14:05 Technically we did, just INCREDIBLY blink-and-you-miss-it. During one of the first Shoto flashbacks (in s2 I think?) we see Endeavor dragging him off to train while the rest of his siblings play-Natsuo and Fuyumi are in a courtyard playing with a ball. Their faces are visible, but the third brother’s face is noticeably facing away from the screen!

I don't know if it was intentional or not, but I think it's kinda symbolic this is the first episode we can see Endeavor without any of his flames (outside the battle when he was unconscious). We can see that in the MHA society a level of dehumanisation of heroes. Like, All Might was treated as an icon, ideal, and not a alive person. On the Endeavor case, he dehumanised himself by his action. His 'hero personality', Endeavor, obsessed with strength and suppasing All Might, affected him to the degree it became his real personality, leading him to madness and cruel action towards the people he needs to protect the most. He wasn't Todoroki Enji, only Endeavor. In the battle with High End, he burns not only Nomu, but his old self, receiving some kind of rebirthing. And when he speaks with Hawks and then returning home and have conversation with his kids, analysing his past actions and how bad he was, we finally can see a person behind the flames, Todoroki Enji in Endeavor. Sorry for a lot of my thoughts, I'm a real sucker when it comes to attempts of analysing Todoroki family plotline

That’s actually an interesting point. People have the habit of talking about Endeavor and “Enji” like they’re two different people, which isn’t exactly fair. The “facade” of Endeavor isn’t really just a job for him, it’s basically been his entire life. I wouldn’t even chalk that up to the public since, no spoilers, but he’s always had his job consume his life. Hero society just perpetuates that. In other words, there’s not really a confirmed mental point where the identities of Endeavor and Enji Todoroki split. The man behind the flames is only part of what makes him who he is.

30:00 The Quirk Singularity Doomsday Theory was talked about when Bakugo and Todoroki were taking care of the kids during remedial License training. Basically quirks combine and mix becoming too strong for their users to fully (or worst case scenario, even partially) control their quirks. Now apply that logic to OFA

"Doomsday Theory" aspect of it is assuming eventually a majority of people's quirks will reach this "singularity" point and send civilization back into another dark ages (best case scenario) or, at worst, end civilization completely

@@yumekawaxkashikoma20 the singularity that you are talking about was the one mentioned in the episode that OP mentioned. However I’m fairly sure that the one the first user is referencing is about the dwindling numbers of quirkless people in society. Without quirkless people, there is no one to access the full power of OFA meaning that Deku will likely be the final user of OFA. So the singularity that the first user is talking about is specifically for OFA whereas the other singularity is for society as a whole.

Fun fact the "Look boy" character is made to look like another character from another anime called Fairy Tail named Natsu. Natsu is voiced by Todd Haberkorn in the Fairy Tail dub and he voices a "Look Boy" as well. Kinda cool!

I really appreciate that this episode shows that Endeavor's selfless almost-sacrifice isn't enough to atone for how horrible he treated his family and that he still has a long way to go. Sure, his kids were scared that he wasn't going to make it, but so would (almost) anyone when it comes to the safety of their parents. That doesn't mean that all the atrocities commited by their abusive father are forgiven and forgotten, which is way more realistic.

@@Agent-57 Yeah, but it's also the easy way out when it comes to actually taking responsability for your own actions. Imagine a villain would sacrifice himself at the last second, would all his bad deeds be forgiven? No, that way he would never have to face the people he wronged and actually reflect on all the pain he caused. Staying alive and actually going through all the steps of atonement is much better than just taking a shortcut.

I’ve had this talk with agent 57 before. They’ve not only said that Endeavor beating up a villain on tv is atoning somehow, but they also said that it’s a good thing that Hawks was used by the Hero Public Safety Commission. No disrespect towards others’ opinions, but it’s clear their outlook on things is pretty... different? 😅

Not m​y opinion you asked for, but I always found Fuyumi's reaction realistic as well. When it comes to familial trauma, people often have this feeling that says because they're family, they want to forgive as quickly as possible to get to the healing. They don't necessarily want to travel through the muck of the more troublesome emotions. They don't like feeling confused. I think that, for Fuyumi, a quick forgiveness is almost necessary for her to get on with her life because she'd rather everyone be okay than hang on to what happened.

