The Maverick and Iceman scene proved that despite being rivals in the past. Iceman always had his back after Goose dead. The original movie is timeless. But this, this was....as close to perfection as Hollywood can deliver. This was the best produced movie I've seen in decades. The cinematography, the heart. Like you said, it wasn't a cash grab, they wanted to deliver a great product, and they did. It won the Oscar for best sound, but I think it deserved so many more. I enjoy other movies like Marvel movies and Everything Everywhere, but I LOVE this movie.
@BHSRugby1999 Жыл бұрын
I will agree, that this film deserved a lot more wins. Production wise, it is amazing. It wasn’t best picture worthy, but production, editing, cinematography, adapted screenplay all stellar. I really think it should have taken more wins at the academy awards. All Quiet on the Western Front won both production and cinematography, Everything Everywhere won best editing, Women Talking won adapted screenplay. I think this film should have walked away with at least 4 awards. All Quiet was it’s stiffest competition. If the academy had an award for most impactful to the industry, as voted by the academy and fans alike, this would have taken the award.

F-14 Tomcats helped keep the peace for over three decades, and was the only US Navy jet since Vietnam to score aerial victories in combat (2). The only reason it was retired was because of the cost to keep them flying, and to keep any chance of Iran getting pirated spare parts, for Iran was the only other country that had the F-14 in its inventory.

Retired Navy lady here. I joined in 1993, eight years or so after TG came out. Loved the original and was a big reason why I joined the Navy vs another branch. Seeing TGM after serving 22 years was a different experience than when watching TG, and not only because of my age difference. I have mixed feelings about this movie. As a huge fan of the original, I absolutely love this sequel. As a sailor, my heart swelled with pride watching, yet had a lot of heartache and pain, too, and not because of some inaccuracies of proper military protocol. Overall, I F-ing loved the movie. Just wow. All three actors who played the Admirals were spot on. I felt properly intimidated when they were on-screen. And no, I didn’t like Jon Hamm’s character, either, until after a few times watching it. Tom and Val as a Captain and Admiral felt a little different. I didn’t feel as though I was seeing high ranking officers; had to remind myself of their rank to get a bigger impact of the dynamics, something I couldn’t do with the original. Military experience has given me a different perspective. I would strongly suggest watching the behind the scenes to understand to what lengths they went to to ensure they not only got it right, but to add realism to the movie. Few-to-no green screens used and CGI is relatively minimal. (Don’t hate on the Tomcat scene, y’all.). No, most of the actors did not learn how to fly, but did go through rigorous flight training to be able to pull off looking like pilots. Watch the behind the scenes. ALL of them. Trust me. Especially for the cinematography aspects. We invent and play some…interesting sports in the military. Changes things up and we have fun. Two that come to mind are ultimate football and walleyball - not VOLLEYball. I absolutely loved playing both. Walleyball is volleyball played in a racquetball court, the ball is made of racquetball material. Walls are used. Fun, fun, fun! Ultimate football is kind of a cross of soccer and football. Played with a football which is thrown or tossed (passed) from person to person. No kicking like in soccer, but gameplay is similar to it. The person with the ball cannot move, can only pass. Really friggin fun. Exercise without realizing it’s exercise. Jennifer Connelly plays Penny Benjamin, who was mentioned at the beginning of TG. The “admiral’s daughter” when getting chewed out for buzzing the tower and finding out Mav and Goose are going to Top Gun. So Mav and Penny have known each other for decades. The plane at the very end is Tom Cruise’s in real life. And go watch the behind the scenes. Really. ❤

I had to laugh watching those videos when some of the actors got cocky and went through the dunker again only for it to almost backfire on them. As someone who went through that once was more than enough for me. The actors got so good at their roles that while filming they were actually mistaken for real officers on base. John Hamm almost gave one real petty officer a heart attack catching them off guard. I was a teen when TG came out in theaters in 86. It was a tremendous experience to see this blockbuster. A young Lt. Pete Mitchell, at the start of a career...and with still so much to learn. I'm now a man in his 50's, at a crossroads in my life, and I could relate to so much of what I saw in TGM, especially in the character of Captain Pete Mitchell, a man who is facing the end of a career, and an uncertain future. TGM is probably one of the best legacy films ever to be made (and far superior to it's predecessor). It hit home at so many levels. This was also the ultimate summer blockbuster (that I caught over a dozen times in the theaters....with a number of the viewing in IMAX and/or at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood). Tom Cruise, and his great cast (both in front and behind the cameras), hit a home run.

