How a spoonful of honey could save your child's life

Button batteries can kill if swallowed.
They react with saliva and body fluids to produce caustic soda - similar to the extremely strong alkali used to clean drains - it burns flesh!
A recent study has shown that giving two spoonfuls of honey following ingestion of a battery can coat the battery and neutralise some of the caustic soda produced. This can reduce some of the damage caused.
If you suspect your child has eaten a battery - always take them straight to the Emergency Department. If you can give them some honey on the way - please do. Never give them anything else to eat or drink and do not make them sick.

@@FirstaidforlifeOrgUk1 there is no need to read a full article to understand that you should be taking your child to the hospital instead of feeding them poison. No matter how much you attempt to neutralise the battery whatever you put in the child's stomach has to be equally as alkaline in order to do any good which is also bad for your child as a start without considering your advocating to do nothing else about a battery in a child's stomach. I'm well versed in science and I'm telling you your peddling bad ideas that could get children killed. Honey is literally poisonous to children under the age of 1 and will give them symptoms a 5 year old may not survive let alone a toddler. I just hope you don't have children at a vulnerable age