Honestly, I still stand by what was said to Endeavor about his past. Especially since the world definitely won’t hold him accountable for the things he’s done right now. Also, Endeavor saying he wants to atone and all might sit better with me if he didn't seem so keen on keeping his job. Like, I get that the world kinda needs a strong hero right now, but still, put your money where your mouth is and all that. Plus, we haven’t even gone into the full extent of what he’s done. First time the name of Big Brother Touya was mentioned. On a different note though, how come Midoriya isn't wearing clothes in the ghost One for All world or whatever it is?

You must be THIS jacked to use OFA clothes. Clearly Deku is not up to dress code in his vestige forms yet. Also the divide of accepting Endeavor the hero and Enji Todoroki the person being a WILD difference is a unique route to take. I 100% get the perspective of someone like him should quit his job to put his money where his mouth is. But I also think Endeavor’s situation is like having a jackass surgeon that’s among the best with a backlog of surgeries ahead of him in the same scenario. It’s more difficult when his specific job is of saving lives as much as possible and taking him off the list of heroes available could be catastrophic timing with All-Might’s retirement. If it were anything that dealt LESS with people’s lives this would be a lot less contentious what routes need to be taken.

There’s also the whole concept of atonement and that he probably shouldn’t have said that he’s planning on atoning if he can’t bring himself to do more than just a little bit. And we all know exactly why this is my favorite episode of the season. Here’s some SERIOUS OFA lore. (Shoutout to Mineta to being genuinely disturbed and concerned for Deku pushing himself well into the night of training nonstop. That is an appropriate response to seeing someone do that much and collapsing entirely.) We got this history BRIEFLY from All-Might doing his best to give the history and avoid major questions but the 1st appears to show us the exact events that befell everything. 200 years ago we see the system AFO built to bring people to his cause. To show us how he used people. Of course it’s like making a deal with the devil. AFO literally made the declaration that’s what he wants by choice. He WANTS this. No trauma, no guilt, just the choice to be evil. There’s no hardship for him. This is such a rarity nowadays because villains need to be understood through desperation, through their own fear or their guilt at the root of their actions. To see this man have NONE of the root but choose this root entirely by his own choice is a breath of fresh air. To give him so much opportunity to be ANYTHING else. And we see not just the will in defiance of being better. But we see the will that brought an entire country to its knees. And quite frankly, it’s a will that can bring the PLANET to its knees. AFO is a standard ultimate evil but he does the trope better than ANYTHING that came before him. Because he avoids EVERY trap that falls to the trope. An ultimate evil that wants to take over the world falls into two classes. One that makes no sense at all and was never going to work. (This is where you find children show villains like Dr. Doofenshmirtz and Scooby doo villains) The other one is that is so ridiculously overpowered that it makes the stakes of a PLANET nearly meaningless. (You’ll find gods like Darkseid, Galactus, Thanos, and DBZ villains here.) In AFO’s case he CAN takeover the planet and win over the people by BEING a devil in a way that isn’t easy and maintains the value of the entire planet. It’s a challenge and not a shoo in if he will. And that’s what makes these lines so freaking threatening. “I will give you everything you want if you agree to join me. You have my word. Choice to those without power. Mercy to those that have sinned.” When we KNOW his power can grant this opportunity to people and he can provide to their FACE the deal they desire it takes no time at all to not just see him as a leader but as a god. People act on his will without order. “But you should have been there! You should have seen them fall! All of them! They let their powers go to waste. Formed factions, rose against me! That’s why they had to be killed. But it wasn’t by my hand that they lost their lives. My multitude of adoring friends took it upon themselves to spite the wicked and act on my behalf.” Bringing fantasy into reality and in defiance of the stories. Showing a global empire IS possible and that their world. Their REAL WORLD isn’t bound by the stories we read. And in further defiance of his brother’s unending will, gives his brother a power. The power to stockpile. AFO’s personality is revealed. He is what is known as a Dark Empath. The most dangerous personality there is. We’ve talked about the dark triad of personality before. Narcissism, Machiavellian, and Psychopathy. AFO is all 3. But with his deep knowledge of others desires he can mimic the ability of the empath by using a different kind of empathy called cognitive empathy which can be trained and honed by anyone spotting the tells and behavior of people to understand their feelings without full matching of feelings. But because he isn’t bound to the feelings of others he can use it with no regard. This is such a rare phenomenon of personality that psychology only sees this as a theory as of now because of how hard it is to fit under so many categories at once. (Though the public has been accepting of it because Empaths by nature are much less dangerous with their easy connection. So ones that mimic them must be something else.) But since AFO has been around for 200 years, he has had ample time to develop the traits to combine into the full thing. But he likely started as just one trait. Guessing he was originally a psychopath. But then there’s some BIG reveals at the end. The 1st talks DIRECTLY to Deku AWARE of his holding of OFA more than a CENTURY after his hold of OFA ended, to confirm exactly where his control of his personal stockpile stood and how that effect which memories would be shown, told him we are long past the singularity point, and said you are not alone. And then made contact in this memory scape. And the INSTANT contact is made? OFA explodes out its energy. And we officially have our answer as to why Deku broke out of Shinso’s brainwashing in season 2. Someone made contact within OFA in the exact same way. Things are STILL getting more complicated and it doesn’t seem like this train is stopping anytime soon. Just…what an amazing episode. What a way to propel this insane history and power. It’s SO much fun to think about how everything has gone over 200 years. And OFA’s will continues its defiance of AFO even now. And Deku carries that with AFO looming in the depths waiting for his time to return.

