Yes, the son figured out his mom was a tethered because twice he saw her murder one the tethereds, and she looked like and made noises just like them. The reason Red had a hard time talking was because once she was underground no one could speak so she stopped talking for years. Adelaide said at the beach she has a hard time talking, it's because she is a tethered and they never spoke to begin with. She had to literally learn to speak but her parents and the therapist wrote it off as her being traumatized.

The takeaway so many people have with "Us" is that "The clone Adelaide we follow is the true villain for stealing the ORIGINAL Adelaide's life" But that is what is interesting: The reason "Red" AKA the original Adelaide wants to get revenge is for being forced to live in those tunnels, correct? So living in the tunnels is a bad thing, obviously. And yet, when the cloned Adelaide escaped the tunnels - we're supposed to hate her for wanting the exact same thing that Red wanted? Because it's almost like saying "the poor people should stay suffering in the poor place and the well-off people should stay well off" when it's much more complicated than that. I think Peele was making a statement about the “I got mine so fuck yours”/always wanting something better mentality of the USA. Adelaide’s husband is constantly jealous of their rich friends and their possessions; meanwhile the tethered are mad at the surface dwellers for enjoying a life of luxuries they take for granted. And the people at the top, the rich Tylers, who have it all, are still miserable. It’s an attitude infecting America…which BTW this film has Hands across AMERICA, a thing that was meant to “combat” poverty. Red responding to Gabe “We’re Americans!” United States = US. This movie is about the U.S. and this movie is about “us” as a country. THAT is the whole conversation that Peele was trying to start, I believe.

I would add that, the clone wanting to escape is fair, but that to escape she did to someone else the very thing she despised and wanted to escape from - and thats why it is hard to feel sorry for her.

I would also add to this that there's a point where Red said "you could have taken me with you." So it shows that Original Adelaide did not want her tethered to go back down there and live in such conditions, and she was okay with both of them living on the surface together.

Get Out was about racism, Nope was about exploitation, this was about class/ haves and have nots. This movie has so many clever horror references like Jason always wearing a mask, the twins dead bodies set up like in The Shining, home invasion involving people wearing the same clothes like Funny Games. There's so much detail.

Jordan Peele does not play. His work is a breath of fresh air, always on point, his attention to detail and the way he touches on subjects in such an unique way, you can see his passion for what he does in every film he makes. Also, he’s a 10/10 not only as a director, but dude’s also one of the best comedians in world??? Like, wow. We’re lucky to live in the same generation as Peele.

It's makes more and sense as you rewatch the film. The tethered are recreating Hands Across America, which would've been one of the last things Red would've remembered as a child. The home invasion is important because it gives an early clue that Red was the real Adelaide. She knows where the extra keys are and the layout of the house itself. That's also why she says our home, because it is rightfully hers. Adelaide (the main lead) is shown to be fake one from the beginning as well with clues like being a vegetarian, not wanting to go to the beach, quiting dance, the noises she makes when killing. The final clue is knowing how to get to the tunnels without being shown beforehand, meaning she lived there. The son now knows his mother is a tethered because he's the only one to witness her behavior multiple times..but he heard everything between Red and Adelaide. The reason why Adelaide wants to go to Mexico is because the experiment was only done in the States. There's also clues in the vhs tapes in the beginning.

@@christopherwilliams8229 I think Adelaide was the one who learned how to dance, probably as a form of her therapy. And Red, who was shadowing her, danced for the tethered and became their symbol of hope. She even says to Adelaide "Without you, I never would have danced at all." I do find it interesting tho that even tho Red was the original, being placed underground relinquished any control she had over to Adelaide. Good connection to the themes of classism.

Hey Zzavid. Fun fact, Lupita’s voice in the movie is based off a condition called Spasmodic Dysphonia. She studied it closely to perfect her role. It sounds the same, except a lot less sinister. I also have spasmodic dysphonia & let me tell you it was very traumatic growing up especially because it happened out of nowhere in middle school. Lost all my friends, developed severe social anxiety, etc. There are treatments but no cure as of yet. The treatments consists of Botox inside the vocal cords which restore your normal speaking voice for about 2-3 months. Then it returns & you repeat the process. Thank you for reading. I remember watching this movie a couple years ago and it really creeped me out. Then, a couple months after watching it, I went to visit my friend out of town. And while she was at work, I decided to explore the nearby beach... it was pretty empty due to the pandemic and for whatever reason, there was a bunch of areas from the boardwalk to the beach that were blocked off with caution tape. I decided to cross anyway and made my way to the beach but got a spooky vibe and decided to return to my car. Couldn't tell if it was bc it was so quiet or just the old vintage vibe of the carnival rides or what. Then when I brought it up to my friend afterwards, I found out that Us had been filmed at that beach/boardwalk lol

Get Out is still my number one because it is such a tight film-one of the best screenplays ever written that should be taught in schools. However, I respect Us and Nope more because it ventures into more abstract territory whereas Get Out is a lot more straightforward and grounded. I would put Nope over Us personally. The more I thought about Us, the more the logic and worldbuilding kinda falls apart, BUT I still love the themes and greater statements on society the film puts forward, and that supercedes the trivial criticisms of "How did the tethered do this? How does it work if the people above are on planes or traveling? How did they get their uniforms and scissors?" I'm not one of those shallow dumbass internet "critics" who hyperfixate on logical consistency and need every aspect of a story spoonfed to them. Nope, on the other hand, does not have as many logical flaws, and fantastic themes (probably the most poignant of all three films) so naturally I'll place that over Us. Regardless, all three films are fantastically directed and acted. Get Out = Nope > Us is my ranking, the differences in quality being very slim from Perfect = Masterpiece > Great, respectively. Jordan Peele hasn't missed yet.

So Glad Your Reacting to This Movie 😊 This Movie Was Freaking Terrifying and So Creepy, And Lupita's Acting As Both of Them Was an Oscar Worthy Performance 🙌 But The Academy Snubbed her ao Hard 😪

I literally watched this movie with my friends like 2 weeks ago and thought "I think Zzavid should watch this." and then also watched your Nope reaction again after that, from a year ago and was like "he's missing Us.... I bet it's coming soon". I'm so glad you're getting to it, omg. As a Europpean I really wanna see the perspective of an American audience, since it's pretty much for Yall specifically. Ok, now I got my tea, let's watch.!

I love all three of Jordan Peele's films for completely different reasons. They all have different messages and explore different themes. I think "Us" might be my favorite purely from an entertaining standpoint.

I have an absolute narcissist as a friend who's worse than Gaston from Disney's Beauty and the Beast. After we watched this movie, our friends' circle were teasing him that in the event of a doppelganger replacement/invasion senario like in this move, he'd be absolutely fine because he and his doppelganger would fall for each other...

Jordan Peele is three for three now, a lot of the other more recent filmmakers could never!!! He just improves with every single movie. I love that. It's crazy just thinking how I used to watch him on MadTV and now he's an Oscar winner making these interesting, thoughtful mainstream movies every few years. Also David, congrats on the big move. Maybe you'll meet Ciara in town???

This film brings back so many memories of running around the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk back in 1986. Yep I would've been there! 😅 Also because The Lost Boys was filmed there and every kid who lived in that area loved that movie. That place was every Bay Area kids playground, especially during summer break. Maybe they will start screening this film on the beach in the summer sometime soon, they do that for The Lost Boys every year and it is so much fun.
