counterparts, but never the actual Gwen. I’ve heard a couple times that there was an alternate idea for Gwen’s fate, but now I can’t find anything on it except from IMDb trivia. An earlier draft had her surviving, but critical, so Peter does an emergency transfusion with his blood that saves her but also gives her spider powers. She ends up becoming his partner in crime fighting called White Widow. •A Spider version of Gwen would actually appear in comics months after this movie. An alternate universe Gwen who got bit instead of Peter. Spider-Woman aka Ghost Spider, and colloquially Spider-Gwen. She’s become quite popular. I mentioned one infamous Avi Arad with Spider Man 3. Gwen’s death is another part of his infamy! Disney was looking to integrate Spider Man into the MCU, and Sony has always maintained a tight grip. So Avi’s brilliant idea to dissuade them was to get rid of the aspect of Andrew’s Spidey that people liked most: his relationship with Gwen. So let’s fast track her famous death! •Nowadays of course we do have Tom Holland Spidey in the MCU via a deal with Sony. May we see this guide you’re using? Yeah Max is most likely dead. Same mystery guy (The Gentleman) from the first movie 😬 No more TASM movies, it was just these two. Tom Holland’s your next Spidey, and that’s way down the line. But people have been wanting Andrew to have a third movie for a long time
