First Woman Olympic Champion in Modern Times || Charlotte Cooper or Hélène de Pourtalès

In 1900, at the Summer Olympics in Paris, Charlotte Cooper won the First Place Prize (medals were not given out until 1904) for the 2 tennis singles event, becoming the first female olympic champion. The English tennis player also won the First Place Prize for the mixed doubles competition.
However, there was a gold medal awarded to another female prior to this on May 22, 1900. Hélène de Pourtalès was the first woman to compete at the Olympics and the first female Olympic gold medalist (member of the winning team).
