Bike park riding is great for building confidence and skills really fast. I am doing things on my bike now that I never have before because of it.

I love the bike park more for the vibe. I love going out there and meeting new people and just blasting down the trails together. Everyone is there to have fun! At least thats the vibe i always get when i go to snowshoe.

The bike park has features bigger than anything I normally find in the "wild". It also lets me get tons of laps in improving my technique. I find that this transfers pretty to general riding and is a confidence booster. Also, it is fun.

The bike park is my favorite place to ride. I had a seasons pass to mountain creek in NJ when I lived close and was there 3 times a week. I love big jumps, big berms, wood features and going fast. Conversely, I really dislike climbing. I don't live half an hour from a bike park anymore, so the last few months have involved a lot more pedaling. I 100% owe my jumping ability to the bike park. Being able to lap well built tables all afternoon does your jumping skills a lot of good!

I personally can’t think of a better place to ride your bike than te park! But that’s manly because I live in the Netherlands and we have almost no elevation. To go to Germany and rip the park is something truly special to me.

You’ve gotta use the right settings and the new GoPro is dang good. Make your EV comp -1.0 to -2.0 the darker it gets in the forest. 0 to -0.5 for regular day. Then 5500k white balance and set the ISO max just below auto (6400 I think). Hyperboost on and don’t do the auto boost or boost. Hope this helps

I assume you already adjusted GoPro settings cuz you’re kind of a pro, but the Loam Rangers video on it was awesome. Also you might try not using the max lens mod. I’ve heard bad things about it, hyperview over superview if you really need that extra fov. Distorted, but usable and 4K. Just a random dudes suggestion tho, I’m not out here using these cameras every day like y’all. Neat to see you out of your element but still in your element in a weird way.

As a 45 year old dad with a 16 year old daughter who loves to ride park I'm am completely torn. I'm not in love with the park but feel like it really benefits my daughter's skill progression. The other side of it is the expense....trying to maintain two bikes after riding park is expensive as heck. Bikes just take a beating!

A day at the park is equivalent to a month's progression for me (depending on the park). Up at snowshoe its typical to get 12,000+ feet of downhill in 8 hours of riding. That's equivalent to like 3-4 weeks of riding for me. One day at Snowshoe this year brought my speed on slow tech up dramatically. I'm a completely different rider over the rocky stuff than I was before going to shoe, I feel like I'm going three times as fast and I am absolutely three times as confident. Plus, sometimes its fun just to train a blue jump line with your friends for a couple hours.

I have yet to ride a true SHUTTLE/LIFT bike park. Now I’m saying that one has opened about a hour and a half from me. So it’s something I’m looking forward to but I don’t have the bike for it… YET. I’m like you Jeff I like the adventure of riding in the woods free to do as I like. But like you explained, I know my skills will progress very fast if I make the effort to go out there. So RENTAL IT IS 😅. Liked the video JEFF thanks for sharing

I get a Snowmass bike park pass every year but I'm like you and prefer longer rides into the forest. I usually hit the bike park maybe 10 times each summer because I feel that it helps me improve my riding and confidence tremendously. But I'm 41 and don't want to get hurt so I'm pretty cautious.

Favorite thing about the bike park is how much you can work on skills and repeating the same trails to figure things out. On a normal pedal day I can get 3000ft of descending but am trashed for the last bit. On a park day I can get 9000ft and see lots of improvement
@superawesomefuntimego2 жыл бұрын
I've yet to hit a bike park and I did my first shuttle the other weekend at Chuckanut. I can totally see the value of being able to hit trails over and over and over to work on getting better. Normally I ride up, head down and am done after about 2500-3500ft climbing and 12-15 miles of which 3/4 of the time is going up and mostly grinding barely working on skills. At a park I could get vastly more time in at full speed, working on jumps, cornering, tech, drops, etc. Not saying I want to do that all the time as I enjoy earning my turns, but I see the draw and value of all those laps.

