I feel like you could see hints in his previous work that Wan has it in him to be campy. Saw, Insidious, Dead Silence aren't full on camp, but there's this little zest of it on them. The overacting in Saw, the demon's little lair in Insidious while he's filing his nails, the whole vibe of Dead Silence. It was a fun watch that didn't require overanalyzing like most movie critics (KZbin reactors) these days, and Gabriel was my favorite character despite how brutal he was. All the backwards abilities and fighting is just so interesting and cool to me.
