One thing you missed while talking about Manipur violence is the illegal farming of poppy and the whole state being affected by its trade. There are druglords in Manipur who are mostly illegal immigrants from Myanmar, and the recent violence is a result of the present Biren Singh government's strict crackdown on poppy farmers. The immigrants from Myanmar are culturally more similar to kukis, since both historically came from the same place, and the government is that of a meiti chief minister along with substantial number of meiti MLAs, it has been twisted in the direction of meiti versus kuki. There is also speculation that China provides weapons to these immigrants through Myanmar to disturb the peace in Manipur and other north-eastern states. The meitis and kukis have coexistence together for quite some time. It is the underlying power dynamics of druglords and illegal immigration that has stroked violence in the state and this needs to be talked about more in mainstream media rather than unnecessarily giving it a religious angle to provoke more hate and violence.
