Nick Wright is wondering where he went wrong after his Dallas Mavericks falls to an 0-3 deficit against the Golden State Warriors, despite 40 points from star player Luka Dončić. Nick tells the First Things First crew why he’s regretting underestimating Andrew Wiggins, and whether he believes the Mavs can battle back from 0-3.

Are you even a real analyst? Steph is not putting up like Luka's number 40+ pts because Curry and warriors never care about individual stat padding. They move the ball constantly and with Curry the leader himself never gets tired to move around off the ball then that shows you that the entire team is determined to it as well. In result, curry had moments, thompson had moments, kevon, Wiggins and Poole all had moments every other game. So I am asking you now, is this team a single sport or team sport? Why did you expect Curry should get the points up to your stupid "40 - 60 pts" standard to be considered great? Right now there is non out of all superstar who shares the ball and move off the ball to prioritized team offense, only Curry! That being said, he is greater than all other superstar.

They're comparing him to vintage Steph Curry from the run. And he's not playing as well as that time or even earlier on in the regular season when he got hurt. This is the playoffs though everything slows down and teams have a better shot at focusing in on players so it's understandable. Steph also doesn't have the luxury anymore of Klay attracting so much attention anymore.

The media is having this narrative that Steph hasn’t been the best. Meanwhile he has been the top scorer in EVERY series , even the first round when he was coming off the BENCH. He’s been phenomenal. @THE_BEAR_JEW
@THE_BEAR_JEW 2 жыл бұрын
Cmon man, he was coming off the bench and playing starter minutes. I agree with Steph being great but I do need to stop you there on the "off the bench" comment. He played under 30 minutes in just Games 1 and 2 of the Denver series and he played terribly in one and great in the other. Then he went on to play over 30 or over 35 minutes in the final 3 games of the series. So you're really embellishing the "off the bench" thing. Another thing that's important to note is that he's getting those rebounds because the Mavs aren't hitting anything and they're (aside from Brunson and Luka) settling for deep shots and missing. That leads to Steph just running down balls. It's not like he's jumping in there fighting big men for the ball. Hats off for his 10+ assists in game 3 but the rest you are exaggerating a bit lol.

What? No one is knocking Steph. Steph has been good, not great, by his standards. By average NBA player standards he's been great because he's a great player, but that's not the standard Steph is measured against. Steph is doing what he's expected to do- be great by average NBA player standards. He's not having an all-time series, which would be great by his/superstar standards. The difference has been Wiggins and Looney being better than expected. It's that and the rest of the Mavs outside Luka being bad (which isn't entirely unexpected). Steph is maybe a top 10, definitely a top 15 player all-time. It takes a lot at this point to say Steph is having a great series by his standards because his standards are so high.

Steph’s passes off double teams are extra passed by Daymond. Luka passes come off from last second failed drives to the basket ala westbrook. Where teammates have 2 seconds to throw in a 3. Curry extra pass assists don’t add to your stats. Hence why players also don’t move off the ball like curry, cause they also don’t show. Curry’s defense involves pushing the attacker towards another defender. Curry has been the best player.
@majkibr

Now if you would play attention watching the game, Luka always pull the looks of whole team, and the passes are wide open. And 2 or 3 seconds to make a shot is far enough. You can also see the wide open pass with 10 seconds left on the clock. And for example bullock shot right away. Same is with kleber. And it's not secret that mavs game plan I to drain the clock all the way. They playing like that whole season.

@Shock he's right his waiting til the shot clock is gonna cause a double team by the defense and it doesn't make it a smart play once you consider offensive rebounding is not in their favor unless the three misses and bounces back out and teams no what they're gonna do "Jack up a three." Luka Brunson and Dinwiddie can create their own shot but the rest of the bunch is dependent on someone else to get a bucket. Now I know you aren't watching the games. Him and Brunson are getting the ball to teammates with like 10 seconds left a lot of the time, on both cuts and spot up shots, they're just not hitting the shots. This narrative that Luka is running the clock down to 1 second is just silly. Also you cannot compare him to Westbrook. By doing that, you're truly just hating. Curry makes the extra pass because he needs to. His bread and butter is coming off screens and getting a mismatch. When he has to shoot off the dribble, he tends to wear down fast and become exponentially less efficient due to his small size. It's not that he's being charitable or something, it's just how his game works and the Warriors system. It's just silly to type what you're typing.