I wonder how the original stockpiling quirk worked. Like what and how does it stockpile power. We know that the more you use it, the stronger it gets and that with it in one for all, the stockpiled power and quirk is passed through users. Is it like when its activated, it accumulates the energy you're exerting while its on? That would explain how it got the level it was with all might. He worked so much in his prime he got eyebags like aizawa back in the day. Not to mention when nighteye handled all his paperwork for resolved cases there would be stacks of hundreds of papers on his desk at a time.

@@tobofu5978the more generic the power the more leeway there is. Like Tsu. Her quirk is frog and there’s 6000 frogs she can train herself to mimic. There is absolutely nothing we know about what is stockpiled other than energy. Personal energy, heat energy, heck energy from others might also be absorbed for all we know. There’s dozens of possibilities and we can’t really cross off any of them. Good reason how it became the strongest quirk.

The first user wasn't quirkless right? from what I understood he could pass down his quirk, which was useless since he had no other quirk so it appeared he was quirkless. To insult him further AFO gave him a stockpiling quirk since it was the ultimate insult, but invertedly created OFA which was a stockpiling quirk that could also be passed down as each user's quirk made it stronger.

Both AFO and first didn't know the first user is not quirkless, hence the reason why AFO give first user the stockpiling energy quirk. Only after receive the power from OFA , first user able to discover that he also have a quirk to give away his power. Well they are siblings, so it's not weird for the first user have that kind power innately. Just it still useless bfore AFO give the stockpiling power to the first user, bcuz what kind power he can give if he didn't have any kind power to give other. So, yeah, basically OFA is indeed come from AFO and was been enhanced with the quirk of first user to give other people his power

Indeed, I know a lot of people get angry at the story for even trying to redeem Endeavor, and I recognize that comes from a place of hurt. Hell I've been there. But at the end of the day, someone trying to be better and atone for their mistakes is a positive thing. It may hurt to see or acknowledge, but it's not a bad thing.

So, correction for the Vestiges scene. We did hear the story of the Origin of One For All from All Might, talking about All For One and his sickly brother. BUT, the brother DOES have a Quirk, it was just useless to him. His power was the ability to pass on Quirks through the ingestion of DNA. Not knowing this, All For One gave him the Quirk that stockpiles power, probably with the hope that it would make him healthier and less sickly, and the two Quirks combined to become One For All.