That was actually Tom Cruise & Jennifer Connally doing that Barrel roll in the end scene. It's his P51 Mustang and she feared flying. He asked if she trusted him. That's why you see shots of the two of them in his P51.

This was an amazing movie and I enjoyed how much you liked it. One thing I would like to point out about this film that I really appreciated was that the 'enemy territory' was unspecified and ethnicity was kept vague. Tom Cruise said this movie will be about flying let's not bring politics into this, and I RESPECT that!

Fun fact: that maneuver that the 5th gen fighter did is called the kvochur bell and is a maneuver created by Russia along with the planes they flew being Russian su-57s, russias first 5th gen plane and their first stealth plane

One of my favorite Easter eggs in this movie is Jennifer Conelly’s intro while Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” plays in the background.

Did you catch Glenn Powell's easter egg to the first movie? he hits 86 on the jukebox keypad. It was missed until post when they caught what he had done and all the cast and crew had a good laugh over it.

Technically Goose’s death is Iceman’s fault because it was Iceman’s error that put Mav and Goose’s plane in that situation

What You probably didn't know is in the ending scene when Tom Cruise Flys away with his love interest in the old fighter plane that was actually his personal fighter plane From his collection he has several planes that he owns.

You need to watch how this movie was made. The Navy would NEVER hand over a billion dollar plane to actors.

I don't understand how ANYONE would think the Navy allowed actors, pilots or not, to fly an aircraft worth over a billion dollars. Your right, he needs to watch how it was made.

The stats of this film is crazy: The #1 movie of 2022. Best sequel of 2022. #1 movie of the decade. The 2nd film to gross over $1 billion in the movie theatre re-booming during Covid-19. Tom Cruise's biggest movie ever. A great story with so much nostagia of the original. The director, Joseph Kosinski has worked with Cruise before on the movie, Obilvion (2013). To be made and be made as real as possible makes this a great piece of work. Seeing Val Kilmer as Iceman again was so heartwarming, especially with knowing what he's really gone through. Top Gun has the longest running video game series, based on an film ever (1986-2010). The 18th and final game on PS3 subtitled "Hard Lock" (2010) and the plot is set years after the first film. Maverick as an instructor to a new generation of pilots and his best student, Lance Webb aka Spider taking on an elite special mission (predating the movie sequel's story, crazy). But in any event, the years of waiting for TG:M to was so worth the admission.

Yup. They were riding in actual F/A18 Super Hornets (after a brief, legit flight training phase, including water survival) flown by US navy fighter pilots (mostly Blue Angels). So, the expressions on their faces when they're pulling 6-7 G's is NOT acting.
@BabySpiegel Жыл бұрын
And them G's ain't no joke

Only one former Blue Angel pilot flew the really low flying scenes. Regular fleet pilots flew the majority of the scenes. None of the actors received any flight training, other than how to eject.

@@yxeaviationphotog They went through water survival training, including the inverted crash escape drill.
@yxeaviationphotog Жыл бұрын
@@sonar357 Yup....I'm aware. But they never received any flight training in the Super Hornet. I assume you meant flight training as in they were given the basics on how the jet flies?

My call sign would be Ninja because when I was in the Navy, the command master chief gave me the nickname Silent Assassin because I stayed so low key he would personally see if I was on board the ship yet I was good at my job during exercises without taking damage or even being close to losing, he said I could be an assassin. Mach is the speed of sound relative to the atmosphere around you, so it's not really a specific speed. I usually just assume it's close to 660mph. So...10x that give or take.
