We can invent better ACs and appliances. We can use electric cars etc etc. People like you think they are purists but you only bring everyone down by finding small faults in everyone. From 1857 to 1947, the British government directly controlled the country and focused on India's forests. Britain needed a lot of wood to make railway tracks and ships so they could move cotton, rubber, and tea from India to Europe. By the Indian Forest Act of 1865, forests with trees like teak, sal, and deodar that were good for timber became owned by the state - that is controlled by the British. Tree cutting continued after Independence for over 50 years. In 2015, India under PM Modi promised to restore 23 million hectares by 2030. In 2018, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) claimed more than 10 million hectares were under restoration and it projected India would achieve its goal of 23 million hectares by 2027, three years before the promised date. Our large businesses and real estate developers need to participate more.

I like passing through this one neighbourhood in my city, it’s a quaint little street away from the hustle and bustle, one of the reasons I like that street is that it is lined with huge trees that are as tall as 4-5 storey buildings. These trees are very old and make the entire trip through that street a treat for the eyes. Moreover, that street is so cool and there’s always nice shade from the intense Indian sun many of us face in here. They are Ashok trees and they are so wide that it would take atleast 3 people to hold its circumference. They are truly a spectacle to behold. A few days ago I passed through the street and saw that there was some construction going on in the first house of that street, they probably wanted to expand their house so they just got a huge Ashok tree in front of their house chopped and stumped. I was so shocked after seeing this, how can we do this to living things that are far older than us, that tree was probably older than 3 generations of the family that got it cut. That tree was the home of squirrels, birds, insects and what not. It is so sad, we do not respect what we have and try to snatch what others have. I hope whoever is reading this, go out into your street and observe those large trees outside. They are so beautiful, just take 2 mins to observe it, its foliage, its shape. Please respect these trees they are far too old and far too important for us and for our earth. Do not cut trees.