This is actually my favorite episode of season 5. It’s got a LOT to think about and seriously sets up far more than people would assume. (I gotta make a 2 parter for the Endeavor stuff and the OFA history) Much like the episode where All-Might tells Deku he’s going to die in accordance to Nighteye’s foresight in season 4 I found myself enjoying a big foundational episode that is a big game changer in both previous and future episodes more than any of the big fight episodes. Not saying those aren’t great. We start off with the aftermath of the big Nomu finale last season. Dabi let it loose and came to retrieve the body. (For some reason) But then he shows off some SERIOUSLY impressive moves. The moment he sees Hawks and Endeavor, he makes a big flame ring. This move is CRAZY. It stops Endeavor from cooling off and being able to contribute anything to a fight, and Hawks’ remaining feathers would likely ignite from already being in such close proximity to all of Endeavor’s moves. The fire is like BUILDINGS tall and Dabi has every card in his favor against the top 2 heroes. But then Mirko jumps in. This fan favorite lets loose a pretty hefty shockwave by smacking the road that we’ve seen from Gran Torino who has Endeavor level feats at his age. But she’s a PURE bruiser. She has to be slower than Hawks and Gran Torino top speeds but let’s just say she also can’t be too far off either. She has to a Mach speed fighter. Dabi has ONE last card up his sleeve though. He’s clearly paying close attention to Endeavor to the point of knowing his full name Enji Todoroki. Which seems weird but heroes being licensed means like cops you can look up their badge number and name. And Endeavor is now the equivalent of the Chief of police as the #1 hero. So it’s not like it’s not public knowledge. Dabi wants to make it personal and Endeavor knows that means that the league is out for him. This IS just the beginning. Hawks is revealed to be a double agent and being forced to work 2 ways to help both the heroes and villains at the same time. He announces his “lack of weapons” to Dabi knowing Dabi wouldn’t kill him on the field. But he knows he’s at much more risk during their meeting if Dabi decides or not if he really is a hero or if he’s their spy. And Hawks is working with the public safety commission. Think of him like an FBI agent. Or more accurately RAISED and TRAINED by the FBI. And this also explains how things shook out in the restaurant, the top 10 awards, and more. With the public safety commission leader making a brief showing. Hawks is on orders to communicate with Endeavor in certain ways to test him as the number 1 hero and also keep him on and off the Nomu case as needed. And also what Hawks meant when he has more freedom in the 20’s for hero position. As the public safety commission hero, he never has to worry about his rank as his position remains unchanged. He has much less public scrutiny in the 20’s. And more freedom to act in certain ways. And it’s like he was ORDERED to be a top 10 hero. Aizawa calling the stray cat over is hilarious. Endeavor makes it home. He has a functioning 2 eyes but now has an even worse scar than Shoto. And Shoto has about as much empathy for that as you would expect. And one resounding sound is made from the Todoroki’s as a whole. Every single one of them accept Endeavor the hero. They can’t argue with him acting as a hero in how he operates and how amazing he is as a top hero. BUT that doesn’t reflect CRAP on who Enji Todoroki is at home. The neglect, the abuse, the damage done to the family remains as in the toilet as it ever was. Small sad statements like Rei saying she knows Enji is trying but has no idea how his mind works or the pressures he carries as his WIFE. Fuyumi saying she was looking forward to ACTING like a family. And Natsuo saying he is only JUST NOW starting to learn who Shoto is. And one small resounding word of what happened to big brother Touya being the single largest reaction from Natsuo despite ALL we have seen already to Rei and Shoto. Here’s the honest truth. This family has NO reason to forgive him and accept him. The only one who is looking at it from the accepting point of view is Shoto. Rei despite understanding Enji’s effort stays in the hospital isolated from her husband. Fuyumi acknowledges that being a family is an ACT at this point and Natsuo just won’t so much as entertain the man’s mindset. But Shoto says you want in this family? You have to prove to us you are truly different. Prove yourself not as Endeavor, prove yourself as Enji. Most who know anyone like Endeavor would have no need to entertain him trying to change. But the fact we SEE Endeavor contemplating on his past and his personal failures is all you need to know. We as an audience see he HAS changed. We will never see the internal efforts of anyone in real life and it’s why in real life the social norm is to not give any 2nd opportunity to someone like Endeavor. Because you can’t know for sure. And it’s why there’s so much scrutiny for this arc. Because the simplicity of seeing his inner efforts and queries, means that his effort IS genuine and we will be exploring how he will make those efforts to win over his family to BE a family after EVERYTHING. That is Endeavor’s goal. So keep that in mind whether you hate Endeavor or you don’t. And at the same time, we are not the Todoroki’s. We can’t get in their head and tell them to be convinced or unconvinced. These steps aren’t for the audience but for the characters EXCLUSIVELY. And that is such an amazing way to tell this story.

