Great initiative. Now, the Bangladeshi and Pakistani can not claim themselves as Indian restaurants. These people have tarnished the reputation of Indian food.

I agree, in Spain most of the so called Indian restaurants are owned or operated by Pakistanis or Bangladeshis. Indian givernment should not restrict to only 5 restaurants, but should have a list of restaurants which are atleast top 100 in any country. In that they should choose the top 5 to award and rest should be honarable mentions.

I've seen Nepal, Pakistan and Bangladesh folks running restaurants in Japan in the name of "Indian food/restaurant". And I'm sure it's almost the in other countries too. On top of that they don't even have a decent/authentic Indian food menu. I'd say native Japanese are far more better with the authenticity, surpassing Indian restaurants which only has curry, naan, biryani on the menu. To be honest that doesn't even sound Indian l0l. There's one amazing restaurant comes to my mind is "South Indian Dining Malayalam" located in Naha, Okinawa, Japan. It's a small restaurant run by a Japanese guy, he cooks the food himself following Ayurveda which he learned while his stay in Kerala. I'd highly appreciate such efforts!

No offense, but truth to be told, that way others could argue that Pakistan and Bangladesh were separated from India, so can't they also have similar cuisine? Of course, they have, so does Nepal. That doesn't mean you can sell something with an Indian tag, it's like you're selling local parmesan cheese using Italian branding because you also make it (let's keep the GI tag aside for a while). If you have things in common, sell it as YOURS, as Nepalese food, or simply as any other FOOD, need not to put any tag.

Hat about hygiene certificates by very strict criteria ? I am sure that foreigners coming to India would like to be reassured when they try Indian food that the kitchen is deep cleaned every day, and that worldwide standards of hygiene followed. In Europe, the Southeast Asia, the UAE and in Turkey, most restaurants are extremely careful as they can face devastating fines and loss of license.

Not much related to Michelin star / certification, "Annapurna" is more about certifying Indian restaurants who bring out the taste of India from North East and East to West , from North to South and preventing malpractice of "pakistani" and "bangladeshi" restaurants abroad falsely marketing themselves as "Indian" and tricking citizens outside. This should be the norm across the globe for Indian restaurants plus differentiating the good ones from avg ones - some just change the very essence of food for the sake of it.

Taste Atlas already has Indian food places from India in their lists And the people behind this should go after all the Indian chefs who are responsible for Michelin restaurants abroad rather than staying in India and trying to do the same... We have countless KZbin channels who have put a considerable effort into highlighting a lot of places in India where you can find good food. This certification is absolutely a waste of resources. First get the already existing body to work properly so that food places are working properly, with all the adulteration and unhealthy cooking practices being a norm all throughout the country.
