Dear Palki Sharma, I am writing to express my heartfelt admiration for your recent commentary on the seriousness of climate change and the inadequate response from global leaders, particularly during COP29. Your words resonated deeply with me, and I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge your exceptional journalism. Your ability to convey the urgency and gravity of the climate crisis is truly commendable. You have a gift for breaking down complex issues into accessible and engaging narratives, making it easier for audiences to understand the stakes. Your passion and conviction are evident in every word, and it's inspiring to see a journalist of your caliber using their platform to raise awareness about this critical issue. I was particularly struck by your critique of the lack of meaningful action from world leaders and the COP29 conference. Your analysis highlighted the stark contrast between the rhetoric and the reality, and the need for more concrete commitments and tangible progress. Your commentary served as a much-needed wake-up call, urging us to demand more from our leaders and to hold them accountable for their actions. Please know that your work is making a difference. Your reporting has the power to educate, inspire, and mobilize people to take action. I am grateful for your dedication to covering this critical issue and for using your platform to amplify the voices of those most affected by climate change. Once again, thank you for your outstanding journalism and for being a vocal advocate for climate action. I look forward to continuing to follow your reporting and to seeing the impact it will have in the years to come

Now developing nations have the technology to create cleaner factories. Instead most of them build the most dirty factories because they are the cheapest. They will not work with Western nations because of their rules and cost, so they instead buy the cheaper products from China. Meanwhile China needs energy and builds more coal power plants than the whole world combined. Now countries like India, Indonesia and Brazil want a piece of the pie, so they compete with China. Now they also ramp up their production factories. We are not even talking about the largest oil manufacturer in the world or the cement industrie, which are some of the planets biggest polluters. India does not need to adopt an expensive Western lifestyle. Instead, it can reconnect with its rural roots, ancient culture, and traditions, which are accessible and meaningful. Urban living, often associated with high costs, can be reconsidered for a more sustainable approach. A shift in lifestyle and attitude is key-it doesn’t require external financial aid. Keeping the environment and surroundings clean should be a matter of self-responsibility, not dependent on external assistance or funding. Why seek aid for what can be managed independently?

Why do we need consensus on the target amount? If India (or any other country) feels that is inadequate, it is free to spend more. In recent months, India has been increasingly impacted by climate change. So why is the Indian government not doing more to reduce fossil fuel consumption, such as mass implementation of solar panels and introduce law to restrict sale of ICE vehicles? In contrast, India's neighbour China has implemented solar farms en-mass with 50% of new cars sold are EVs and has 25 nuclear power plants under construction.
