It’s called, Cucuzza, I have been growing them many years. My Italian father grew them all the time. You should not let them get bigger than 2 1/2 to 3 feet, after that they are all seed and not as much flavor. If the seeds are large, they must be scraped out. The traditional Italian way of eating it is in a tomato gravy stew. Keep in mind that they produce a lot of juice. Here is a recipe that I put together that you may like. I put everything in the pot at one time and cook until the shrimp are done. RECIPE: 1 Cucuzza; 1 onion; 1 cup of celery; 1 can of Goya Coconut Milk,( must be thick), 1 - 4 oz. jar of red curry past; 4 lbs. shrimp; salt, pepper and garlic powder to taste. If you need more juice, add a little chicken stock.

Just to clarify, this is not the recipe for the tomato gravy stew? I'm assuming since I didn't see any mention of tomatoes in the list of ingredients you gave (assuming has gotten me into trouble😅). But it sounds so delicious. 😋

I also add chunks of potatoes and I don't add any milk. But definitely pick those cucuzza now! (coo-coo-zah, accent on the second syllable). :)

In 2014 I had knee replacement, then infected and had revision surgery. I was on antibiotic IV for 6 weeks… long story short missed and entire garden season. I totally get it about how easy it is to take for granted the real joy we glean from our garden. Prayers for speedy and FULL recovery-get back to your happy place! 🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼

I live in late fall when you wake up and have clean crisp smell and feel first thing in the morning. You start the day in a sweater or sweatshirt and later just a tee only to have to put sweater back on in the evening. The harvest is putting itself to bed and in just a week or so it’s wintertime. You finally get time to slow a little and don’t forget to be thankful for what you’ve received in the fall. Don’t wait till Thanksgiving, be thankful all the way.

A simple way to cook the cucuzza (gagootz) is to peel the skin off. Scrape out the large seeds and cut the squash into 1-2 in chunks. Sauté in olive oil and garlic and add tomato sauce, salt and pepper and italian basil. cook until tender. Eat as a side vegetable. Or make some pasta, usually elbows, and add the the tomato sauce squash mix. We grate cheese called ricotta salatta onto it. It is a soft , delicious grateable cheese, on the large side of your grater. Wish I had one of those right now! Continue to feel better Jill.

Congrats on feeling better! Yay! I hope that you don't mind if I share my experience: If you are just doing potatoes on new ground, no need to bring in soil. Put down straw, weeds, grass, leaves, newspaper, thin cardboard, paper, and let it rot in contact with the soil. If you put corrugated cardboard down, use it as a removable ground cover or cover for your composting materials if it rains too much or too little. Don't use fresh manure, only aged manure if adding that. You can put potatoes directly in. Once the ground looks pretty good, put in daikon radish for the goats. I don't have goats and just compost the radish. But be sure to add organic matter consistently as you are able.

Sweet sweet girl. I bet you needed a good laydown after this. Right after my husband's surgery there was a big snow storm in Missouri, I let him come out while I built snow forts and tunnels for the kids. It was the first day down the stairs and out side for him and he took a long nap after lol. But it was good for his soul and motivated him. Just be careful out and about.

Be careful and don’t overdo. I remember years ago I had a minor surgery and feeling like I would be okay I ventured out to the grocery store that’s about a mile from where I live. I’m sorry to say that I had to call my husband to come and get me. I didn’t do much, was only there for a very short time but I just couldn’t go any more. Praying for complete healing and no other problems to worry about concerning your health. Blessings 🙏🏻💗🌺🪴🥰

Hi first time seeing your channel. A comment on the plastic mulch over the weeds. The clear mulch may just be a greenhouse for the weeds, slowing their death if not encouraging them to thrive. They still getting light. The opaque is more effective. Appreciate the quick tour. Have a speedy recovery.

I had the same problem you did with polycystic ovarian disease {PCOD} about 14 years ago. I think I was 48 yrs. old. I had a procedure that used robotics and it only required a few tiny surgical incisions. They removed both my ovaries and uterus. They also put in a suprapubic catheter. I did my own bladder training within the first 24 hrs and insisted that they remove that catheter. I went home the day after my surgery. I had very little pain. However, I did take full advantage of my disability insurance and take 6 weeks off work. However, I don't think I needed all that time. I had an older doctor that was actually a teacher and taught other doctors how to do this procedure. I'm lucky to live here in Nebraska with excellent physicians. My procedure wasn't an emergency situation so they had time to plan everything out. I had many students watching over the whole thing as my doctor was a teacher. He did a terrific job and I'm grateful for that. Hope you recover soon and get back your feet. Love your videos and look forward to some more.