Nice video. Interesting comments re the gopro. Have you tried the Insta360 at all? The nice thing about it is that camera view doesn't matter, although mounting positions more limited. Low light stabilization also not amazing, but still usable. I love riding bike park- however I think I only rode 6 days park this year. Most of my riding is on trails and I don't shuttle. However living in Calgary, all bike parks are at least 3 hrs drive, limiting the access. I like bike park because vertical metres descent per day is massively higher than trail riding, which I think more quickly allow for progression, in particular for jumping. Bike parks, in particular Whistler, has an amazing trail network for progression of skills, that are really well built. If I could ride Whistler regularly, I am sure I would be a much more skilled rider.

Like you say, I like riding park occasionally to change perspective. After riding park, speeds on normal trails seem slow and less intimidating in hard sections. I wish I had easier Access to a park. I need a full dawn til dark to travel and ride.

Good video. Whistler is so expensive for what it is, massive line ups, trails are destroyed. Whislter used to be a fun place to go, now it is just a commercial Disneyland. As a native in the Alps i pay $30 for a day pass in Les Portes du Soleil (Chatel, Morzine, Les Gets, Morgins, Champery, Avoriaz).Yeah the bikepark is destroyed, especially Garbonzo. I rode my Enduro and my DH, I had to setup my bikes to dont get arm pump.

Hey better get hurt old than too young 😄 BTW the max lens looked awesome as a 1080 in real life looks like a 4k on youtube so I upload any resolution as 4k and the jerky footage on the shadows you can fix it by installing Gopro Labs to enable the minimum shutter speed limiter (called shutter angle) so the SS doesn't go below 1/100 sec or 1/200

I'm on kind of the same page about bike parks. I have a very limited amount of bike park experience but have never taken to it. Going "bike park fast" makes me really uncomfortable, in a not fun way. Wider, high-traffic trails just don't have the same appeal to me that narrow and more rugged trails do. Even outside of bike parks on systems like Raging River where the trails kind of have to be built to accommodate high traffic, it just doesn't click for me. I'm not sure if my preference is "machine built" vs "hand built" because I've got no idea how these trails were made. Perhaps I'm just a "local rider", my small regional systems like Japanese Gulch and Lord Hill down here in Snohomish County are usually my top choice.

As a adult with a partner/spouse and kid(s)- getting hurt is a bigger deal. Medical bills and lost wages are viewed in terms of what your family will sacrifice monetarily, what you/your kid will miss out on together, and how much more your partner will have to compensate for you. All families make sacrifices and care for one another, but the risks you take have to be more calculated. Just saying it’s harder.

I have a fairly modern (2019) hardtail trail bike with 27.5 wheels and 120mm travel forks. Bike parks are becoming a pain to me as they seem to be designed around full sus 29ers and eMTBs. It's a sad state of affairs that the designers/builders just follow the newest trend the industry says is good. Sports should be open, accesible and encouraging to all levels. MTB is now just totally profit related. Maybe given my advancing age I need to go full sus to appreciate the trail centres...just seems a faff though. Cycling should be fun.

I only had DH bikes in the past, and for me riding was either bikepark or pushing up the hill. Due to unimportant reasons I had to sell my 2020 Demo and before I bought a new DH bike, I decided to try a Stumpy Evo. (I ordered a Session frameset but the delivery date was like 9 months in the future, so I go the stumpy to keep riding while waiting for the frame) To be quite honest, I hate pedaling now that I know what pedaling means. I totally ruined that "lets got riding" feeling. Im back to pushing my "enduro" bike up the hill anyway and the bike is 10 times worse than a DH bike. Worst bike-related decision ever. 0/10 would not recommend. I will sell my stumpy asap and get the Session built up.

I just don't have easy access to a legit bike park, the closest is a 3 hour drive. Can't complain though, I can hit up trails from home and my local mountain is a 5 min drive, has a lift and trails are super chunky tech. If you can ride fast here, you can ride anywhere.
