@rally14613 күн бұрын
okay but the difference is that we had a multiple game lead over the bills for the eventual one seed the entire year and ultimately we ended up being in a position to where they could have rested the starters in week 16 and still have the one seed. the lions getting the both the one seed and the division title comes down to week 18 with a team who has been neck and neck with them the entire way. and a revenge game against an eliminated team was pointless. thats hat hes arguing
@kchandaman30123 күн бұрын
@@rally1461 I know, but I think there's something to what Dan Campbell is thinking. I think he's looking to prepare his offense for a shootout against the Vikings, and fortunately for the Lions, while their defense has struggled with injuries, their offense has stayed very healthy in this crucial home stretch. The Lions have also not played as much football over the years as the Chiefs, so I think we definitely need the regular season rest more. I think the Lions should be able to win next weekend and earn that Wild Card bye, which will help their defense.

Because mathematically, the game the Lions just played was absolutely meaningless. The upcoming game against the Vikings would decide the 1st seed, regardless of the outcome of the Lions v 49rs game. Does Nick and others not realize that if the lions lost that game, it allows for the Vikings to win the division if the Lions-Vikings game ends in a tie? Now with the win, the lions can win the division if it ends in a tie. Though a tie is unlikely, the game quite literally was not “meaningless”.

You can be pedantic about the word literally or you can use your brain and realize that the scenario of Minnesota being able to run off the clock during overtime to take the 1 seed is so niche that considering it is pointless compared to considering things like rest and risk of injury.

Nick sounded less competent here. The team isn't more or less likely to be better with rest. There are teams who look like they lost their rhythm after rest. A number 1 seed could get a bye and lose the first playoff game after the bye. All the games mean something. Detroit is THE team that believes that... remember Rogers last game as a packer. Detroit had nothing to play for and still won

Nick seems to think that the best football is played when people are well rested. The obvious counter to that is that we all watch NFL football in weeks one through four and nobody is playing their best football. It’s like passing the wall during a marathon. Teams enter a next level of execution. The NFL should never be resting, healthy players, this isn’t the NBA.

The thing no one is talking about is that the guys they could realistically rest aren't the guys that need it. Gibbs has been splitting time all season, Goff has taken fewer hits than most QB's this season.