And I don't get this obsession people have that he needs to quit his job. What exactly would that solve? In my opinion, that seems like an incredibly superficial and showy act that accomplishes nothing. Not a single member of the Todoroki household would be happy with that.

I agree, I think I'd be the same as much as I'd want to hear it. It reminds me of after the license make up course, Endeavor vows to Todoroki he'll become a better father. Todoroki brushes him off to his face, but we see that it actually put a smile on his face and meant a lot to him father said that. I think that scene captures the contradicting feelings of an abuser trying atone really well.

After the plot kind of took a step back in the second part of season 4 except for the last two episodes, seeing just how much plot related things happened in this episode gave me whiplash. Dabi and Endeavor's encounter, the Todoroki family drama, learning Hawks is a double agent, and not to mention Deku actually interacting with the OFA users.

From Season 2, Episode 20 (One For All's Origin): As you known, All For One can steal, use, and transfer multiple Quirks. During the time 'Meta Abilities' started appearing. People turned to discrimination because for their ignorance over these newly discovered supernatural cases. Causing these Qurik users suffer abuse and treachery. Which in turn made them retaliate the powerless. But once AFO took centre stage. He brought many people under his banner of evil. Taking advantage of his blessed generosity and the loyalty in his followers. This eventually lead to him ruling over Japan. Acting as the self proclaimed Demon King that he wished to be. Of course, all reigns crumble in time. In the case of All For One's younger brother who was thought to be Qurikless. But apparently, this wasn't the case. When AFO transferred a Stockpiling Quirk to his sibling. It merged with his hidden yet useless power that allowed him to pass on Quirks. Which led to the birth One For All.

So by now you'll start to notice All for One refers to his people as "His friends". This demonstrates how twisted and fucked up his perspective is. He "helps" people, removing detrimental powers or giving them abilities they can use, but that comes with the addon of "Alright. You're mine now." He treats everyone around him as his possessions. They are tools, and if they no longer are useful, he simply throws them away. That's what he calls "friends". That's how he views relationships with other people.

Who thinks that LettsReact should react to 'Hell's Paradise'? Here are my reasons why: • It's apart of the Dark Shounen Trio (Great animes with darker or edgier settings and themes.). Including Chainsaw Man and Jujutsu Kaisen. Which there currently reacting to. • It's similar to Demon Slayer in terms of art style and setting. So a air of familiarity. • It's got a great story that reminds me of DC's Suicide Squad (Not the movies.). Expect it has the old Japan theme. • The cast is engaging, and I know they're going to interact well to certain characters that we love. I won't say who for the sake of spoilers but you know what I mean. • It only has 1 season/13 episodes so far. But the manga itself is only 13 volumes long, and considering it's success rate from last year. We are bound to get season 2 towards the end of this year, or early next year. October at the earliest if I had to guess.

I would avoid the Todoroki household; at first it was sad and scary, now it's so awkward and uncomfortable. The Singularity Doomsday Theory was mentioned before. Quirks get complex and more powerful like the liitle kids and Eri There will be a point that quirks will destroy the persons bodies because their physical bodies aren't evolving fast enough. Deku's mom is a 4th generations so the kids could be like 5th or 6th properly. Applying Singularity or OFA, that makes Deku a 9th generation because he is the 9th wielder, that's why he insta breaks his body whenever he uses it. The Todoroki family has 4 kids: Touya (oldest), Fuyumi (daughter), Natsu (second son) and Shoto. The theory Montana has has, right now Touya is ...cant spoilers AFO collected so many favors. We don't get a lot of information about it, the the dawn of quirks was a dark time. It would be easy to imagine it to how people in the treated Mutans in the X-Men. When First-kun mentions that the hero always wins in the end, I have my ehhhh on that, but still a great belief to have.
