Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) examination is one of the opportunities for engineering students. There are high paying PSU jobs and PG / Phd admissions with stipend.
GATE is especially a boon for students from Tier 2 and 3 engineering students who won't be having good placement opportunities in their college.
In this video, I give detailed roadmap for preparing for GATE exam in a systematic manner from first year onwards.
This video would guide you to design a roadmap for yourself based on your subject strengths.

First of all congratulations! Very few achieve this feet. You may get a seat in some IIT itself. Or for sure in NIT Trichy. IIT Madras for example give core placements at around Rs.13 lakh per annum, NIT Trichy around 9 lakh (median placements) Studying in Japan or Singapore will be costly. If you have that kind of financial background, then good. With loan, it can affect your future decisions also as you will be stuck to pay the loan back for many years. With a good company placement from IIT, you may be able to go abroad as well.

Your cgpa in BE/BTech doesn't matter. If you qualify GATE and have cleared all your arrears (if you have), you will get a seat in NITs / IITs for MTech.

You can purchase a GATE PYQ which explains theory side by side. You can check such books for ECE in amazon. It will help you to learn basic concepts in a simple manner. In college you will understand better

Don't worry about the interview process. If you clear GATE, you will be confident enough to attend interview as well. Also go through college placement training to be confident, it will help through life.

Why not? You can choose mechanical engineering and shine well if you are interested in it. It's only a stereotype that girls can't do mechanical. There will be less girl students in classes (sometimes you may be the only one female in class). But let it not deter you from selecting it, if you are interested. You can very well succeed!

There is a paper called PE for Petroleum Engineering. However, most of oil majors like IOCL, HPCL etc wants GATE paper CH (Chemical Engineering) for even Petroleum students. Hence, of your aim is PSUs, it's better to write Chemical engineering paper.

Biomedical has wonderful opportunities because if you see last year 2024, first rank mark itself was 54/100. With GATE prep, you can also try GAT-B exam. You can start with General aptitude and Maths in first year. By second year, you will be able to decide on the side where your interest lies most. Then decide on whether to go with Mechanical paper or electronics paper. Also, you can try PI or XE paper. Pls note, for you, PSU jobs will be limited. But don't worry about it, mechatronics is a growing field and you will succeed with good preparation. GATE will be useful for PG.

Super. Ithula Manufacturing is very high yield subject for mech paper and even for production engineering paper it helps. You can start with PYQ papers of these subjects. If possible get solved PYQ book and start practicing along with semester. Glad that you did this work, all the best..

Around 160 career streams iruku namaku, list out your most interesting subjects out of them aprom decide panunga. Help vena kelinga. Once decide panita, aprom paya padatheenga. Entha field layum munnala varalam. Ulaipu thaan. For maths, bayapada thevai illa. Efforts can bring us success anywhere. If required, you can take a tuition/ see youtube videos / NPTEL classes for maths now itself and be prepared early.

You can apply for any branch actually and clear GATE also. However, there are some limitations when it comes to PSUs. They will have eligibility criteria as BE in ECE with GATE paper in ECE for certain branches. Doing CSE paper after ECE, you will be allowed to do MTech in few branches of CSE but may not to all (depends on IITs). So even if you take another paper, better to always write your core and then another relevant paper ss second one.

Sure. Your approach of keeping DA as main is completely fine, as you already know 60% in it. Go ahead and give your full effort. Try to complete 90% of syllabus by October end. Just give November (5days a week) for CS, try to pick two or more subjects which is of ease to you and are high scoring. Don't worry about marks in that. However keep revising, DA in the rest two days. December on get back to DA again in full swing. Don't worry about the seats, you will surely get. All the very best.

General aptitude can be prepared by school level knowledge itself. 10th std knowledge will be enough but you need to learn the tricks to solve problems. You can get a PYQs solved book and start. Also, RS Agarwal quantitative aptitude book is good. It will be useful for placements also.

GATE will surely help you with subject clarity and technical problem solving, that will be helpful to get opportunities abroad. Also, there are few abroad universities giving MTech based on GATE score in Singapore and Germany. However, much details about them are not available. If you are planning to work abroad, following are the options: 1. Get job in an MNC and move through it 2. Some regions like Middle East you can directly apply. 3. Get to higher studies in Western countries & get recruited there Try to learn and clear language exams of your target country from now itself.

PSU-la poga you should aim for 70+ marks. 35 marks will help you to qualify and get MTech seat in an NIT with stipend. You are in first year, so you have time, aim high and prepare well! All the best

For GATE, it's always recommended to take your own core paper first because PSUs will ask for BE Mech or related branches and Mech GATE paper. Or BE CSE related papers and CS GATE. Don't get confused on your college and stream selection based on GATE. It's preferable to take the branch according to your heart and shine in it. If you are taking Mech in Tier 1, side by side get coding, AIDS skills through courses and get equipped as well.

Yes. You can. However, you need to select mechanical or electronics or any other paper you are comfortable with. Options in PSUs will be limited, as most of them will ask for core branches like mechanical. You will get PG options in IITs. Also, use placement opportunities in college and develop skills for private jobs also. You have lot of opportunities there. All the very best.

NIT Calicut in 2011 had mostly IT companies in campus placement and very few core. I got placed off-campus. Later years, I heard many core companies are also coming. NiTC tag will help you get project in good companies, you can get into Operations research or supply chain jobs through them in companies you aim for.

Hi Aananth, very glad that you are focusing to prepare for GATE. You need to focus on GATE syllabus and within that high mark yielding areas first. It's better to get solved Previous year question books for aptitude, maths and your engineering stream so that you can practice along. Pls watch last six months roadmap video for better clarity. Regarding placements, it's better to attend the placement training given in your college and even sit for placements. That experience will give you more confidence and help you in cracking PSU interviews also. So, don't miss that as college is the best place to get trained for placements. All the very best for your future. Start working consistently with a clear plan and you will surely succeed.
